Knicks · Porzingis has a player option for 23-24 (page 1)

No. It won’t be long before he’s sidelined again.

Thats partly why I voted "maybe. I want to see how KP finishes the season. Only missed 5 games so far this season.

The other reason is that I want to see how we do in the playoffs. If KP would address any issues.

SergioNYK @ 1/19/2023 9:50 AM
Randle is better than KP and we need Robinson's defense and rebounding so I don't see where KP fits. He'd be too expensive for the Obi role off the bench.

If we find that the difference in the playoffs was that we needed more scoring from the center position. And KP goes through this season without missing a lot of games. I would like the FO to see how much Porzingis wants to come back to NY

Sounded like someone who was open to the possibility. He got his big contract. If he was willing to sign for something closer to what Mitch is paid, to help field a contender. Sure Id be open to that as a fan. Then move Mitch for a deeper bench.

Nalod @ 1/19/2023 11:02 AM
Maybe.
Lets be real, kid has matured and thats ok. Not like he kicked our mothers or anything.
Im not sure he gets durable like Camby did.
Not sure where he would fit in this current lineup but that too could change over time.
He has a player option for 36mm next season. Reality is its smart to create a market and being a "Mench" is never a bad thing.
Personally if he wants to be here, thats cool. Logistically I don't see it, but that can change.
I see him perhaps opting out and likely resigning with Wiz on a long term deal that gives him length and longer pay out. If he wants to risk it, play two seasons without major injury and be totally free he could command a bigger deal.
So I put maybe.
Im trying to not put last night's awful game into my emotional wheelhouse.

As for the Wiz, they have a longjam at forwards with Kispert, Avida, Hachimora, and Kuzma. I beleive Hachimora is on the trading block. Swapping him for Toppin dose not really solve their issue. Same for Reddish.
Kuzma is playing his way to a nice payday if he can stick with the Wiz.

Good post, good points. What me think that KP was open to the idea. Was when he said that he thought it was like playing at MSG everywhere else. He's played away games, but maybe its about having the MSG crowd on your side. I agree that being a "Mench" and taking less in NY, could create its own opportunities.

KP's a much more willing passer, which would help with chemistry. He also has played with Brunson, so that would help speed up the process.

Speaking of Brunson, this move would be with him in mind. To get him the help he needs while he's playing like an All-Star.

ramtour420 @ 1/19/2023 12:14 PM
No to KP. Unless he broke off all business with his brother. Even then I'd be wary. Not going to go into reasons why, it's been finely grated and grinded on this here forum into fine pixie dust. Ahh, the promise of a unicorn and all you get is a donkey. An often hurt, no heart, no rebound small behind basketball ass

I can tell you the answers to some of your questions already.

The Knicks will indeed find themselves in the position to need more scoring from their C position. It's already that way quite frankly, so it's an answered question: Mitch will not suddenly become an offensive option in the playoffs, especially when defenses tighten up, and especially so if you compare him to KP's offensive output level (and obviously the same can be said for the other direction regarding defense and rebounding).

KP has already also demonstrated that he is injury prone, we just need to look at every other year of his career since his rookie season. You don't magically become not injury prone with his type of body and play. And if he doesn't miss another game this year, you'd be a fool to think he will have more seasons like that, because of his history. Unless you choose to ignore it.

And then, how are you getting him? MLE is the only realistic way but why would he turn down his $33M option?

So what's the $33M range option that you would trade for him?

NYKBocker @ 1/19/2023 2:50 PM

Have to say, KP in the middle was effective with his length on defense.
BUt as martin Alluded to other than a trade the reality is he likly not turning down his player option unless he is leveraging his deal longer term and its very possible Wiz want him long term.
The injury thing? THat is a consideration. No ifs or Butts about it. Pun intended.
I think this thread was just the flavor if the day given we played wiz with KP. He played a good game last night and they won.
Knicks looked bad.
Randle looked bad.
RJ looked awful.
How big is the wall Grimes has hit?

What was good? Randle started passing and we made a bit of a run.
RJ was going to his right more. Both stopped shooting the THree.

I thought Grimes already hit the wall and surpassed it. Hard to hit a wall, with only a few attempts, and your big 3 are taking all of the shots. Grimes is a perfect catch and shoot player for a pass first PG or a passing team. But with an ISO heavy team and your top 3 players taking turns with ISO moves in crunch time, players like Grimes, obi and others are left out.

Are we reacting with our heads or our hearts?

The heart says no, for obvious reasons. BUT the head says...also NO, for what should be even more obvious reasons, i.e. health and salary.

"Oh your boyfriend that beat you has had a change in heart? Well he still can't hold down a job and pay the mortgage..."

GustavBahler @ 1/19/2023 6:01 PM
As I already pointed, out signing KP would be contingent on him not missing a lot of games this season, and taking less to play here.

Cant help yourself can you? See anything in my post about trading Randle, or anyone else but possibly Mitch? Brunson and Porzingis know each other's game, that is a positive. That helps address chemistry.

Of course the subject is topical. Its a message board about the Knicks. I guess I should give you credit for talking about hoops lately, and not other posters. Keep it up!

Im thinking hoops, you're thinking about boyfriends.

This is the first time Ive even considered the thought of bringing KP back, and he would have to be relatively healthy for the rest of the season, and take a discount to play in NY. That aint desperate.

No, as long as Thibs is coach. It's just a bad fit. Also have a hard time seeing him fit with Randle. I'm over 'the stay woke' era tho and wouldn't mind him back at MSG.

LOL, you think he wishes he could have that one back? Would be interested in hearing why Thibs would be a bad fit. Sounds like" hating" (J/K) I agree that Randle and KP would be a question mark. Seeing the better ball movement from watching KP lately on league pass, makes me think it might work. They both can play in the paint, and beyond the arc. Which means they can swap roles, depending on the opposition.

I think you kinda see it with Hart. Thibs places a lot of defensive responsibility on his fives and I'm not sure KP has the chops to measure up. Not saying KP is bad defensively, but I don't think he can physically hold up. As for KPs fit with Randle, it could work. But I remember Carlisle tried to do similar things with Luka taking the post and KP inverted as the spot up guy. KP never seemed comfortable when I watched him then, like his rhythm was thrown off. Admittedly, I haven't watched a lot of Wizards games and I don't know if this has improved with Kuz. But even if it has, I think it's safe to say Kuz is more malleable than Randle in a team offense.
