Knicks · [Game Thread] Knicks at Bulls 7:30PM (page 10)

F the Bulls. F the refs too. Some of the calls at the end of the game just to keep it close oh my Gawd
Nalod @ 12/15/2022 7:36 AM
JB looked a bit banged up by games end.
Most last plays don’t convert. Kobe was the best @ 33% convert rate.
BUlls went iso with Derozen. Crunch time rarely see the ball flow good.
When one complains, then complains on the obvious its annoying. It was a shitty execution of the last play.
Was it Thibs “Fault”, or Randle misread?

Other thoughts: Randle gets to the line a lot. Refs are not against him. Did not love the Ticky tack calls Derozen got.
Cruncb time win on the road vs. good team who is not performing up to potential. That was a quality road win.
Im sure Bull fans calling for Billy’s head too?
Keep Zach away from us.

ESPN broadcast was complimentary on Knicks. I think Doris Burke does state the obvious at times but does a good job mostly.
RJ taking better 3’s and its working.
Perry was right about Derozen.
Trading RJ for him is silly given age gap.
White guys with headband look silly. Caruso.
You Deuce fanboys are funny. You talk about him when you not. LOL.
Sims footwork on defense is a career changer for him. Its keeping him in the league.
I don’t know where knicks are going but they are fun to watch. Unless your whining!

We could develop youth even more and still be fun to watch. I mean, I still enjoy watching the Magic. And if it results in a top 5 pick, then everyone wins

Thibs said he was happy with Randles shot??? hopefully this is just for public sake and in the future they change how it goes down. The ball should have been in Brunsons hand. One of the ugliest shot sequence I have ever seen.
"Tom Thibodeau didn’t regret the final shot of regulation. In fact, he was happy with the shot despite Julius Randle’s baseline fadeaway failing to hit iron."

I love our fans... Jules gets 31/13/7 on 19 FGAs and plays 40 plus minutes, dude played so hard and misses one ISO at the end of the game and its

this offense is trash
I cant believe this coach player
I know he "played well" but I would still trade him

I shouldnt want to see Randle traded after putting up numbers like he just did. But I do. Still closes games like he's throwing them. WTF was holding the ball for the entire shot clock, and going one on 3 to close regulation?

This is the kind of stuff that will kill a playoff run. And Randle does it way too much.

You must not have watched the game. Williams was the only one on him for last shot. I do agree that there should have been much less Iso. But you are assuming it did not come from the coach. That has been a common fan complaint at the end of games for the last 30 years. So not sure why you are blaming Randle specifically. Imo, JB needs to be the one creating at end of games.

Randle did have the two pass outs that led to Grimes big threes in im overtime. He also broke up the out of bounds pass to Williams in final play. So there is that.

Randle had three defenders nearby, when he took the shot. One in front of him, and two closing in. Still couldnt find an open man.

And spare me the "common fan" horseshit.

No bullshit to spare. Wrote "common fan complaint". You taking it like I'm saying you a common fan.

You claim that Im commenting on a game, I didnt watch, and Im making a "common fan complaint". Id say you have plenty of bullshit to spare.

Telling a player to hold for the last shot. Isnt the same thing as a player attempting a last second shot, in the least competitive way possible. Did Thibs tell him to run out the clock like that? Of course not.

Randle does not close out games well. He's our best scoring option. Thats not a recipe for success.

You said there were three players on him. Not true. You are either exaggerating to suit your narrative or didn't watch the game. Then you back track and say they were "near" him.

Common fan have complaint for the last thirty years on "why coaches don't call a better play instead of iso" Exactly what your whining about. And how do you know what the coach told him? Obvious players were spreading the floor and he was going on 8. A common move for a last second play in a tie. But you been watching.

And you crying bout a last shot even though we won? Why?

Listen to yourself. I didnt see the last seconds of the game play out like you did. So I didnt watch the game. I wanted a better run play, whatever it was. And some how Ive made a common fan mistake that you are immune from.

Now Im whining and crying over a game, because I point out that Randle doesnt close out games well.

This is the kind of discourse I try to avoid. You have criticized others for acting like we know more than NBA coaches, or players. For just commenting. Yet it doesnt stop you from often doing the same.

Whatever the play was. ISO, PnR, the freaking icky shuffle. I wanted to see Randle run it better that. Sorry if you have a problem with my expressing a "common fan complaint". So special.

You mean you avoid Discourse where you get called out?
"WTF was holding the ball for the entire shot clock, and going one on 3 to close regulation?

That's what you said and I responded as crying. Not a basic call for a better play. You are the one that took offense to being part of common fan. Which is what you are. Unless you consider yourself an expert?

But just to show what non common fan minds take into account, as I was trying to explain, here are some quotes from an experienced former COY regarding what we are discussing:

https://nypost.com/2022/12/15/tom-thibod...

