The Mavs did everything in their power to lose in the 4th. Everyone who could make a shot was on the bench and the players that played were all short. No center or power forward. Once the real tank lineup came in they had a lead and the Bulls went on something like a 20 - 4 run instantly.

Kidd being very open during interviews about tanking will now bite them in the butts. It would be funny if the NBA unprotected that pick and the Mavs move up in the lotto. Karma would be so sweet.

All the years some Knicks fans wanted the tank it seemed to me they often did not perceive what was a tank and what was throwing games. This seems awfully close to the latter, which one might deem illegal. We shall see.

Can we reasonably expect anything besides a moderate fine here ?

Probably not, but you never know. This is exactly the type of perfect storm that is ripe for a team to be made an example of. They had a chance to make the playoffs and intentionally tried everything in their power to not maximize that chance. Real bad look, especially now with the gambling aspects of sports being somewhat maximized. Any look of a team throwing a game us bad.

The Mavs did so much wrong here I forgot about them tanking even though they had a realistic shot of making the playoffs. They had 2 winnable games and the Thunder could easily lose to the Grizz B team. The Grizz are known for winning despite injuries to their top guys.

I wonder if the owner placed bets as well. Can the NBA investigate that ?
PassTheBall @ 4/8/2023 5:18 PM
I hope Dallas is penalized for this, it’s clear that they threw the game and the play-in to keep the pick. Let’s see how comfy Cuban is with Silver.
BRIGGS @ 4/8/2023 5:49 PM
If I was Knicks owner and management I’d put in a grievance to convey pick 10 to us for purposely sacrificing a game that mattered. They OWE us and they knowingly try to circumvent payment.

It’s a perfect penalty. It’s also fair
Force the pick to convey

This sounds acceptable. I would have them throw in a second rounder as well. And Cuban has to wear a Rick Brunson jersey when we play in Dallas.

You have to click on each individual picture to read the rules.

People are criticizing the investigation saying the NBA should investigate all the teams trying to tank resting players that started weeks ago. Maybe the NBA should.

But its the way Cuban is doing it, it looks malicious and targeting. His impromptu presscon airing his true feelings about jalens defection. Then Kidds presscon about sitting multiple players in a critical game that can help them enter the play-in, it all seems obvious to send a message to the knicks.

I could actually see this though could open can of worms NBA never wants to deal with.

Maybe it's log over due if they want to stop tanking

Didn’t read the above before prior post but would Silver really have the nuts - that would be funny.

Jimbo5 @ 4/8/2023 9:32 PM
I know it wont happen but taking out the protection of the Dallas pick and awarding it to the knicks is a message that might just stop future tanking dead on its tracks. If its within the powers of Silver to do it.

Under this provision, the Commissioner has the power to give the Knicks the pick. He should do so. What happened Friday was the most blatant throwing of a game as I have ever seen. They actually purposefully sat Luka, after starting him, just to not win the game because they knew Luka was not going to have any part of playing not to win. They had Theo Pinson shooting game winning shots (twice). Teams tank all the time but the league has never seen a team tank when that team actually had a shot to make the playoffs. I don’t think that has ever occurred, and I think the league is going to have to punish Dallas for that.

KnickDanger @ 4/8/2023 11:38 PM
I can’t imagine Cuban’s arrogance won’t get some push back. Not expecting the Knicks to get an unprotected pick, but something will happen I bet. Of course what is a big fine to Cuban?
gradyandrew @ 4/9/2023 1:07 AM
Kidd saying it was a management decision by Nico Harrisburg and Mark Cuban makes it very different from other teams shutting players down for health related reasons. You can't question in game management but the owner deciding who plays and who doesn't is an extremely bad look for the league. There will be a big penalty. Silver is a lawyer and any good one knows "reasonable doubt" gets a not guilty verdict every time. There was no reasonable doubt yesterday. Dallas was actually bragging about it.
TPercy @ 4/9/2023 1:10 AM
Cuban has got some balls I tell you. Would be great for the league if they get sanctioned for what they did. It’s one thing if they decide to shut down earlier, but you can’t willingly decide to throw it with a playoff game on the line. Usually when a team tanks they just play their worst players, but it seems like even people who played really well got sat. Luka could play, but didn’t play.

The Mavs snitched on us re: tampering and Brunson and we lost a second rounder, despite every team tampering, because it was so blatant. How would this be any different? it would be a fittingly ironic end to the season if Dallas got investigated for something many teams do, yet ended up having to give us their 1st!

franco12 @ 4/9/2023 5:17 AM
What might be fair, is Silver take away the option of the pick conveying as a second rounder, and give the Mavs the option to convey it this year if they preferred.
