Knicks · Fire Thibs (page 83)

Not a lot of structure on that end. But what’s more disturbing is the defense, which supposed to be his specialty. 🤔
Since this thread is so old you get to see all the other NorCal over reactions from 2022. But I think some responses are still relevant.
Sam was 3 yrs early. I wonder if you ask Sam now after the success Thibs had since 2022, if he would still want to fire Thibs?
What I said back then is how I feel today. Thibs has a cap and FO is racing against JBs prime timeline. With that said it’s a good move. Me personally I would’ve promoted Thibs to a FO position (or offered him that much). But there’s more juice to squeeze out of this offense. That alone is a ceiling Thibs can’t break.

Jeff Teague mentioned on his podcast that Thibs was still using the same plays that he used in Minnesota and Chicago. He said he was using the same post up plays for KAT that he used for Noah and Yaj. If that's true, then yeah, the offense needed a shake up. Scoring seemed to be too hard this season, given the talent on the starting 5. I gave Thibs a bit of a pass because I thought the bench was trash and that fall strictly on the FO. Didn't realize the players were as annoyed as they were tho.

Once Bridges called Thibs out in public we should have known they were frustrated. He is usually a non confrontational guy. mcbride waited until the season was over because he could have been put in Thibs dog house and never get playing time.

Good point
Also we won 50 plus games with the worse starting 5 in the nba. With hart in the lineup, teams was playing 5 on 4 and leaving hart open. Hart came over in a bench role and later became a starter. But I always thought that was a temporary move that became permanent.
By then Thibs was married to that lineup and refused to change it until the ECF. Deuce would’ve been an interesting starter option and would’ve added floor spacing and forced teams to guard all 5 players.
But the writing was on the wall 3 yrs ago. I thought adding more offensive coordinator’s in his coaching staff would’ve helped him.

There it is. This season so far is showing that, albeit Thibs really had his problems, there is something rotten with the core guys.
To me, Mikal and KAT have consistently been part of the issue.
I guess the next info we'll be getting is what does Jalen Brunson's captain status means to this team, because this team needs a shakeup from its leader.

Agree with this statement. Mikal is only averaging 10 pts a game, he’s very mid … but getting paid like he’s a 20 pt a game scorer… his defense has regressed as when I watch the tape he’s very slow and struggles to keep his man in front of him which forces the defense to collapse then we are running with our heads cut off to cover the open 3’s
Kat is less of a need to move on from he’s still a superstar that is under utilized in MB’s system . If you can even call it a system. This team looks completely undisciplined lots of ball watching and no one is really working to get open looks .
We really struggle when OG or Mikel miss open looks that they should be making .
Jordan Clarkson is who he is, and when he’s off he needs to be pulled. Landry is not the answer he’s a fringe rotation player . Playing him 20 plus minutes is silly.
Again I think the biggest issue is the fact we are very undisciplined on both ends of the floor and it’s really starting to show and teams are picking us apart for it .
If there is a Giannis Antetokounmpo deal on the table for Kat, picks you gotta make that move . Also ja morant is at his lowest value and although he’s a idiot he’s still a star when healthy and Memphis is in full rebuild mode we offer OG and Mikel for Ja and Jackson
But at the end of the day, I would imagine if things don’t get better fast Brown is definitely on the hot seat . And that coach Mike Malone is still available.

Don’t be shocked if Rick Brunson or Mo Cheeks are interim head coach by next April. I really hope this is the team just quitting on Mike Brown if not we got problems

Mikal minutes are down 10%. He is avg 16pts per game, a bit lower. His steals and BLocks are up this year. His FT attempts are down. Thats hard to do!
As for OG, he wanted more offense and it was part of the reason he wanted to be paid in Toronto and subsequent why he was traded. His shooting is inconsistent but his defense is still solid. He is paid a lot but also is tasked often with some of the tougher assignments on defense.

You saying April of 2027?
We should fire a coach over 10 game stretch after a very 32 game record of 23-9. YOu can bring in Mike Malone to yell at everyone but that too can have consequences. You have a new coaching staff and you have players who perhaps respond short term but then what?
How did 23-9 happen? Was it a fluke?

That's a great point. I know we are all frustrated and angry but it's only been an 11 game slump and we were 24-9 (we beat the Spurs and won the Cup so that game should count imo). But at the same time, this season is too important to let a slump like this continue for too long so these guys and this coach need to get it together. Otherwise the coach will lose his job and some of these players won't be here. And I'm not talking about Kolek. I'm talking about KAT and Mikal and maybe OG or even Hart! If these guys like playing together, they better squash whatever beef is going on between them or tell Leon they hate Brown and want Thibs back or whatever is causing this.

Here we go with you acting like we won multiple championships with Brown.
When Don Nelson got fired during his first season he was 9 games above .500. Mike Brown is currently 7 games above .500. And Nelson was a more accomplished NBA head coach than Brown. If Brown is not a good fit he’s not a good fit to begin with honestly out of all the guys who were available I was surprised Rose hired this guy.
But yeah I’m sure your new cause celebre Kristaps will fix everything

Its so sad you latch on to such small concepts as your attempts to "Gotcha". Even more sad is I take the bait.
Perhaps Jackson Lamb from "Slow Horses" sums you up best:
"Bringing you up to speed is like trying to explain Norway to a dog"
