Knicks · How do the Knicks address the 3pt shooting concerns? (page 1)

Having a core of Brunson, Barrett, and Randle is fine because all of their shooting will eventually get into the range of league average, but they need to be surrounded by more shooting. Reddish’s breakout has been great but he’s no shooter. Mitch obviously doesn’t offer any offense outside of dunks. Knicks tightened bench includes Rose, Quickley, Toppin and Hartenstein and all of them shoot 3s but only Toppin seems to be above league average overall. Getting grimes in there somewhere (replacing Rose in the rotation from time to time) should help. Fournier is one of the better shooters in the league but gives up too much on the other end, which is the same with many of the attainable specialists in the league. Clearly getting a shooter isn’t enough, it has to be a shooter that provides some resistance on the other end of the floor. I keep going back to Myles Turner as an option because he’s a league average 3pt shooter at the center position and I feel like the alternative to having a couple elite shooters is at least having league average shooting at all 5 positions. Knicks being able to play 5 out without losing anything defensively would make a difference. But if not that, we need another option. Internal development may be the only real option. Quickley, Cam, and grimes all have shot in the upper 30s percentage wise from 3pt and Toppin seems to be headed that way. If you can get 4 guys in a 9 man rotation to do that than they can survive and become a league average shooting team in percentage and volume, but at some point they need to start going in. The good news is this team is .500 with the worst 3pt shooting team thus far in the league outside of the lakers, so that’s a positive.

Cam and IQ were coming into the league as 3 point shooters extraordinaire. True, they try to contribute in other ways, but why step away from their forte? EF is also no slouch. I don't think we necessarily lack people with shooting acumen potential. We have them. Maybe the offensive schemes need to generate more open looks for them? So far, it is mostly Obi and Randle that get the good looks from beyond the arc.

have 90 million into 3 starters. they have to shoot better plain and simple.

Move RJ if it’s available

Follow Obi's routine. He's improved a lot!

For who or what and when? Who takes his place to increase shooting?
I get the “Extract that in which is not performing” but who fills the expected role and actually performs?

Nah man. We talking bout three point shooting.
Obi is an Uber athletic PF.
Obi needs to work on strong drives to the basket.
Creating off the dribble.
Post up moves.
Catch and shooting from 15 out.
One dribble pull ups.
Defensive rebounding.
Defensive skills.

Running to corner and yanking up a three should not be his "routine".

Sit RJ until he back healthy. Problem solved. You’re welcome.

this is part of it.

Randle is ok.

RJ and Brunson are the ones that are tough.

I think Brunson is being asked to do too much. And maybe that is why his % is off/weak. That and the dude is small and may not have the power to be a great distance three point shooter.

RJ is struggling mightily!

And it is either because he is struggling with being sick (which of late he is) or the massive pressure of the contract he just signed.

Or he just isn't that good!

He is, unlike Kevin Knox, completely useless!

He counts as a salary if we need to make a deal!

I pitch him- and this might be true- as a great kid that is homesick and not a 'big city lights' young man.

Skilled, and able to perform better than you see know- a change of scenery will unluck his true potential.

And that statement might be true. I love him, but something doesn't seam right with him, and a change of scenery will unluck his full potential.

Need to look no further than the top 3 point shooting teams in the league to find a trend. I haven't looked but I bet that those teams also pass really well and a large number of those 3s come off of passes. So we need a better offensive system to improve our passing ...

What is the offensive game plan? We now have a pg but the ball movement at times looks a lot like last year with dribble dribble then pass to Randle in ISO
