Yeah, there are better ways to spend unprotected picks than acquiring essentially a slightly older replica of RJ while keeping the real RJ.
Won't happen but if FO really thinks adding OG would help that much - if poss I'd rather use RJ in the trade and keep more of our bench and/or picks. Think RJ and Randle's chemistry isn't great to begin with so maybe replacing RJ with a better defender and more of a spot up shooter would give Randle more space on the court. Grimes still starts at the 2 and we keep Obi off the bench behind both forwards. Grimes just needs the playing time and his shot and defense will continue to improve.

Honest question. Knowing what you know, who put of IQ, Grimes or RJ do you think carries the most value on the open market?

I think Grimes and IQ have more value - due to their ability to fit into most any offense, efficiency, potential for growth, and being non ball dominant. I would prefer to keep them as they are more flexible roster-wise to however our roster evolves as we make more moves going forward. Toronto may want a local back and he would help ease Toronto's offensive load... but probably not vs more picks from us.
At that price I would have to think the FO has reassurance they can resign OG and he is not just a one year rental.

July 6, 2022: Traded by the Detroit Pistons with Ismael Kamagate to the Portland Trail Blazers for Gabriele Procida, a 2025 1st round draft pick ( was later selected), a 2025 2nd round draft pick ( was later selected) and a 2026 2nd round draft pick ( was later selected). Detroit also received a trade exception conditional 2025 1st-rd pick is MIL own 2025 2nd-rd pick is DET own 2026 2nd-rd pick is more favorable
Oh, this is a good comparison. Shall we say, a pre-Gobert trade scenario. Ugh stupid Minny.
It’s a great comparison player wise, although OG is younger and better. But unfortunately the BG and AG (before Gobert and after Gobert) comes into play here. Murray is the baseline deal for a fringe star player in his mid 20s in this market.

I'd say Grant is better just off his versatility on the court. Also, calling OG a fringe all star players is a leap. Randle, who is having his best season, and Siakam are fringe all star players this year. Murray had a strong case for being a top 10 guard last season. OG has never had a season that good. If OG were that good, the Raptors wouldn't be talking trade in the first place.

Grant is MUCH better offensive player than OG, and guys it's considerable. Grant has dispelled any of the of the "good scorer on a bad team" worries with the season he's having.
Grant is a legit 2nd option. OG is much more like DeAnre Hunter.

I agree with this. Grant is the better offensive player and it’s not even close. I hope he doesn’t have any bad feelings about when we drafted his brother
Unless its for a superstar, I don't cosign trading ANY unprotected picks for a role player. Have we learned nothing from the Isaiah years?
Even Milwaukee had top 5 protection on the pick we received and they are less likely to need it than us.
For a player of OG's caliber, I would want top 10 protection on the picks.

Cam Johnson... The Knicks don't have a throwaway piece to match that unless the Raps are interested in clearing cap space.

would you rather have Cam than Obi? Cam Johnson is a sniper but he's like not good at any other part of the game really is he?
I would think our best would be like Obi/Reddish and the Milw/Wash/Det picks
Just popping in to say no thanks!

If I'm looking at it objectively, I'd say the Raptors would prefer a sniper like Cam. They already
Y have a bunch of athletic tweener forwards, but they need shooting.
Thad Young 2.0?

Dejuante Murray was an allStar. OG is not.
Gorbert was multiple DOPY and all star.
OG is not.
As mentioned, RJ may prove to be better. Many are down on RJ these days.
Im ok if we do nothing this week. The hype is off the charts and we are not in contention.
Have a plan, stick to it and good things happen. Thing of it is, we don't know the plan.
Several posters have mistakenly concluded that other posters pointing out RJ's lackluster play and not being held accountable, for wanting him gone. Not me, RJ is talented, tough, and stays confident to a fault at times, but he needs coaching to reach the next level and should remain a Knick unless moved for a difference-maker like an SGA. Some might want him gone, but I think most are just tired of the lack of b-ball smarts in his decisions, which keeps him stuck in his current gear. He has at least another level to hit and deserves time to do so and mature, hopefully in NY. Same with a level-headed Randle. Vets & coaches just need to help them reach their peaks.
A starting line-up of JB, RJ, Randle, Mitch, & Grimes is a damn solid foundation for success, IQ off the bench for sure. I'd add Obi, iHart, & McBride if they stay. Add 1 or 2 rotational players and I see a 2nd round playoff team. Cam is doomed here, Rose seems cooked, Sims is limited but might learn and have a role. I even think EF on the 2nd unit is a damn solid spark plug as seen in Philly. Who knows how the Euro-stash will pan out in the NBA? Plenty of positives for this team, and that is why some posters expect more.
