Knicks · Trade Season is Here (page 1)

Looking at the current rotation and where the upgrade opportunities are short of a star coming on the market

Robinson, Randle, Barrett, Grimes and Brunson starting
Hartenstein, Toppin, Quickley and McBride in rotation
Reddish, Fournier and Rose are on the outside looking in

Knicks need shooting without sacrificing the defense. With Grimes and Mitch both healthy, and Quickley and McBride playing the bulk of the guard and wing backup minutes, it seems like the defense could be there consistently finally, but the shooting will not. There aren’t any obvious upgrades to Barrett, Randle or Grimes in the starting lineup. Obviously Brunson is a central player so he’s not even worth mentioning. The center position can be upgraded with a guy like Myles Turner, but he’s an injury prone impending free agent. Still, if Indiana was dead set on going full rebuild, reddish plus hart along with a protected pick we own from another team for Turner would work. It would push Robinson as a backup center and allow each player to not be overused.

If there’s no center trade, the logical best option is to upgrade McBrides role in the rotation with a player who can shoot and defend. Guys like Eric Gordon and Josh Richardson are out there but I don’t think they raise the ceiling of the team. It’s a shame Dejounte Murray came on the market over the early part of the offseason, because he would have been a great option to start in place of Grimes, and have Grimes and Quickley split the guard and wing minutes off the bench. The defense would be insane and the shooting and offense would be better. But where things stand now, we know the Knicks will make a move, with Rose and reddish probably the most likely headed out, but the question is will a move be designed to clear up rotation conflicts, or will it be to make the team better?

KnickDanger @ 12/7/2022 10:54 AM
Gee I wonder whom Knicks fans would like to see traded?

You have to think moves are coming, but thinking this FO is more inclined to do that in the off season. It appears their vision is not so much “win now” (or “win yesterday” as most fans want) but the patient rebuild (again upsetting many). We’ll see.

I think Randle could be on the move eventually , but I would be surprised if it’s during the season. I agree the big moves will likely be made in the offseason, particularly during the draft. I’m just expecting some sort of consolation move sending out a player or players who aren’t viewed as long term pieces. For what it’s worth, I see the safest long term pieces as Brunson, Grimes, Barrett, Toppin and Quickley in that order. Not to say one of them won’t get traded, but I think they are the guys who are planned as part of the future unless the big fish comes on the market.

I'm back to trading Randle and Fournier to LA for Westbrook. I would then waive Westbrook and bank the 47M cap space for next year

SergioNYK @ 12/7/2022 11:32 AM
I'd trade everyone and anyone but Brunson unless we are getting a clear cut better and younger PG.

But Randle, RJ, Obi, Grimes, IQ, everyone should be made available. Gotta improve the talent and fit on this team!!

Chandler @ 12/7/2022 12:32 PM
i don't see any obvious trades of one star for another aka you take our problem and we'll take yours

i would like to see us get a reliable shooter we would actually trust flipping the ball to instead of putting our fate in the hands of RJ or Randle so much

D.Robinson, Bertans or some other quasi Steve Novak type. if we can get a guy who can play some D too all the better.

In theory E.Fournier can be that guy but his D has been so bad, and his shot has been unreliable this year

Yeah, but Bertans and Robinson have the same flaws as Fournier. That's the problem with Steve Novak types. Better of just plugging Grimes and hoping he regains his stroke.

i just mentioned in another thread Grimes is my number one hope. Man if he could just start nailing his shots it would be such a huge pressure relief valve.

i agree re same flaws as EF but somehow i think especially a guy like Robinson might get it going with the change of scenery. He was hitting his shots flying off of screens. We're not getting that from SF spot that's for sure.

who knows it might even be Svi

Yes Grimes getting his shooting figured out solves a lot of problems for this team.

I don’t get this. We are way to committed to RJ playing 35+ minutes every night. Cam needs to play so maybe somewhere else, just don’t trade him for a can of chunky soup.

The real problem with this team is we are .500 at best and we have a real salary cap problem if we want to add a FA, not Cam’s playing time. This FO is on its ninth life we me. Trading guys like Cam or IQ for future cap room or to move a bad contract like Fournier is my last bit of patience with this crew. What about moving Obi? Oh, he’s CAA and repped by Rose’s son. I hope this is all bullshit rumor

Knixkik @ 12/7/2022 3:03 PM
We see these rumors but I think we have learned very few have any real sources within the Knicks org so I don’t believe much these days.

And we get mad when things don't happen as if we asleep at the wheel.
Im ok with Cam leaving for little. We tried. THe pick was not conveyed and the kid is not really panning out.
cut bait and move on if need be.

What would 47mil buy us next year in free agency?

More Depth. I like Trent. But im going with Grimes for now.
Grant? Im still on the RJ train. Grant got 6 years on RJ. If you think RJ is a finished product at age 22, thats your opinion.
Grant might be better at this moment. But Im looking ahead.

I have to agree, if we attach one of our promising youth players just to unload Fournier contract, Dolan needs to step in and fire this front office.

Seems like a bogus rumor if you ask me they’d have to be real stupid to make a move like that.

TheGame @ 12/7/2022 5:44 PM
Rose, Reddish, EF, Hartenstein, Toppin, and Quickley are the only guys they might move. For some reason this FO loves Randle and they just signed Brunson. RJ is probably untradeable right now until he brings his value back up. I don’t think that the FO would add the asset needed to trade EF unless it is only a second round pick. I think Rose is gone for sure so they can give McBride minutes and Rose is good enough to bring back at least a second round pick. I think the team should keep Quickley but if they get an offer for mid-1st round pick then they probably will seriously consider trading him. The same with Toppin.

I assumed you were clearing Randle also to get 47mm of FA dollars.

Both are good players especially grant. But didn’t Trent just lose his starting spot? Anyways grant as a Randle replacement would be ideal because he’s a better shooter and defender and more versatile. But he’s found a great fit in Portland and he’s probably not the player you break the bank for.

gradyandrew @ 12/8/2022 4:29 AM
Fournier Rose and Reddish add up to a lot of salary. Maybe Terry Rozier? I think that New York would have to throw in some draft picks but if I'm Charlotte I just go all in with the tank.
