Imma have to give this one a thumbs 👎.
https://empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-k...Russell was Gersson Rosas’s biggest coup during his ill-fated stint as Timberwolves president. Now that Rossas is with the Knicks as a team consultant, will he go after Russell to make up for the foiled Donovan Mitchell trade?

That is a interesting theory… I like it

Who would start at PG?
Russell is absolutely better suited as a 6th man today, so he would have to replace IQ or Deuce in that role if that were ever a player we acquired. I don’t see what he accomplishes though.
I'm happy with our collection of PGs. It's RJ that needs some upgrade as far as shooting.

His shot diet is too inconsistent to rely on as a starter. I know he can get hot. I remember how he led the NJ Nets(yeah, I refuse to acknowledge them as a representation of anything NY). But he doesn't really push the pace or get to the rim or play defense. Is he really that big of an upgrade over Fournier?
SergioNYK wrote:Why would Toronto trade OG? I would think he'd be the one to keep next to Barnes. I think Siakim and FVV would be first to go if they decide to rebuild.
Yeah, I tend to agree with this. I think the OG ship has sailed.
On record, I would veto any Kuzma trade. Another volume guy. Money stats on a bad team. I don't really see any deeper advanced stats to show true value. Just another usage shooter that isn't that great at it despite a few high scoring games. Doesn't make us better, imo. As a consolidation play, it might make sense as as a backup to Randle. Not really willing to do much more than consolidate unused players though.
I like to peruse the per36 columns of the Hustle Stats when looking for possible trade value.

The fact that Tari Eason up there is impressive but not unexpected. Feel like we dropped the ball on that guy.
Would look at Javonte Green tonight. Can't say I have seen much. Chicago can't really tank since Orlando owns their pick (1-4 protected).
Jordan Goodwin, Darius Bazley are also guys I would watch. Their FT% draws the 3pt percentage into question, but they are getting out to the perimeter to contest threes.
I wouldnt give up much for these guys, but I think the deflections and contested threes are a good sign of the players we should be looking at.
I’ll say this: if the Knicks made a deal for Washington at the deadline and Washington was working to retool, a deal that makes a lot of sense is Toppin, Reddish and Washingtons pick back for Kuzma. But the Knicks would have to be sure they can resign Kuzma and he would be happy with whatever role is planned. Maybe a super 6th man with the starting lineup currently clicking?
Also one thing to note; rose used to represent Kuzma.

Maybe. But problem is that Knicks would be paying $30M for a sixth man.

Man you like to give 1st round picks away in trades for players that will be UFA, smart teams just don’t take those types of risks

Deal is in its last year, so wouldn't be a bad thing. Unless they signed him to another 3yr/$75M deal. I don't think they would, but I'd rather eliminate the temptation altogether.

I wouldn’t do it if it were a risk. There would have to be a deal In place. Again this is Leon Rose's client.
Ug. Why would Minnesota make that trade? Are we planning on sending out draft picks?
Which stars are available and which ones would you trade for?
I think the two best targets are Anthony Davis and Jimmy Butler. I don't think Davis gets moved because he's playing at such a high level, but maybe Miami pivots away from Butler's timeline. I think a squad of Jimmy JB and Randle gets New York pretty close to contention over the next 3 seasons.

I don't think DLo valuation is that high to be honest. They can just let him go in FA, but who knows. They could just keep him and re-sign to a smaller deal. He's supposedly tight with KAT, so that might factor into their decision making.

I think his contract is viewed pretty negatively right now.

Even then he comes in and does what? Push RJ or Grimes to the bench or usurp IQ as the first guard off the bench? Are either of those choices a clear upgrade? Knicks should be looking to move a starter (Grimes/ RJ/ Mitch) and get back a higher level starter.
The same goes for IQ, if we trade him we would just be looking for a sixth man (hello Russell Westbrook?).
Drussell expires after this season? If so, its a dump for use and might help Wolves this and next year.
They seem to be getting it together.
Trades don’t always solve fit issues and teams need time to get its chemistry right.

I don’t want any part of Davis. He’s fools gold. He will be constantly injured here

That D-Lo trade has some merit for a couple of reasons.
D-Lo ar $31M sounds bad but we are dumping 2 years of Fournier. From Minny perspective the ball is in Ants hands quite a bit but Rose could be nice vet add. Fournier brings shooting and Cam intrigue. That said - not sure Rose/Cam would be enough for Minny to bite on Fournier.
From Knick perspective - D-Lo could definitely be great. Back-up point but also he’d be a nice fit pushing Q off the ball more and D-Lo could also play some with Brunson or reduce Brunson mins a bit.
Brunson
grimes
RJ
Julius
Mitch
DLo
IQ/Deuce
Obi
Hart
Simms
For taking on Fournier Minny might want IQ.

If the trade is not with RJ, then it makes no sense. You cannot trade for Kuzma just to have him play behind RJ and Randle. Articles say that Kuzma is actually a solid defender and he has the size of a true SF. RJ is undersized for a SF. We can debate whether Kyle Kuzma is a better player than RJ; however, there can be no question that RJ starts every season in a slump. This is the third season that has occurred and it makes me start to wonder whether we are better off with Kyle Kuzma at SF as opposed to having to continue dealing with RJs’ helter skelter game. But I only do this deal if it is for RJ because I’m not paying Kuzma 20+ million dollars to be a bench player. RJ has played better the last two or three games, and if history follows form then he’ll keep getting better until the end of the season. However does that mean he’s going to start next season sucking again? That’s the real question.
