Knicks · Proposed trade of Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley For Toppin and Fournier and a pick (page 1)

TheGame @ 2/5/2023 4:56 PM
There is an article reporting that the Knicks have interest in Jarred Vanderbilt. In looking at him, he looks like just the player we need. While Grimes is a great defender, he is only 6’4”. We need a 6’8”-6’9” type defender to guard the Luka, Tatum, Leonard, George-types. RJ is only average as a defender and he is also undersized for a SF. Vanderbilt cannot shoot but as a go-to defender off the bench, he would add something we currently don’t have. Now I would not give the Jazz a 1st round pick for taking on Fournier’s deal but I would give them a second round pick to make this trade happen. I love Toppin but there is no chance he gets minutes with Randle here and even I must admit that Randle looks to be a better prospect than Toppin.
Knixkik @ 2/6/2023 8:33 AM
Vanderbilt would be an excellent fit. I would miss Toppin but Vanderbilt is probably the better player and definitely the better fit. He can defend many positions and won’t get boxed into PF like a Toppin. Thibs can easily play him some center minutes alongside Randle because you’re not giving anything up defensively like with Toppin/ Randle. The downfall is it probably costs a pick to upgrade from Toppin to Vanderbilt let alone Fournier to Beasley. So I’m guessing ainge wants multiple first round picks. But I’ve mentioned in other threads that Vanderbilt could be like a prime Robert Covington here. All purpose defender and provide lineup versatility we don’t have right now.

KFS guys have suggested this and I wouldn't be surprised:

Maybe the Vanderbilt/Beasley trade talk is connected to the OG pursuit.

In what way? As an admission that OG isn't happening? A lot of moving pieces and we saw the desperate hands some teams played in the Kyrie sweepstakes. Do any of the proposed packages LAC, PHO and LAL get the close to a FVV or OG trade?

Vanderbilt/Beasley going to Raptors; OG to NY; Obi, other to Utah. Picks going to TOR and Jazz.

Maybe Vanderbilt/Beasley/Obi to Toronto and salary and picks to Jazz.

Looks like another instance of Ainge using the media to pump up trade interest and cost. Too bad it's Ainge, maybe he has reformed himself since 5 months ago?.....nah, he is probably more full of his little self.

I think the Raps would rather have picks than Vanderbilt or Bease. They already have Beasley 4.0 at home in Trent and Vanderbilt only exacerbates their roster issues. The pieces don't fit, unless there are more moves in conjunction with that deal.

In Brock I trust.

Ainge is a pimp.
He is just doing his job.
KnickDanger @ 2/6/2023 10:42 PM
Unprotected #1 and Obi for Vanderbilt and Beasley? Puhleeze….

No one who's been pimp-slapped as much as Ainge can ever be called a pimp.

Forget Ainge. I'll stick with Obi. Vanderbilt is another guy we will be calling to be traded once we see him shoot. Pass.

If knick fans are calling for deuce head cause he hasn’t shot very well, Vanderbilt might be worse. But he’s also a more versatile defender than deuce. He can guard 1-4.

Dude, just stop. No one is calling for Deuce's head. Stop being a drama queen

He can defend well but we keep saying we need two way wings that can shoot the three. He is not that. So like his drive and kick game though.
If we are just looking for another versatile defender, we can call the Mavs and get Frank back.
Sure the cost would be lower.
Main point is that will want our picks in any deal.

When the Knicks were at their best, they had their full starting 5 and were playing 2 centers off the bench with Toppin injured. You can make a strong argument that having Vanderbilt instead of Sims is like having your cake and eating it too. He’s going to bring what worked off the bench with the hustle, defense and rebounding, but with much more versatility. If RJ and Quickley are running the second unit, than Hartenstein, Vanderbilt and Deuce make this a strong defensive lineup around them. So if the front office is looking at the stretch of games when the Knicks turned the corner and what was working , then Vanderbilt makes a ton of sense.

Just not for Obi and picks. That would be terrible assert management.

fishmike @ 2/7/2023 8:53 AM
why would we send out the better talent AND draft comp?
MS @ 2/7/2023 9:37 AM
That trade is awful. Giving up two picks for those guys.

Buddy Hield for Reddish, Fournier, 1st
Caruso for Rose, Reddish, 1st and a low level second

Small upgrades only right now.

I think Caruso would help Obis game.

Honestly all we are missing is one more consistent scorer which hield would give the team.

I would absolutely do reddish and a first for Caruso. Rose and reddish is too much salary.

I dont get how anyone would give up a first for Caruso.

Think in terms of giving up Reddish and a future IQ/Grimes/Deuce under 4 years of contract control and maybe the trade becomes more highlighted.

He has 2 more years around $10M. Injured a lot. Barely scores 5ppg over the past 3-4 years.

What is this Caruso doing that Deuce isn't or can't do starting next year?
