Grade the trade: Dumb.
A Back court of Brunson and Trae is small.
If we would not give up this package for DM, why we do this for Trae Young?
Its not that I have absolute hate for Trae, its about fit.
I don’t know why ATL is struggling with him this year. lets not forget Spurs/pop traded away Murray for reasons of character. More arrogance and personality actually. Their back court is uber arrogant alpha and perhaps this is not working.
Also Im not trading all of Obi, IQ and Grimes……..
EF, Drose, and then the picks………..

I think Murray has been out since RJ gave him the Zaza special.

Murry missed just 5 games, and has played in the last 10.
im not following them other than what I see in the standings and Trae rumors about as he struggles.
Read a comparison to Marbury given his personality and a reason why they need to move him.
Maybe a team like Lakers can make a play for him. Can’t see how, but that type of double down for a star type deal.
Not this year though.
None of us are really good at it. “Collins for Randle a pick” was something last summer.
ATL has the talent but it don’t fit. Not our problem. LOL.

I would look into a trade for Murray. RJ, Last 10 games IQ and Murray all have similar stats. IQ in the SL has been working. Murray in the SL could also work. IQ 6th man. RJ to the Hawks. Murray is a better passes and defender than RJ

That ship sailed and not sure SAS even engaged other teams. Sometimes a good offer is made, say what ATL did. SAS might go back and say Give us a few days and shop it. Kind of like Danny did with DM.
Now ATL might have come in strong and gave them a very tight deadline as they did not want to be engaged in that kind of thing. SAS might have been very happy with the deal and "Boom", it happens. I might have read knicks never got in on Murry. Its possible they did not even want to. As said, there is something about Murry not everyone is thrilled with.
Hawks have Hunter and AJ Griff for now at the three.
Personally, I'd rather roll with the potential of RJ and Grimes and see what becomes.
Lets be real, Murry is an established player and there is a premium to be paid for him. RJ and Grimes are super young and their ceiling is not known.

GustavBahler @ 1/9/2023 11:36 AM
I'm not saying Brunson/Mitchell would have been an "arrogant backcourt". But they might have faced similar problems with a depleted roster. As well as the cubbard emptied of draft picks.

There are certain players who should never be Knicks. Like MJ, Reggie Miller, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway Sr., LeBron, Durant, Kyrie and especially Trae Young.

Hell yep. And also especially Lebron, KD, and Kyrie. If any of those guys were on the Knicks my fandom would be seriously conflicted. Seriously.

Your take is that they would trade Trae and keep Murray as the solution there. I’m saying there weren’t any chemistry issues before Murray, so why trade Trae. They built that team around Trae. RJ might be a better fit there and Murray might be a better fit here. Win/win

There have been plenty of chemistry issues in Atlanta prior to this season. They had that unlikely ECF run 2 years ago but otherwise there’s been issues between Trae and both teammates and coaches. I still don’t think they can move Trae though because they have attendance issues in Atlanta and Trae is the guy who puts butts in seats and sells jerseys to kids.

Only way it would make sense is if we were swapping Brunson for Trae and that would be something I would have to pass on. I was tough on/before acquiring Brunson but he has outplayed my hopes and while he isn't that top tier star - he just seems perfect for NY and has helped me soften my bias against Randle.

I would consider a D. Murray for RJ swap but would fist want to better understand if D. Murray has significant character/personality issues that would negatively impact our team chemistry.

The rumors are on Trae. Not my take.
If Murry was the issue and it was on court I'd assume half a season is not long enough to bail on it. Fans might, but FO and coaches i doubt it.
Collins and Trae had issues for some time now.
Trae and coach LLoyd had issues.
Trae and Mac have issues.

Earl Monroe was a knick killer as a Bullet. Different era.
Reggie Miller was very much wanting to be a knick. Almost happened.
No Riley Heat player should have been a knick! LOL!!
Sergio, you did not put Jordan on that list? He hurt us a lot more than Lebron ever did!!!
But really, you would not have taken KD/Kyrie PRIOR to their NET experience? Not to say Im OK with it in hindsight given what a dick Kyrie has been, but at the time few objected to KD.
They were Free agents.
Nets are really surging! I love a good rivalry and would love an opportunity to face them in a playoff. Sure, we may lose, but can't beat them if you don't face them!!!!!!!
Knicks only have Trae Young as our current villain!

VDesai @ 1/9/2023 1:27 PM
Now that we have Brunson I hear I'd say no to Trae. Im not super interested in Murray either.

Knicks needs are this IMO:
1) A scoring wing - either RJ keeps getting better or a real upgrade to RJ
2) Depth size - a PF/C who can stretch the floor and play strong D (Can Obi and Hart play better and do this?)
3) Depth on the wing - a wing off the bench who can get buckets and not get lost on D(we sort of have this with Reddish and Fournier already- but the defense part is hte issue).

I think they mainly stand pat because the best solutions are probably there internally. Either that your you take those guys (Obi, Reddish, Fournier, maybe Hartenstein) and swap em for better fits

Trae to NY? Fuhgettaboutit never hapenin nor would I want it to. He’s not my style much like Ja isn’t my cup of tea either.

Knixkik @ 1/9/2023 8:01 PM
Knicks have a system that works for them, they just need more talent to maximize it. That system involves guys like Deuce playing ahead of Fournier or Reddish, whereas that wouldn’t be the case with probably any other team. Adding Trae to this team would be completely going away from what works for this team. They will need to target more fitting players.

Why? We might have accidentally seen the Knicks win a championship for once?

If we can get trae at the right price by all means

Personally I do not want to see the Knicks win a ring if it's led by a player I dislike or is a nemesis or has dissed this franchise (ie. LeBron and KD).
