Knicks · Trade for Westbrook (page 1)

Saw the recent NY post article by Erich Richter "Trade Deadline Bold Predictions"

This trade suggestion stood out to me: Russell Westbrook, Lakers 2027 top-5 protected first-round pick, 2029 top-5 protected first-round pick traded to the Utah Jazz for Mike Conley, Malik Beasley and Rudy Gay

Knowing we have no plans to use Fournier, Rose, and Reddish - Why not package these players as a salary dump for Westbrook and future draft assets. What is the point of not making a move and just keeping this guys rotting on our bench.

Westbrook can be cut, given a try in the second unit, or potentially re-find himself in a different role.
Either way - It takes Fournier and reddish off the books and is 47M expiring at the end of the year.

There's also a good chance the Lakers will be terrible closer to 2030.

Would love to see everyone else's take on it

I suggested exactly that, I think its a great idea and depending on the protection I would be willing to include Obi or McBride. I actually think Westbrook and IQ off the bench together would be a phucking wrecking crew and delightful to watch. Obviously its a short term relationship but who knows.
ramtour420 @ 2/8/2023 5:17 PM
No to trading McBride. He is like the best defensive player in the NBA statistically. Or something like that. Bad idea. We can trade the guys mentioned for draft value or expirings or whatever. I'd not include players from the rotation
ankurk @ 2/8/2023 5:30 PM
I say this because there seems to be no plan for these guys to see any minutes whatsoever.

If this is all a plan to save Rose's health for the final stretch and have be like a shot of adrenaline down the stretch I would be okay with that as well.

My take is I have no idea why the Lakers would do this...
Caseloads @ 2/8/2023 6:25 PM
I said same. give rose, fournier, cam reddish for westbrook and pick

Wait, so LA is going to give us a pick for 3 players who can’t even crack our rotation AND Westbrook? Well shoot, sign me up for that

Important to understand here the Lakers project to have $34m or so in cap space this summer.

Taking Fournier in some foolhearty belief he and Rose and Reddish move the needle for them the next 28 games is ridiculous.

This guy gets it

I love seeing desperate losing teams making desperate moves @ the trade deadline ala Lakers who are A.) 5 games below .500. B.) 3rd worst team within the entire Western Conference and C.) 13th seed.

So glad Obi Toppin isn't getting traded to Utah!!!!

Am I wrong to like the trade for Lakers. But what is Minnesota doing? Are they trying to clear cap space? This seems to make them worse?

I actually like the trade for Minny. Go on the Wolves message boards. The DLo hate is palpable. Doesn't really penetrate, doesn't play defense, is streaky. Conley is having a decent season This is a move of desperation, but it is what it is.

I think this trade pretty much seals the deal that Karl Anthony Towns will walk the first chance he gets...
Ironically, it is the fear of losing him after next season for nothing that has this team squirming and ready to give away every last asset it has to try to convince KAT they are trying to do something.

You can bank on it... KAT will be traded either in the offseason or by 2024 Trade Deadline.
NO WAY Minessota lets him walk for nothing...

I could see a scenario of Mitch, Fournier's expiring if he is still here, 2 First round picks(one unprotected),and filler for Karl Anthony Towns, especially if he tells them he is only interested in certain teams or he will not sign the extension as part of the trade and simply hit free agency.

Not trying to sidetrack the thread, but this trade has long-term implications for several teams all revolving around KAT...

Russell is better playing off ball than Westbrook

Pretty sure Rose offered the lakers EF and/or Randle last offseason for Westbrook and they said no

KAT extended, you know this right? His player option in 5 years is for 62mil.
He not walking. He might ask for a trade, but he not walking anywhere.
You can bank on that.

I was referring to the Knicks-related proposal.
