College he showed go-to scoring chops (late). Summer league he showed "some" go-to scorer chops.
Wally on MSG was mystified why Thibs and the staff were so obsessed with getting him on the floor after missing camp etc We have heard a lot of (unconfirmed) notes that Grimes was the one who broke the Mitchell trade Theorize all we want all signs point to the FO and coaching staff highly valuing Grimes
What we are seeing is true from his scouting report: 3&D Good strong athlete with and excellent first step. Maybe not a pure blow by guy but can get the basket and finish or make plays
Obviously this is coming off a breakout game but weren't we all kinda waiting for a game like this? We have surely seen the flashes of slashing, shooting, playing D, making good basktball plays and he's also quickly earned the trust of Brunson/Randle which also says a lot
What's this kid's upside/ceiling in a league of talented guards?
franco12@ 12/28/2022 5:46 PM
.114% better from 3 on the road vs. home?! If he ever learns to play well at home, watch out!
His Dec #s are outstanding.
He is like Landry Fields, but maybe better?

This is the game that will be remembered as much for Grimes ascending as for Luka's record-breaking romp.
Grimes is a budding star.

Grimes are becoming a Fan-Favorite and a future Knicks star !!!
Alpha1971@ 12/28/2022 9:13 PM
Last several Games Grimes has been wearing the dunce cap at the end of games WTF.
Knixkik@ 12/28/2022 9:35 PM
I have a hard time seeing a star but definitely an elite connecting player. 3 & D + some extra. His upside is somewhere in between a rich man’s Danny green and a poor man’s klay Thompson. Either way it’s a starter on a championship team which is why he’s been considered so untouchable. I wouldn’t consider this an exact comparison, but as far as what he can contribute to a team, I think his upside is something like an Andre iguodala.
nyvector16@ 12/28/2022 10:03 PM
Grimes is a complete two-way player. i don't like the 3%D monmiker because he is so much more. Reggie Bullock is prototypical 3&D guy. I see Grimes bringing a lot more to the table and the assists are the first evvidence of that. This year we are starting to see him get to the basket instead of settling for the outside shot.
Can he develop the ability to create his own shot in the half court? Will his effectiveness lead to double teams that spaces out the floor for other guys?
Grimes' potential is through the roof.

H2O.2

We have a better Allan Houston with a handle, passing and defense. Period.
Kid is a star no questions asked. One of the best releases in the league. We struck gold.
He’s special.

He's good, but his jumper is no Allan Houston jumper. I see more of a 2 guard version of Shawn Marion as his ceiling. His absolute floor is probably Raja Bell/Marcus Smart/Aaron Mckie

Marcus smart is the hope from a culture setting standpoint. A guy who is the glue that holds it all together.

Wth? Marion had one of the worst mechanics. Did you think we were talking about Obi? Grimes is H20.2. Give him 15 FGAs a game and he will average over 20. You don't believe me, ask Allan.

Obi reminds me nothing of Marion. But if you don't remember Marion's skill set,and see how it compares to Grimes, I don't know what to tell you.
His skill set is nothing like Allan Houston.
nyvector16@ 12/29/2022 9:06 AM
Grimes is often compared to Allan Houston due to the stroke and release of his shot. The comparison is strictly on offense as Grimes is light years ahead of anywhere Houston was on Defense.
I see the similarity in the stroke, but Grimes reminds me more of Brandon Roy before all the injuries.
VDesai@ 12/29/2022 1:22 PM
He is not really like Allan Houston at all. Houston rarely took it to the basket or could dish out. He was a knockdown shooter, but he didn't have much dribble creativity. He was strong and could hit a jumper in your face. Jab steps, turnarounds.
Brandon Roy is not a bad comp. What I like about Grimes is he scores in the flow. He can knock the 3 down in a kickout and he can keep the ball moving. One of the reasons why I think he is a way better option at the starting 2 than Quickley. Quickley can obviously get hot, but he's an over dribbler and a ball stopper at times. I feel like Quickley has no feel for that shot clock...

Grimes is a super duper good glue guy who will probably end up all star level soon and come into his own as a 2-way pillar on team
Nalod@ 12/29/2022 2:13 PM
Phil Chenier type? Klay Thompson light? Allstar? not sure he'll get there. He is Grimes! Not Groot, but Grimes! Im enjoying his rise. Knicks with yoot! Love this season!!!!!

Grimey!

Grimes - he's not as big as houston, not as good on offense (although he had some great drives in the lane vs the mavs and did great work down low) - I don't see the great defender that everyone claims he is, but he is young and seemingly hungry

Grimes is already considered as one of the better wing, guard defenders in the league, by his peers.
I think Grimes offense is better than Allen’s already. His overall shooting is very good, and combine that with dribble penetration, he’ll be MUCH better in about a year.
Different generations though, both good and I think Grimes will have more all star appearances.
