Not going to lie I'm surprised we won this one. Big 25 point lead at home, we usually lose these. It's really irritating to watch! But kudos to the team for getting this one.
Brunson once again playing like a Super Star. Outplayed and outshined Haliburton. Not sure what Brunson did during those games he was out with the hip but he's been just at another level since coming back. That annoying little prick McConnell was making it difficult for him but Brunson did what he needed to do. Clutch layup and three after Hield's three to cut it down to 2.
Good to see RJ back and he started off strong making shots and looking good but he was awful in the fourth. Bricking open shots and slow defense almost cost us. I was begging Thibs to bring in Grimes! Who shut down another All-Star in Haliburton and made the key dagger three.
Robinson was also huge! 9 offensive rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks! He's such an underrated part of our overall success and he doesn't get the credit he deserves imo. But without Robinson, we'd struggle. Hartenstein has been awful.
Man, you read some of the comments and you’d think we lost and are crapping out of the playoff picture. Note to the whiners - it’s the NBA. The Knicks are not the first team to lose late leads, in fact it happens a lot.
I’m not saying don’t address it and it bugs me too. But an iota of perspective prevents soiling one’s self.

His mental mistakes are confounding.
I watched the post game. Thibs said "we wanted to let him work through some things..."Does that mean stupidity? The brain farts are tough, but RJ is young and all these guys are inexperienced closing games
It's true, he is young but it's also not a good sign that he would choose to think that passing to Mitch in a close game situation with his defender in the area is a path forward. There are exactly 3 other better options ahead of Mitch and everyone and their mom should know that Mitch is not the guy to get the ball.
RJ learning the hard way.
Although I would have subbed RJ out for Grimes, I do not fault Thibs for sticking with his guy and hoping he figures things out. RJ just needs to step up and get it done. He's an important player on this team, as important as any player and role actually and cannot make the mistakes he made last night. I don't really mind missing shots, it's the lapses on defense and careless turnovers that trigger me.

Agreed. Keep saying we need a guy w cajones more than a superstar. Maybe Grimes will show that killer instinct?.. rj and Julius play tight in tight situations.
I'm a big Barrett fan. He choked but he has shown some clutch gene in the past. I like Grimes. Have we forgotten all of Grimes' mental lapses, late fouls, and getting trapped during the tight situations of that losing streak?
The only person I consistently trust in the clutch on this team is Brunson. Everyone else is sketchy at best.
Yes to all of this. Not my own observation but perhaps IQ was getting 4th quarter minutes (over Grimes for so long) because he is a better ball handler and passer out of double teams and traps/blitzing that Indiana was throwing at the Knicks.
this was my thought as well it had to be to deal with traps. That said, we still need another clutch player (who might be on the time but not given the opportunity). RJ and JR play tight; EF is unreliable. Grimes has hit shots in big moments (though flubbed up with the dribble). Would be awesome if IQ finds the killer instinct.
Bucks beat us with Ingles and Connaghton (sp?) -- not solely because of those guys but they were hitting big shots.

My theory is that IQ is a more versatile scorer right now. He has more of an offensive repertoire. Grimes is still working on his.

Yeah, they just need more experience. Randle is kind of a mentally weak dude and after Jalon, it's all young guys.

Brunson's first year as the first option also... IQ does appear to have "finishing" type skills for sure
Brunson has been a brilliant signing - AND a downright bargain. He got 4/yr/$104m and he's performing like a max player / All-Star / All-NBA team contender. Awesome.
So long as he stays moderately healthy for a few years, it will go down in the books as arguably the best free agent signing in the history of the team.
Other notes:
I like Quickley on the floor, especially with Brunson. The team is SOOO much quicker when you have 2 PG types on the floor. (Rudy Tomjanovich figured out something decades ago when he used Stevie Franchise and Cuttino Mobley together)
It got pretty ugly starting toward the tail end of the 3rd quarter. It was like a NBA Jam or other video games where there's an assist to make sure the losing team doesn't get blown out. Makes it more exciting.
Thibs - surely in a game where you're up over 20pts for an extended period of time, you'd have found a way to play your starters less than 40mpg, right? Not this coach! Sure, he doesn't really trust his bench outside of Quickley... and... oh yeah, just Quickley.
They gotta stop scaring us man.

It's not that the team is winning or getting better, it's HOW you win and you must do it better, perfection is necessary.
The team must win all 4 quarters, not give up big leads, not let a lead diminish too much, can't be any hurt or missing players from opposing team, Knicks players must also be held to a more reasonable amount of minutes played (everyone under 37 min), no costly later 4th TO's, some of Rebecca's outfits are a no-no, no young players on other teams can get their person records for points scored and when Knicks players do we will ignore that, even if Brunson is playing like a gonzo MVP we will also bypass that, and most importantly: even in wins there must be blame and always must be pointed at the coach.
Did I get that right?

Is this team a title contender? No? Then there's plenty of room for scrutiny. You think we're bad, you should thank your lucky stars you're not a Celtics or Sixers fan.

I think we are way past level-headed scrutiny.
I love what Hart is doing at end of play screening Grime's guy. He does this all the time on both ends. Playing smart without the ball.

Fan is short for fanatic.
Obviously glad Knicks won
but also want to acknowledge B.Mathurin for the Pacers is the real deal. One might think he makes other Pacers expendable.
And what happened to Duarte? Sophomore slump or does the league have a book on him now.

He has been injured and tough spot in rotation but after that I don't know

Mathurin is a star in the making and someone we're gonna have to deal with for a long time.
