He’s showing more athleticism than I picked up pre-draft. Big hops. At 6’4, I worry about his ability to guard larger SG/SF. Not to the extent that I am “down” on him, just curious how he handles them. He feels Klay like though.

I shouldnt want to see Randle traded after putting up numbers like he just did. But I do. Still closes games like he's throwing them. WTF was holding the ball for the entire shot clock, and going one on 3 to close regulation?

This is the kind of stuff that will kill a playoff run. And Randle does it way too much.

You must not have watched the game. Williams was the only one on him for last shot. I do agree that there should have been much less Iso. But you are assuming it did not come from the coach. That has been a common fan complaint at the end of games for the last 30 years. So not sure why you are blaming Randle specifically. Imo, JB needs to be the one creating at end of games.

Randle did have the two pass outs that led to Grimes big threes in im overtime. He also broke up the out of bounds pass to Williams in final play. So there is that.

Randle had three defenders nearby, when he took the shot. One in front of him, and two closing in. Still couldnt find an open man.

And spare me the "common fan" horseshit.

No bullshit to spare. Wrote "common fan complaint". You taking it like I'm saying you a common fan.

You claim that Im commenting on a game, I didnt watch, and Im making a "common fan complaint". Id say you have plenty of bullshit to spare.

Telling a player to hold for the last shot. Isnt the same thing as a player attempting a last second shot, in the least competitive way possible. Did Thibs tell him to run out the clock like that? Of course not.

Randle does not close out games well. He's our best scoring option. Thats not a recipe for success.

BRIGGS @ 12/14/2022 11:14 PM
Great enjoyable game

Not exactly fair we have to play another away games against the same team.

How about grimes?

The avenue to improve is on unit 2. They’ve played well but it’s not sustainable and well run the starters into the ground.

You said there were three players on him. Not true. You are either exaggerating to suit your narrative or didn't watch the game. Then you back track and say they were "near" him.

Common fan have complaint for the last thirty years on "why coaches don't call a better play instead of iso" Exactly what your whining about. And how do you know what the coach told him? Obvious players were spreading the floor and he was going on 8. A common move for a last second play in a tie. But you been watching.

Randle 31/13/7
JB 30/7
RJ 22 and 57% from 3pt

I don’t know if Thibs said “Randle do iso 10 times in a row including a 24 second violation to end the regulation” or Randle just chose to do it but I’m still fire Thibs and trade Randle.

It was a good win but it doesn’t change how I feel about those two. We’ve seen this before and we’ve seen the wheels fall off of this before too.

Would you say that you have seen it since 1980's?
It's called the NBA. I do hate the iso play but that is what this league is. Maybe do what I do which is watch college basketball for enjoyment and Knicks to break TVs.

That’s lazy. We demand more. Ball movement. Motion. Iso died with Kobe.

Not true. Watch a lot of basketball. Watch any NBA game that is tied in last three minutes and teams typically go to iso with their best player. Bulls did that as well with DeRozan.

Can’t put Bulls forward as a model of success. Barrett’s emergence is literally tied to his defense on Derozan in iso ball. The initiation of offense in one one one play resulting in contested mid ranged shots is now just bad math.

You are missing my point. Not arguing it is what we or any team should do. Not that it is what I want to watch. Just that it is quite common in the NBA.

Fair point, but that doesn’t validate it. We can demand more. Dribbling into triple coverage should be a no no.

Absolutely. Has to make better post catch reads. Reason why those pass outs barely got through. He also walked on the last one but was lucky not to get it called.

Listen to yourself. I didnt see the last seconds of the game play out like you did. So I didnt watch the game. I wanted a better run play, whatever it was. And some how Ive made a common fan mistake that you are immune from.

Now Im whining and crying over a game, because I point out that Randle doesnt close out games well.

This is the kind of discourse I try to avoid. You have criticized others for acting like we know more than NBA coaches, or players. For just commenting. Yet it doesnt stop you from often doing the same.

Whatever the play was. ISO, PnR, the freaking icky shuffle. I wanted to see Randle run it better that. Sorry if you have a problem with my expressing a "common fan complaint". So special.

New schedule with back to back aways against the same team is just kind of weird. Yeah, you can cut out travel time, but are you really creating parity over the course of a season? Feel like the NBA lacks a basic logistics algorithm to plan games. Should be able to get 82 games into the schedule while minimizing travel time and back to backs. Simple circuit play would achieve this.

That said, putting Chicago down for 2 while away should break their spirit. Without a pick I don’t see them tanking, but they certainly will have to mix it up.

MS @ 12/15/2022 12:11 AM
Team is solid.

Problem is we signed Noel, Fournier Burks, Rose, Kemba traded a First for Cam, then traded a first to unload a contract and now have everyone of those player out of the rotation and are short two first rounders. That is scary on one offseason.

Happy we are playing well, but front office has some explaining to do

That fade away from the baseline is one of Randle's spots that he likes to shoot from. He hit plenty of clutch baskets from there in 20-21. It's not a great shot but one Randle likes so you live with it. He didn't want to leave anytime for Chicago to take a 3.

On a related issue, I thought the JB Randle two man game looked real strong. I'm not sure what the problem with Randle going 1 on 3 is if he's passing out to open 3 point shooters. I think that's good offense, him drawing attention. So sad to see RJ go, but it just seems having IQ out there is the Knicks best lineup- JB IQ Grimes Randle Robinson.
Division play would be 100 times more interesting if it was done in home and home matchups or even better a whole tournament. I don't think a mid season cash cup would ever catch on but divisional cups and crowns might.

Clean @ 12/15/2022 4:16 AM
OK, I am watching the OT and at the 2 minute minute mark Brunson drives and then posts Caruso. Then Randle comes to pick Brunsons man mid post. The Bulls switch everything so now when they switch Randle has great position and gets fouled. This is what I mean when I say disguise the ISO or run movement to catch the other team off guard. I can live with this type of ISO rather than the one we usually run. Some weakside movement would not have hurt but it was not even needed here because they disguised it so well.

Grimes is better than bullock. And we made it to the 4th seed then. This team has a better bullock and a better PG. Plus the east has a lot of parity this year similar to years in the past.

But Grimes has that catch and shoot badge on HOF with a gold clutch badge, for my 2k fans.

We are still rough around the edges:

1. Randle needs to work on his 1on1 moves and 1on3 passes. Because he’s more comfortable with his back to the basket whenever he had a small guy on him, it’s going to be hard to see those doubles come. Needs to have quicker moves in his bag and see the double coming a lot quicker. Those jump passes Randle makes are very very shaky. But overall rock star game from the entire team, with room for improvement.

And it’s not hating, if someone points out what I player needs to work on.

Plus this is an open forum. If you want to police the posters in an open forum, contact Martin for a job. Otherwise shut up, leave fans alone and comment on the game. No need to mention names, you know who you are.

Great game. Loving this rotation and the chemistry they are building. Good Randle can take us far. Meanwhile Grimes is turning into an all star caliber player eventually. He’s just getting started.

That Charlotte first ain't conveying and the Knicks did get a first back, although one that will likely be worse. I wouldn't say they are short two first rounders. I would say it makes you question what their long-term vision is outside of waiting for the next available disgruntled star.

I'd definitely like to see more curls and pin downs installed for Grimes. I'm not saying they need to crazy, but it's an aspect of the offense that's missing and I'm confident Grimes can do more than stand in a corner and hope that he gets notices.
