Max contract for a selfish coward diva with a bad injury history who already once burned us? No thanks

The heart says no, for obvious reasons. BUT the head says...also NO, for what should be even more obvious reasons, i.e. health and salary.

KP is fools gold right now. I do not trust his ability to stay healthy long term. Let some dumb franchise give him $150 million to go sit on the IR after next season

Who said anything about a max contract? Just you. I doubt anyone wants KP back on those terms.

Im seeing more from Hart, but not that much. Those are all reasonable points. It could go either way IMO. The last game KP went a long stretch without taking a shot. Was keeping the ball moving. Then when he had a good look, KP drained a 3. The old KP would have tried playing heroball. It was his ability not to be ball dominant, but still put up near All-Star numbers. Makes me wonder if it could work here.

Mitch has missed many games. So its pot luck going forward who is more available. I still want to see how things shake out in the playoffs. How KP finishes the season.

LOL, you think he wishes he could have that one back? Would be interested in hearing why Thibs would be a bad fit. Sounds like" hating" (J/K) I agree that Randle and KP would be a question mark. Seeing the better ball movement from watching KP lately on league pass, makes me think it might work. They both can play in the paint, and beyond the arc. Which means they can swap roles, depending on the opposition.

I think you kinda see it with Hart. Thibs places a lot of defensive responsibility on his fives and I'm not sure KP has the chops to measure up. Not saying KP is bad defensively, but I don't think he can physically hold up. As for KPs fit with Randle, it could work. But I remember Carlisle tried to do similar things with Luka taking the post and KP inverted as the spot up guy. KP never seemed comfortable when I watched him then, like his rhythm was thrown off. Admittedly, I haven't watched a lot of Wizards games and I don't know if this has improved with Kuz. But even if it has, I think it's safe to say Kuz is more malleable than Randle in a team offense.

Hard to resist, isn’t it!

VDesai @ 1/20/2023 10:19 AM
I dont take it personally. Knicks have been a shitty organization for a long time and certainly way shittier when he asked for the trade. Its a different ship now and he's older and shown some realization of his immaturity back then. That said, he has never proven to be healthy. But watching him on Wednesday and you saw glimpses of why we were so enthralled by his promise. 7'1", knocking down 3 balls, making some spectacular blocks. I actually do think he he can play with Randle because he doesn't crowd the paint. He is having a really good season and if Beal comes back and Kuzma keeps balling they can actually be pretty dangerous (although the depth behind them is questionable).

KP will con some stupid GM into giving him a max deal. It may be the wizards

I hear the Wiz are on edge about keeping Beal happy and want both KP and Kuz back.

Beal signed an insane deal. he is 29 years old. Keeping him happy? He got his money and while he can ask out, he also gets paid and got more than what was available had he gone FA.
The goal must have been to keep and build around him. As said previously, KP I doubt opts out and Wiz can either extend, have him opt out and do a longer deal more friendly to team but KP gets security, or just let him opt in, then lay out a scenario where he gets paid big if he plays.

Well clearly all NBA GMs are intelligent. How do I know? Elfrid Payton isn’t on an NBA roster.

I used to love KP and blamed the FO for his departure (in some ways still do)

But (a) he's not the same KP and (b) i can't tell if he's sincere or just playing the situation because he's not sure if anyone will want him for big $$ and he doesn't strike me as a guy to play for small, prove it deal merely for the love of the game

Brook Lopez on that kind of deal for years! Why? He wanted to still play and be relevant. And he is.
But he has made crazy money and improved his defense greatly. The market determined his money.
As for KP, The market determines his money. Why would he be a guy to play for small prove it deal for the love of the game? Who does that? This is a business. If his NBA market gets too low and his money is good, why sit on a bench for vet min and not play? He can play in Europe, easier schedule and have fun while making a good wage.

Stars never take less to chase a ring? Hard to find a team that didnt win a chip without at least one star taking a lot less. Would KP do that? IDK. If he was willing to take less to build a contender, the second half of the season isnt spent on the IR, sure it would be something I would hope the FO considers.

Some might not consider KP a star, that would be fair. His numbers this season though are close enough.

I imagine the FO would have to convince KP that he was the last big piece to build a contender, for him to agree to a cap friendly deal.

Can't recall when one took less "to win" (see below) and was not at the tail end of his career.
He is a unique player with a skill set for a big guy and no-one here can speak for him.
In the "right circumstances" he could opt out for longer term deal. Harden just did this.
Lebron and the "Beatles" all took just below market value to play with each other.
KP is 27.
He limped off the court last night after rolling his ankle.
Fragile he is. Always will be? If the small ass Phil Jax theory holds perhaps.
Suck a low probability here he returns its really not worth debating.

LOL "Not it!"

Durant wasnt at the tail end of his career in GS. LeBron went on to win 2 more. Dirk took less the year he won a chip'. Wade was never the highest paid player on the Heat.

KP's last big contract was over 100 million. More generous now of course than decades past. Was it enough to take less for a better shot at a ring? IDK. I do know if he was healthy, I wouldnt be against it.

KP isnt in the top 25 in the league when it comes to usage. We have two low usage players in Grimes and Mitch. So its not like we cant add more scoring in the starting lineup by penciling in KP. Also gives them another scoring option when they key in on Brunson and Randle.
