They are fighting with Houston for lottery positioning, so probably. And Detroit plays Chicago and Detroit doesn’t need to try to lose because their top odds are already locked in.

I have a question:

The Mavs were fined $600,000 in the past for admitting to tank... I feel like yanking everyone by the start of the second quarter against the Bulls is the same thing... so my question is it is possible that the NBA could force the pick to convey? Could the Knicks protest the results of last night's game? Because they should, after the ongoing JB bitch fest

SergioNYK @ 4/8/2023 9:33 AM
I'm upset that bum Ntilikina couldn't do us a favor and play well for once!

Hopefully their pick ends up as another Frank.

MS @ 4/8/2023 10:13 AM
Cuban takes a big hit here.

Complaining about Jalen Brunson and his parents was some childish bitch move. Showing text messages, come on that’s embarrassing. You didn’t pay the man, prioritize him so he left. I’m sure they could have done the same thing as the Knicks to secure his future.

Honestly you trade for Kyrie and don’t look at his resume as one of the most overhyped team killers of all time you deserve what you get.

Mavs let Brunson walk, signed McGee for a full mid level, traded a draft pick, useful scorer and their best defender for a guy that just quit on his 3rd straight team.

Franchise is trash now. Hopefully they don’t get rewarded in the draft. That would have been a great chance to draft a 3D youth to stash for the future.

I don't know that they could force the pick to convey to the Knicks, but the league would have the power to forfeit the pick entirely. I half heatedly threw that out there, but that'd probably be extreme.

I expect fines.

I also expect Dallas did more damage to themselves, their reputation, and their trust from their franchise player than the number 10 pick can repair.

And just like that, the value of the 3 protected 1st Rd picks we own this season = 0. I wonder if Vegas will have an over/under on Doncic’s weight for next season?

Most protected pics convey but your point is taken. I think the Milwaukee and Dallas picks will convey the Detroit and DC picks might not. But still valuable to trade for a player like Josh Hart. I think we may then decide to extend IQ and Obi. Then Grimes and Deuce. We use out pics when we have him.

I hope there isn't a lot of whining if the Mavs pick doesn't convey this year which it probably won't. Still have two more shots, but even if it doesn't I think we should view the KP trade as the big win it is regardless. You can look it up.
rpknicks @ 4/8/2023 1:26 PM
It's been fun watching this dallas pick this year even as it looks like the fun is almost over. Getting the pick at all, probably in the high teens or low 20's is about what the knicks would have expected, even when the KP trade was made. Recall all the flak the knicks got at that time...not only losing our young budding star player in a very F you kind of way, like it's back to the drawing board for you poor knicks fans , and here's a couple of future late 1st rounders and Dennis smith to make the numbers work. Yikes. Cuban gloated. His gleaming white implants seemed to sparkle as if he'd struck gold again. Tanked and rebuilt on the fly with another euro... and that was the same year, with the money we had reserved for KP and some free agent in waiting who never came, we collected like 3 power forwards in free agency ( morris, randle, porter) and seemed to be like a flock of leaderless pigeons flying around in circles for much of the season.

Time passed. Randle got better. RJ was drafted. Morris, the best of the PF triplets was dealt for a pick that turned into...Quickley. Hey not only is there is life after the KP trade, it is actually because of the trade that we start to have the makings of the team we are today.

Then when that first dallas pick conveyed, a couple of years back and that was turned into Grimes, you started to see that a clear pattern had emerged. If you were to draw it on an dashboard, the line that began at the KP trade was was trending up, event by event. Even without the data points, if you listened and watched these players growing, there was undeniably some good vibes coming and for fans who had been following this drama from day 1..that a wrong was being righted.

Then KP turned out to be an expensive disappointment that dallas eventually had to admit to and fold that timeline. Still the trade seemed like a draw as good ole' dinwiddie was a better fit and they actually made it to the finals as we regressed when randle went rogue. But their run revealed brunson as a real player, not just a sidekick; and dallas having overplayed their hand, because cuban is such a conceited dickhead, suddenly, there was an opening...which the knicks kicked wide open when the summer of '22 came.

The brunson caper was actually pulled off. Did we tamper? Sure. But it was not a garden variety Pat riley backroom deal. We actually hired JB's dad a few months before free agency season but the dots were connected long before that. It was as old as the godfather, literally. That hiring was just the insurance policy. And yet still after paying 100m, most of the nba still cackled at what looked like a desperate overpay only to be stifled almost immediately once this season rolled around and JB started dropping 25 a night. But more than that, he transformed the knicks into something we had not been up to that time: a team with an identity. Yes we have lost and found it at times this season but there is no doubt about it that the knicks blueprint is officially sound and we just have to keep building on it.

That dallas is connected with randle, quickley, grimes and brunson is a key part of this story which by now was starting to flow like a kill bill revenge theme. And going into this season, there was only one last samurai sword to collect.

That battle started as expected with dallas staking a claim for being one of the better western conference teams but then they magically started stumbling, like someone had put some sort of spell on them. Did cuban trade that 60 point luca miracle comeback against the knicks for some unknown future?

We started to dream as the pick crawled downwards with every mavericks choke, they crept towards .500 but still remained well within the playoffs.

And then the deal with the devil was made, or perhaps the devil finally visited cuban one night and told him his bill was due. Dallas entered the void where cleveland, boston, brooklyn were lucky to escape from. Could all this somehow be traced to flat-earthers? Is kryie really an illuminati?

