Or Toppin and 2 firsts for cam Johnson.

Big upgrade to the bench at the 3/4 spots.

Usual starting 5 with a bench unit of IQ, Hart, Barrett, Hartenstein and either Bog or Johnson

I'm not trading Obi and a #1 for a 33yr old player. Doesn't help the future

It would help the future because it makes the team better. Positive momentum. The alternative is trading Toppin for a couple of second round picks.

WWW has clout, but lets admit any amare comparisons are over done by now.
Not sure what Bermans statement really says given its Leon and Perry's call but "What ever"!

Maybe the Knicks are just fine with Toppin as Randle’s backup? He was the 8th pick in the draft but for his 3 years the Knicks have been competing for the playoffs and Toppin has been a rotation player the entire time. There’s always been a fan push to open up more minutes but for a mid lottery pick, maybe being a rotation player for 12-15 mpg is the outcome here.

Not for nothing but we may now have an inclination that drafting Obi was more of a FO call with Wes and maybe Leon than from the scouting group that Walt Perrin heads up.

That was my sense previously.

Knicks try to make value deals. I took it more that they didn't think they were getting enough return for Obi at this juncture. Can revisit at draft.

#Sources — Knicks were looking for an unprotected first-round pick for Obi Toppin. No teams budged. #NBA

Seems like the Knicks are just fine with Obi unless it lands them a real piece for a star trade. It’s unprotected pick or bust for that.

Wes isn't really impressing.

They passed up a lot of good talent picking Obi.

It would be nice if we could execute a lottery pick occasionally.

Obi and RJ for Bridges isn't a terrible trade. Bridges is elite defensively and shoots the three at high percentage and scores within the offense.

Also glad we did not trade for a soon to be 34 year old Bogdanovic. Especially if the deal included Obi! When you're a .500 team you don't trade for over the hill vets to get you an extra win or two! Let the kids continue to play and develop!

We are not trading Obi for some second round picks. I am not 100% sold on Obi and its obvious he would flourish more in a different offense than what Thibs offers. You can't trade a guy just based on the current coach and his offense. We made that mistake with Rod Strickland, probably the best pg here since Walt. Pitino hated Strickland, plus we had Jackson. Traded Rod for an over the hill Cheeks , Pitino left a year later and then watched Strickland be great for the next 10 yrs.

other than Tyrese who do you think we passed?

I both like Obi and have been a critic when he has played soft. But i think the big thing with Obi is opportunity. He is playing behind JR and he has to absolutely crush it when he gets his minutes as limited as they are. Unfortunately, he hasn't at least not consistently.

I would like to see him take it the rim more and not hide in the corner waiting for a 3

Obi won't have teams knocking down the doors in free agency and I'm sure the Knicks will extend him a fair price.

It's a long lasting tradition where GM's/Prez"s can't let go of their own picks. Guess that would be admitting a mistake.

For me, Obi needs a lot of development. But that is what all young players need. Unfortunately, at the NBA level, there is not much emphasis placed on individual development. Obi needs more than a skills trainer. Needs to have someone on guiding him to play smarter and become more multidimensional. I would have him driving to the basket more. Especially off catches where guys are closing out to him. There is also no reason he can't add some basic play making. Drive and kick out. Fundamental basic good bball IQ. Not to mention some more effort to get offensive and defensive rebounds. With his athletic ability, we should be seeing one put back dunk a game.
I wanted him drafted and thought we were getting a dog. Turns out he is not.
Hope he changes and gets better. If he doesn't this year, Wes will have to admit he was not what he thought. Unfortunately, we will be getting rid of him for pennies on the dollar.