The thing is, if you bring a second guy over, they can trap, they also had a foul to give,”
The Knicks’ coach added: “Get to your spot, take your shot and Julius did that. It’s a good look on that side.”
"He’s been on a great run, all the way around,” Thibodeau said of Randle, who had 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. “He made so many good plays for us throughout the course of the game, and then to read that play [at the end regulation], which he did, and to put it on the line, that’s a big part of guys sacrificing for the team. There’s no stat for that.”

Sound familiar?

its pretty clear there's some folks here who know basketball better than Thibs. You are just gonna have to work with that. Those are just quotes from an outdated old man stuck in his ways.

Kinda hoping we have another great turnaround just so Thibs can win another COY. Just for the suffering it will cause

Chandler @ 12/15/2022 8:43 AM

I forget the name of last nights play by play guy but he was 10x better than Doris Burkes typical sidekick Mark Jone ( who honestly has the potential to be good if he just dials things down a lot)

Loved the notion that Perkins showed some love in the studio and without naming names told Jefferson to stop being a hater. Jefferson should be tossed. He adds no insight and nothing entertaining.

Fans should stop complaining about less than perfect wins. If you expect perfection you’ll always be disappointed. We should be thankful we gutted out a few extra possessions to come out on top.

Personally it's always sweet to beat the team that tormented my childhood! But 5th win in a row!

Hats off to Brunson! Without a doubt the best Knicks FA signing since...Allan Houston in 96? He's been outstanding! And he's such a warrior! In a walking boot just a few days ago at the Knicks holiday party with his gorgeous fiance and is listed a game time decision going into this this game. He not only plays but drop 30 points including some clutch shots and a CLEAN (no hand pushing!) highlight crossover on Caruso! I freaking LOVE Brunson!!!

Randle started the game strong once again (15 points in the 1st). I really like how he's coming out aggressive and confident. He had some dumb turnovers and I despise it when he isolates at the top of the key and holds the ball but overall cannot hate on 32/13/7. RJ also had a nice game with 22/6 and defended DeRozan well for the most part but the zebras were treating him he was MJ with the late touch fouls. Robinson was also strong with 6 offensive rebounds and stopped Vucevic when it counted! Grimes with clutch threes! And Deuce continues to defend well and is starting to get some threes to fall!

BTW, LaVine does not look normal. He's definitely lost a step with that knee injury. Leon and co. really need to do their homework if he's an option.

this is a waste of time. Sorry you didnt enjoy the win or the great season Randle's having. He's playing great and has been nothing but a great teammate and you missed it all cause he killed your cat. Smoke something and sit back and let go... dude's prolly gonna be here for a while, and that's OK cause he's good player on a good contract.

5 in a row isn’t luck. Team is playing legit more. I still seek perfection, but that’s cause I’m in my living room while these men are bleeding on the court. I’m good with what is happening even if I think their ceiling is higher.

For whatever reason, for me, if the Knicks win the next game against Chicago again, that’ll be Uber significant for team

New schedule with back to back aways against the same team is just kind of weird. Yeah, you can cut out travel time, but are you really creating parity over the course of a season? Feel like the NBA lacks a basic logistics algorithm to plan games. Should be able to get 82 games into the schedule while minimizing travel time and back to backs. Simple circuit play would achieve this.

That said, putting Chicago down for 2 while away should break their spirit. Without a pick I don’t see them tanking, but they certainly will have to mix it up.

I love it. Think of it from a different perspective and IMO it's a win-win for the NBA FO and the teams: Less travel AND hopefully some rival teams get heated up in division battles. I miss the old days of Knicks-Celtics and whatever else rivalries got established.

If the NBA can schedule more stuff like Chi-NY - teams that are similar in record and located in proximity of each other - the better for overall marketing etc.

Problem is more that you can't get over the fact that teams do cycle contracts and players and picks, it's literally the nature of the beast. Go check out how many bad contracts are on a team like Miami right now. Or how GS used the #2 pick on a high level GLeague talent. Or how Brooklyn manages their super stars. Or how OKC traded Harden just before he exploded and let Durant walk. Or how the Celtics let Al Horford walk AND traded away Desomnd Bane just to get out of a 1 year $5M Enes Freedom Kanter. And what the fuckery is the Lakers Westbrook trade? You think SAS handled Primo well?

I could go on all day for pretty much all teams.

Knicks mistakes are so bad they are able to trade them away using 2nd round picks? Let that settle in for you. You don't want the Knicks taking calculated risks like the Cam trade? The opposite it even worse IMHO.

There has got to be some better barometer than just what you are staying.

It's silly talk after that.

But you do notice all the REALLY nice cuts he makes?

You never know how will be on the team but for right now, the team focusing on RJ and Randle and the PnR they got going with some other side actions for others is a solid step for me.

It does leave out opportunities for the likes of Grimes and Hart and others but I think we will see them evolve that way over the next year. Knicks got some slow learners on their team - RJ, Randle, Mitch - and you gotta do simple stuff first.

But you are right. Grimes gonna get his soon.
