I agree. But to be fair I'd put his 3pt shooting in. Can't just put the good stuff up.
I believe his attempts are down which is good.
Seems he is not gettng blocked at the rim as much. Using his body to protect the ball or get to the line.
RJ has played better —- most obviously his defensive effort has improved (no idea why).
His 3 point shooting is BAD - his % may be up because like Mitch he’s mostly shooting layups.
He is a weak spot on this roster — dribbling, passing, shooting still matter.
Now all that said - I sure hope RJ goes bonkers next 6 games and in playoffs.
This was very predictable...
Every year Barrett turns it up a notch after All-star weekend.
Im a true RJ apologist.
I like that he is not trying to go bonkers anymore.
I suggest look at his monthly splits and 10 game splits.
He is more consistant than thought. If I had to guess, he is being told to let the game come to him and dial it back.
If so, he seems to have picked up a stop and pop in the lane, a better right hand, and decent number.
The optimist in me says better days ahead, but he had to get consistent even if at a lessor level. Then build on that.
Will be increase his near 20ppg avg? If this is who he is at 22 this is not a bad base to work on.
D'andre Hunter is inconstant. he just plays for another team.
OG's splits? Nothing great jumps off the page.
RJ? Lets just say Im hopeful.
Sorry, I don't know what you guys are watching.
I'm just rewatching the second half of the Rockets game.
RJ makes terrible play after terrible play.
I just don't know how Thibs keeps playing him.
Knicks won *in spite* of him.

LOL< I did too! Was working out and thought I’d watch it. I fell asleep last night. I usually watch them later and fast foward.
. Your not looking between the bad plays. You saw him getting the line a bit?
Also, team was up how many point with him? He and Jules were passing alot.
He got sloppy as team was hot rodding before he subbed him out. Its ok, its not for us to debate and decide his fate.
It was a decisive win. Wow, all that young talent just out of their minds.
Silas signed on and Harden signed out.

HOW many times can he run into a defender and cough up the ball?!
Box score shows 3 TO. He had like double that. At least.

Knicks outscored the Rockets 71 to 54 the second half.
This has long become ludicrous.

Yes, as I said, in spite of RJ.

Give me 9 guys who score 71 points/+17 in 24 minutes and I'll take all the "in spite of" players you got.

The stat line is not accurate?
Oh, since you rewatched his TO’s, they were double!!!!
it's nice to see there is something that supports him, because my eye test is middling at best. I thought he had a more positive impact his first few years with us, definitely down the stretch last year.
This year it just seems like so many drives into traffic, bad lay up attempts, horrible shooting from 3.
RJ's defense has gotten a lot better too but he still has a lapse or two a game that makes my blood boil. I've said it before he needs to stop chasing 20 ppg with poor shooting and concentrate more on defense and playmaking.

I think this raises interesting questions about the war between the "eye" test and actual production. Through Monday Barrett is actually shooting a career low in terms of percentage of shots that are lay up attempts (.300 of his shot attempts are 0-3 feet, vs. .309 last season). But ON the attempts he's shooting a career hight FG%, by a significant margin (.654 vs .595 last year and his previous career high .605 the season before).
For comparison sake, Jalen Brunson is shooting .607 0-3 feet.
He's also shooting significantly better 3-10 feet (.384 vs .307 last year and his previous career hight .318 the season before).
Now that doesn't make either of those figures good, but "this year" it's actually a few less drives to the basket, and good or bad his lay-up attempts are falling as a significantly better rate any any time in his short career.
Yes, the horrible shooting from 3 is real, particularly lately, but the drives/lay-ups thing really raise questions about perception vs reality.

It's just cause he is getting less minutes and the hard covers are now done by Grimes and Hart
So of course RJ is gonna seem better
Correct.
2.6 mins per less.
Isn’t there some sort of sabometric we can come up with to argue RJ sucks like WAR?
RJ doesnt suck. He's just the left EFF% guy we have who also takes a ton of shots and is one of the team's poorer defenders.
He's young. Take out the emotion and the debate question is simple. How much longer do we wait for development before pulling the plug. His minutes are already down, it's usually because he's sitting in crunch time for IQ or JHart so it's happening.
It seems like he has cut down on 3s and been getting to the line more. Lots of good development over the past month or so. I thought he played well against a fired up Houston team that ran out of gas.
