He has too many ties within this organization to get fired. But getting out of the 1st round is another feather on Thibs hat. Leon will ride this ship until the wheels fall off.
Thibs and JB are cornerstone pieces.
JB loves... LOVES Thibs. So does Josh. OG just had a career year under Thibs. KAT has been open about how high he hold Thibs. He's just not going anywhere.
The imaginary moving goal posts Knick fans judge coaches on are just that.
Thibs is still checking all the boxes. We likely lose to the Celtics. They are the champs, they are 61 win team and picked to win the east. It will NOT STOP the unrelenting "But Thibs should have done..." posts and "we cant win with this..." and "maybe you are OK with the second round but I want more..."

Agree, last night basically guaranteed 0% chance he gets fired

Thibs shouldn’t be fired—getting to the second round three years in a row is no small feat. That kind of consistency deserves credit.
That said, the rotation issues have been there all three years, and they’ve come back to bite us every time.
Of course Josh loves Thibs—he never comes off the floor. But we can’t ignore the fact we got bailed out late by a generous call and by Brunson’s heroics, against a team missing both Jaden Ivey and Isaiah Stewart. This series shouldn’t have been that close—we were lucky to escape.
All we need is a semblance of an offense. When Brunson was out, OG and Bridges were thriving—so why not build a few sets to keep them involved even when JB’s back? There’s room to find a balance.
And what’s the harm in letting Precious guard Duren for 12–15 minutes? Or throwing Wright on a wing for a few minutes each half? We don’t need to be running guys into the ground again. It’s avoidable.

WE had the 5th highest rated offense This team is not without its flaws. We started the season on paper with the flaws. One can say Detroit has role players but they have a bonafide star in Cade and perhaps Duran who is jut 21 really played in his lane and did a great job. Beasly and Timmy are snipers. Its their job. Dallas went to finals last year with Timmy. He is not a star, but he contributes. Perhaps we have opinon that on paper would should have one more comfortably. Its a valid view, but its not the reality of what happend. Detroit is better than what is on paper. Notice Ron Holland got pulled. Detroit played 8 guys last night also. Tobias Harris "sucks". Yet he gets paid a lot, has for years, and has been on many pretty good teams. He is inconsistent at worst. I could see him as knick on a Thibian team. Defensively he is solid. He is paid 25mm per. Good investment for the season they had. Precious made 6mm. We got our monies worth. So did they.
I might add on paper we should be better. The game is not played on paper.
Thru the game last night we had leads, we had easy buckets, we looked damn good. Then Detroit comes on and it sucks. Happened about every game. Same script. But its not them, its Us or Thibs? Their young guys start making good defensive stops and if the Snipers are on target they are dynamic. Schroeder? A very good back up. Better then Cam Payne? Appears more consistent. Played the obnoxious antagonist role very well also. Not as good as Payne.
Knicks in 6. Brunson was incredible. Enjoy it.
A different coach might do worse than what Thibs did. If you can't imagine this, perhaps its just an emotional reaction to a close series and easy to paint.

I think Thibs was OK this series. Not great but not awful either as some make it out to be. Sometimes we forget the other team and HC wants to win too. There is a reason why our offense looked like shit at times and it was mostly due to the Pistons defense and physicality and our inexperience as a team in this situation. But we scored when we needed and we won the series. It's never going to look perfect.
I did like how Thibs allowed Payne to play the majority of the fourth in game one. I liked how he adjusted the gameplan and got KAT the ball in game two and three. I loved how focused we came out last night to start the game and how poised we were when we lost the lead twice including down 7 with 2 minutes left. We also finally won the third quarter. And I know it's a heavy Iso offense and I don't like it at times either but we have the best scoring PG in the league so it will be a big part of our offense and it should be. And when we needed that big bucket, we DID have a play called. Bridges faked a screen which confused Thompson and that's why Brunson was able to crack his ankles and create space for the game winning 3!

Thibs was TERRIBLE against Detroit, in particular offensively. Great breakdown on how bad he was. We were a superior team and that series could have easily went to Detroit.

What if Celtics sweep? 4 straight blowouts?
I believe we have the talent to win. I don't believe we have the offensive system to win. Since our defense is the weakness, our offense needs to be the strength. Right now we are riding on the individual talents of key players.
I think most people outside of NY expect that to happen. So no, he will get another year. IMO, they need better bench coaches.

and yet it was 4-2
I could have "easily" had that 3 some with Jessica Alba but I chose the safe route

We cannot win, if our offense isn't clicking. We don't play enough defense to make up for it.
On a good note, JB as a playmaker has stepped up.
Mikal's confidence and play on both ends has been up.
OG has been playing his best basketball of his career.
JB is the clutch player of the year.
Thibs not afraid to sit you, if you not hitting (Sham / Payne / Deuce)
Mitch is healthy
Towns has something to prove, and will come out aggressive game 1.
Knicks win game 1 by 4

He must make defensive adjustments for the 3's...if they continue to shoot wide open 3's, I think coaching should be accountable. If they're going to beat us let them do it another way.

That and if our offense continues to be stuck in the mud he's in trouble. Leon gave him a force of an offensive unit and they have looked lost for a long time now, getting by on pure talent alone but rarely performing as more than a sum of their parents and often performing as much less than that.
DLeethal@ 5/5/2025 5:52 PM
I think Thibs is in trouble barring a MAJOR showing against Boston. If Knicks get taken care of like most expect I don't think the DET series is going to help him keep his job. Clock is ticking for Leon, Dolan said on Roomates podcast there are no more major moves to be made. So that tells you his mindset. Doubt Leon would allow another year to go by if he's iffy on Thibs getting us to the next level, nor should he with this team smack in their latter primes.
nychamp@ 5/5/2025 6:16 PM
My feeling is that even with say 3-4 blow out losses and one eeked out close victory, knicks losing in 5, thibs will get one more year with rose trying to add a piece or two for next year. Maybe things would be different with a clear excellent option out there but for me Malone doesn't qualify as such. If spoelstra were available, then that would be different.

You think Rose has Thibs fighting for his job this series? Come on man! No one including Rose is expecting much against the reigning champs.
If Rose was iffy on Thibs he would have replaced prior to making all the recent all in moves.
Knicks still need a bench. Sometimes the small moves make the biggest difference. Aka, IHart, JJart, Divo.

I read Dolans statement as he doesn’t get involved with roster type stuff and thats why he wouldn't he speculate on further trades, thus concluding on no more major trades to be made.
I wouldn’t put too much meaning in any of that, or at least I didn’t.

Feel like I’d maybe agree with you if it wasn’t Boston. Leon would have to had beating the NBA champions or near doing that beginning of season and I doubt that.
No one realistically considered Knicks championship material at beginning of season.

i think one of Thibs problems is that he doesn't know how to coach Towns. I dont think they have a problem with each other, its just that Thibs doesn't know how to get the most out of Towns offensively.

Didn’t KAT just have one of his best offensive years of his career? Thibs is a defensive coach. If you are to make an argument on what Thibs failed to do, I would argue he has not improved KATs defense.

I think Thibs basically lost his job the latter part of the year as this teams offense sputtered back into the type of offense that forced Leon to transform the team to get more offensive weapons. A major showing versus Boston is the only thing that will save it. That’ my opinion. There were rumors that Leon’s number 2 (WWW) wanted to change from Thibs before the extension.
