Knicks · First Round vs Cavs - Best case scenario? (page 1)

Moonangie @ 4/5/2023 3:53 PM
I suppose the answer to this will revolve around JR's availability, but the way I see it, locking in the fifth seed and playing the Cavs (whom we obviously can handle) is pretty much a best case for us going into round one.

Thoughts on this challenge...risks...opportunities...depth of rotation...coaching adjustment...RJ's state of mind?

I haven't been this pumped for the playoffs since our 4th seed, and expect a MUCH different outcome this time with the steady leadership of JB helping us weather the storm. I may have to plunk down for tix at MSG this time around.

I think we have a much better chance with Randle than without. Notwithstanding the notorious Hawks series two years ago, I think his current game could thrive in playoff basketball. Note the offense will not depend on him - we have Brunson, IQ, Grimes as potent threats and double teaming him won't pay off like then. I am however very concerned he won't be up to speed with the ankle. In which case I feel we still have a shot and believe we would not go down without strong effort.
SergioNYK @ 4/5/2023 4:19 PM
If Randle plays and is 100% we can and should take Cleveland to 6 or 7 games. If Randle is gimpy or misses games or if he plays poorly like he did against the Hawks, we're could go home in 5 maybe 6 depending on how Brunson plays.

But we're the underdog in the series. Cleveland has homecourt, the best player in Spida and better defense. The regular season success against them doesn't mean much imho. We're going to need Randle and Brunson and everyone to play well and make it a series.

ToddTT @ 4/5/2023 6:15 PM
Best case is a sweep.

Worst case... any of those games goes into overtime. Ain't nobody got time for that.

franco12 @ 4/5/2023 6:25 PM
Knicks win 4 games to 1. That is my best case. Worst case is we take all 7 to advance and that hurts us in the next round.

This is like 99 when we took advantage of winning games on the road and wiped Atlanta with our speed.

I would like to see the Knicks and Sacramento in the finals.

Y'all challenging the basketball gods with these worst case scenarios.

Randle will play game one. Talked to my buddy who is related to a cousin of the girl that knows the maid. She said he is in.
Think Knicks know he is playing. Therefore the "Will be re evaluated" right before playoffs start.
Makes it harder for Cavs to plan for them. Huge difference with Randle in line up and more Iso than the Small lineup we have been showing recently. Randle will have good locker room wall material with what DM said.

We talking about the game or maid or what’s going on?

Knicks owned the Hawks regular season a couple years ago and then got clobbered. You never know, but we played Cleveland well and Brunson seems to get up against Mitchell. This will be a long amd very entertaining series IMo. That last Knicks-Cavs game was one of the best games to watch this season.

We owned them early, if memory serves me, and then their play improved dramatically mid season - meaning they were a much better team when we got to the play offs.

This year is very different - this is a different team from Josh Hart on.

Our records are very similar since the All Star break:

Cleveland 12 / 7
Knicks 13 / 6

I hate to Briggs/Jinx us - but I feel like we have the edge unless injuries impact players available.

Jimbo5 @ 4/5/2023 11:56 PM
Im hoping Jalen can replicate his post season run with the Mavs last year when he carried them while Luka was out. If Jalen can do that and the new "mid Three"(iQ, Grimes and Obi) can step up in Randle's absence. I think the Knicks has a chance to slip oass the Cavs in 7.
Philc1 @ 4/6/2023 9:36 AM
All pressure is on Cleveland. The media has been giggling about how Cleveland got Mitchell and we didn’t for about a year now. The cavs were supposed to be competing for a championship and the Knicks competing for the 10th seed

If SAS was stranded in the desert and I drove by I wouldn't pick him up.

I don't know why the prevailing media storyline isn't: If the Cleveland Cavs, after going all in with the Donovan Trade, don't sweep the Knicks, it's total failure for Cleveland.

SAS backed himself into a corner and its good for ratings.
Missing is what players would have been sent to Utah and would Josh Hart still been able to come.
In his world things have to be clearly black and white with no gray areas.
DM is a star and when SAS went on his first rant he, nor anyone really knew what Brunson was to become.
So lets not be overly judgmental. Its an act. He wins with Ratings and when you hate him, it means its working.
His rants get reposted.
I don’t disagree with SAS.
I dont’ agree with SAS. I ignore his act either way.
He has not turned his back on knicks over the years. I give him that.

Just a few weeks ago SAS says he would rather be and see Miami over the Knicks in the finals. This troll is no true Knicks fan!

Quickley alone gives our bench the edge. Our bench, a JB masterclass, and RJ’s shooting would swing this series in our favor. I think Randle is going to need as much help as possible against twin towers
