Knicks · Hot Take: Julius is fairly even-tempered. (page 1)

NBA officiating is THAT BAD.

He handles it poorly, but better than I would.

I wonder how far off AI officiating is for the NBA. It can't come soon enough.

BTW, thread title is 27% facetious.

I was thinking, how many Randle “dislikers” would have worshipped at the alter of fiery hotheads like Mason, Oakley, and other Knicks of that era? Julius’s fire is sometimes manifested in him losing his cool. I don’t care for it either, but I’d posit it’s part and parcel of the very good to great player he has become.

Those Knicks werent as big a part of the offense, werent as important to the team's success. So when Randle cant keep it together, its one more thing that hurts the Knicks ambitions. That and his play in crunch time. Pointing this out may be uncomfortable for some, but its accurate. A lot rides on Randle keeping his head in the game.

Yes, we as good on most nights as far as Randle can carry it. When cool, he plays good defense, rebounding and astounding, and passing.

As for Mase, at one point he was our point forward and the ball went thru him. Starks? He was a major cog. Those two were bone heads at times and blew cool to the detriment of team. Oak? He punished the opponent and got his techs there.

That doesn't negate my point, just sayin'. He's a fire breather and the good may go with the bad, like it or not. I would like to see him cool out is also in my point but I suppose I'm also saying I can live with it. My take, my opinion.

BTW, this thing about opinions making others "uncomfortable" - does that apply to both sides of the coin? I really don't care about that stuff. This is a Knicks message board, I assume the big majority here are grown men. We're talking about basketball mostly. That's all it is. If someone, anyone can't get beyond that then that is...unfortunate.

The flip side to making posters uncomfortable enough about a bball opinion, to get personal. Is to not take a comment about a player personally. How I see it.

The players you named were essentially role players. A better comp would be Ewing or Melo.

Randle is starting to venture into Rasheed Wallace territory but yes I agree with Op the officiating in the nba has been a corrupt sh tshow for decades now and has gotten even worse recently with the spread of online gambling everywhere

That’s the issue. Randle is a better version of those guys (maybe not mason, that’s my bias). And those guys are 3rd and 4th options. For example, what if the offense ran through Oakley every game. He would struggle like and get techs like Randle.

So if I’m hearing you clearly, your saying Randle is on Oakley’s level? Which means Randle should be the 3rd option? Brunson the 2nd? Then we just need a superstar better than both of them, and randle will be the third wheel.

And like mason, Oakley, Kurt Thomas………randle can be his normal self but at 3rd wheel just like the old school 90s Knick forwards we mentioned. But as the MAIN GUY? No. And he’s been showing why since he’s been here. One more superstar that even randle knows he has to respect. I just don’t know who that is?

And I agree. If you want 57pts Randle, then you have to take 11 techs Randle. I agree and I’m ok with that. But not as the MAIN GUY.

How else could you look at that? Were they superstars like Jordan ? Were they stars like Payton or Stockton or Malone or Ewing? No, they were not stars, therefore they were role players. Effective ones nonetheless

We have a disconnect in semantics here. You're saying anyone who isn't a superstar is a role player. To me Ihart and maybe Jhart are role players. Mitch and RJ are starters, not role players. Oak, Mase, Starks were starters or played 30 minutes a game or more and contributed to a team challenging for the championship. Not stars, not role players but great players. But I can let go of all that.

All of which has nothing to do with my original point which is that Randle's fire is what makes him a very good to great player but also contributes to his acting out. An observation and interpretation that is not a defense necessarily.

Can't wait for the NBA to start using AI to make calls. And they better make the formula/data open!

Julius is helping the team to implode at the worse time (well, almost as we still have 7 games to go on a winning streak.)
If Julius chokes in this playoff, oh man. Value goes down again and we get more Thibs. Though management probably really tries for a big trade (again.)

Personally, I'd try to move on from Thibs and Julius and just remake the team but that is doubtful to happen. I'd like a more modern coach and consistent "star" who is mentally strong.

They werent Stars. They werent counted on to win the game.

Ewing wasnt really clutch in the playoffs. Remember those guarantees and missed finger rolls? Or what about Starks head butting, losing his cool. Or game 7 of the 94' finals All those missed 3s?

Why arent we focused mainly on those flaws when we remember these players? Because they won a lot of fing playoff games. They were in the heart of the fight.

What has Randle done(yet) to get the same love as those other former Knick greats?

Thats why there isnt the same nostalgia for the Melo years. Fans will treat Jules like an all time great when he has the resume. Right now one playoff win.

Really hope to see more. The best chance we have IMO is to find a star good enough to make Randle the number 3 option.