Ok time to find out---> in true conspiracy story fashion, Dallas proceeded to lose 2 out of every 3 games with the illuminatus scoring well, but playing swiss cheese D as usual and then making speeches after every loss....finally daring the fans who booed to come try and do better <:) It was beautiful. The virus had mutated. You could see the soul of the dallas players being ripped out of their bodies. Luka appeared to gain 20 pounds and his whole body started to deteriorate. His thigh exploded. He alluded to personal problems. Kidd checked out further and further after every loss.

And yet as the pick shuttled between the mid and lower teens, it still seemed impossible that the pick would not convey as there were several teams with similar records, and they ALL seemed to be on perpetual losing streaks and many had their own reasons to tank....and all dallas had to do was not out-tank 1 of them.

But after 2 straight losses to charlotte , we seem to have entered a new reality where dallas was letting go of the rope...(what exactly did they agree to with the devil?)...only to catch it again for some reason, against sacramento, before last night where they completely re-invented the word "tank."

Going forward , only if you say fuck off to the league, to the players, to the fans, to grandmothers, to the unborn, to the long dead, to honest abe lincoln, to mermaids practicing fish tailed sky hooks underwater, to aliens streaming the game in orbit, in utter disbelief, who are now seriously considering putting us out of our misery, to decency, to existence itself, to the boatman, to all the gods who ever flew or fell, to all the heavens and hells...all while losing on purpose...and smiling about it... will it ever again be considered a tank. So it was written.

Kidd got rolled out there and he actually pinned it on the management, which was hilarious because he could have said nothing at all. But something made him throw it in there.

Then a bunch of guys including luka went out and put it on the JV bulls and seemed to be in cruise control. A half court buzzer beater was made by hardy...who never saw the floor again. Markief Morris ( brother of marcus, see the connection again?) turned into the black Doncic and then got pulled after scoring 13 points in 8 minutes. Javale mcgee went 4-4 at the line took and made a three before they nailed his 9 points in 7 minutes ass to the bench.

Actually just about anyone who made more than 2 shots got immediately yanked by kidd, no doubt having received many ominous text messages from cuban and lucifer at halftime. In the 4th quarter, the Bulls scored 14 straight points on a a team that was composed of matadors with names like AJ lawson, Mckinley wright and Justin holiday , guys who never get burn and are owed no money by dallas as of this Sunday.

Game over. Cuban , if he is still human, smiles fiendishly from the same seats where he bilked 20k people of their paychecks to attend this sham. This satanic ritual. Pick momentum, while still not settled, swings back to dallas as the devil tank wins.

-----

But the point of this post is to show that this event is just the latest in a very long story that undeniably ends with the knicks standing on top of dallas' rotten corpse. There may be a setback or 2 along the path, but the end game has been clear for a while now, you just have to see the light through the occasional dark patch.

That it did not happen last night only means that the finale is something that is even better. Better than the 11th pick in 2023. Better than the 5 point exploding heart technique. Better than the aliens and mermaids joining forces to make a tartare out of mark cuban's flesh.

We just have to wait a little longer for it.

I'll go one step further. If losing out on this pick means I can continue to watch this Dallas dumpster fire, then I consider it a fair trade.

Unprotected picks are more valuable than protected picks. That is the only point. Knicks aren't going to make all these picks, but they also aren't as valuable as unprotected or lightly protected picks in a trade.

I keep wondering if this will be the year coming up that they brink Rokas over. He could start next season where he is and we don't have a rotation spot for him with IQ's growth. I think this year was the plan but not so much now. Knicks need to free up some cap.

Agreed. While it would have been nice to have the #11 pick, we got our two future stars at pick 25. As long as that Mavs first rounder eventually conveys, it should be somewhere in the 15-25 range. We just have to find another Quickley or Grimes.

I think we can. Next years draft will be worse but I think we’ll be in a better position to identify our needs with a bunch of contracts coming up

The big mistake Dallas did was they threw the actual game. Many teams rest players but still play to win with untalented players. The Mavs did everything in their power to lose in the 4th. Everyone who could make a shot was on the bench and the players that played were all short. No center or power forward. Once the real tank lineup came in they had a lead and the Bulls went on something like a 20 - 4 run instantly.

Kidd being very open during interviews about tanking will now bite them in the butts. It would be funny if the NBA unprotected that pick and the Mavs move up in the lotto. Karma would be so sweet.

Can we reasonably expect anything besides a moderate fine here ?

Probably not, but you never know. This is exactly the type of perfect storm that is ripe for a team to be made an example of. They had a chance to make the playoffs and intentionally tried everything in their power to not maximize that chance. Real bad look, especially now with the gambling aspects of sports being somewhat maximized. Any look of a team throwing a game us bad.

I have no idea. If I were to guess it would be a small fine because Adam Silver had been getting ran over by both players and owners for a long time. What might make the punishment more harsh was just how blatant and harsh the tank was and how open they were about it. Those Kidd quotes will come back to haunt the Mavs. Sitting Luka, McGee, Twin and a damn Rookie. How are you going to sit a rookie? They went too hard on the tank. I am still shocked at how open and blatant they were about throwing the actual game. The NBA getting into bed with sports betting can't have teams throwing games.

All the years some Knicks fans wanted the tank it seemed to me they often did not perceive what was a tank and what was throwing games. This seems awfully close to the latter, which one might deem illegal. We shall see.
