Knicks · OT: Cavs fan's perspective on Donovan trade (page 2)
Injuries aside, I think the Cavs benefitted last season from teams not taking them seriously in the beginning of the season. Their wins decreased remarkably in the last 3Rd of the season. I don't see that as a problem this season.

Sucks for the Cavs and Bulls but some players are late bloomers and need a new coach and when it happens together you get an out of nowhere All Star. Good post but let's be honest here.
If Lauri Marrakennan were Julius Randle and/or an NY Knicks player?
This fan base would label and consider him as nothing more than a "stat compiler" who's playing "hero ball" and not efficient.
Due to his Utah Jazz not having an above .500 record (only 25-25) and also only seeded @ 8th in the West and only .5 (1/2) half a game away from OKC (from falling to the 11th seed).
His team is literally only a 1/2 game away from falling to the 11th seed and only ahead of trash teams like Houston (11-36), Spurs (14-33), Lakers (22-26) and Portland (22-25).
An improved player? Yes.
An All-Star Player? The way NY fans judge players?!? Hell no!

OR
Some of us feel like we have a few Lauri Marrakennans………BUT………surrounded by chuckers (RJ, JR, cough..cough JB), a rigid ole-skool coach, a FO hitting long term singles (no big trades or FA ex. DM should be in NY right now; eventhough im happy he’s not) and a fan base with unreachable expectations…………our version of LMs are now just roll players (Grimes, IQ, cough……cough… Obi). But all 3 could be much different players in a environment that fits their skill set.
I still think our old bench or 2nd unit back when rose and IQ with Obi was a jolt of energy and the type of offense the starters should run. Whenever we slow down in half court, they hit us with the zone and it’s like crypto night. All of our IQ goes in the trash. We become dumb for some reason. We learned how to beat a zone in HS 🤣.
Maybe it’s time to play Obi and Randle more minutes together. Since Obi is health now and his stroke is back. We should also take advantage of IQ and Obi chemistry on the court more.

Expectations are incredible for fans. Its like if they can't see it, it can't happen. Mobley is still a kid.
DM is their Mooby. They eat this shit up and can't handle a multi year process. Can someone remind me WTF is a Mooby?
In the movie “Dogma” , Mooby is a fast food place with the golden calf as its mascot.
When the Jewish people were freed of slavery and escaped to Egypt they became disillusioned with god. Melted all their gold to create a “golden calf” to pray to. They lost their way and dived into self gratification. God got pissed and condemned them to 40 years in the desert until those offended aged out.
Knicks have not won a title in 50 years. We cling to false gods from time to time thinking a star will solve our issues. Melo became our false god. Not that the issue was melo, it was the fans reaction to “coming home” and not seeing the team around him was needing. We blamed Melo for many of the teams issues. Isiah hath given us Marbury. Bob McAdoo was bought in at one time in his prime to do this. “Starphuching with a Mooby”.
Fans tend to assign their stars to task that is sometimes not attainable but the franchise sells the star and creates the expectation.
Maybe some Cav’s fans thought DM could carry them until Mobley lived up to his potential. Half a season and while that was an eloquent well written comment questioning his teams upside, it was an eloquent whiney bitch comment by a fan who demonstrates little forethought to his teams upside going forward. Yes, you make a big trade and give up pieces which strains the talent pool. Key is they have good pieces in place that need time to come together and build the bench. With Melo we counted on AMare for too much, and if you recall JR smith was relied on way too much. He was playing in china (strike season) and a free agent mostly due to his boneheaded antics.
Reposting the Cav’s dude demonstrates fandom impatience is a universal trait.
I still think they can win, but they need to add more floor balance around the team, more shooters. BTW, people are still bellyaching about drafting Toppin, but Cavs passed on Toppin for Isaac Okoro. Okoro is a total nothing player.

Nalod, if the season ended today and the Cavs went into the playoffs against a full strength Nets team…..what do you think their chances are to get into the second round? The Cavs look like a second tier team with no draft capitol in the near future. He didn’t even get into Mitchell’s contract which allows him to opt out after 2 more seasons. They just might be kind of fooked. Time will tell, I thought that was the fans point….they are in that place between heaven and hell. They just won a championship not long ago and these moves are designed to take that big swing to get back there.

What they needed to do is give him more free reign to be the man in year 2, but instead he's in a situation where he gets the ball less. You have a great pure point guard and a developing potential front court superstar, and then you add a ball dominant combo guard. Sure that's a great player, but at this point its not gonna be easy to unlock Mobley. They have a roster that is less than the sum of its parts.I still think they can win, but they need to add more floor balance around the team, more shooters. I'd guess that's where the patience comes in. Integrating a player like DM is not easy, and when you add in the dev path for a second year guy like Mobley while trying to figure out who your starting SF player is, you probably really need until later NEXT year to really evaluate them all together.
They also just got their intended backup PG back in Rubio.
For me, I wouldn't call the Mobley issue a stagnation or step back (although I don't watch their games closely enough to really know what is going on there), more growth with needed patience.

There is a thing called a sophomore slump. All growth isn't linear. Mobley came in and produced more than was expected of him his rookie year. The other teams in the league caught up and now he needs to make the first step. We saw it first hand with IQ and he's turned into a more well rounded player in year 3. As an aside, I think this Cavs team is scary. I can tell from the last game that Spida and Darius are still trying to figure out how to play with each other. Unless both players are straight up asses, and they don't seem to be by most accounts, I expect them to gel and become more lethal as the season goes on. Okoro needs to become league average from the corner three. He provides them a lot defensively, but they need to be able to shoot.
