Knicks · Could we and should we get Ben Simmons (page 2)

Simons has a black cloud over him.

If the risk out weighs the reward, don't do it. Personally I don't see the reward, just the risks.

I wonder what the dynamic is when JB, JR and RJ, all guys that have been durable and contributed on the court have negotiated in the $25m range and then you bring in this guy that can't get off the bench in NJ, making more than all of them. I don't know, doesn't feel right to me. Feels disloyal in a way.

They will buy him out. Question is, would he be a plus or a minus for us?
KnickDanger @ 3/6/2023 9:48 PM
Knicks on 9 winning streak, best time as a fan in ages, and this is where our minds go?
technomaster @ 3/6/2023 10:28 PM
LOL. Uhm, for EF + Rose + 3 unprotected firsts, sure. :)

*If* you get him right, he's an elite defender, distributor... but he hasn't been that for 2 seasons now. But for the 1st round picks, and yes, even if you ate his salary, those 1st rounders would be worth a lot... tho quite costly.

Because of his age this will be Cam Johnson's one big chance to land a huge contract, so don't expect any discounts. He will likely be looking for RJ type money. As an RFA there will be some team willing to offer him that much, maybe Orlando. That would push Brooklyn beyond the tax line for next season, with something like 80 million going to Dinwiddie Simmons and Joe Harris, none of whom are likely part of Brooklyn's plans going forward. One candidate would be San Antonio. Brett Brown is an assistant coach there. I could see Popovich retiring if they don't land Wembabyama in the draft. SA could absorb most of Simmons contract. Knicks don't make sense as what Brooklyn probably wants most is salary cap relief.

Rather watch Zach Wilson start for the jets next September

Simmons game falling off the face of the earth wouldnt be my biggest concern. Its how he handles adversity. From what Ive read, very poorly. I dont see a player who has his teammates back.
Nalod @ 3/17/2023 9:19 AM
Simmons contract is a big issue for most teams. The risk-reward given his contract is difficult.
This guy got “soft” and fans tend to lose respect when the money is that high.
Perhaps if he is bought out, he goes to Siberia like Rocky did and trains in the frozen tundra to rebuild himself rather then dress himself like he auditioning to be the next Kardashian victim and then return with a vengeance that could be a cool story. Not vengeance for his critics, but for him to gain his self respect.
