We already have the talent for a championship. I’m not even sure what to say next— all we have to is believe
Knixkik @ 4/5/2023 9:27 PM
Knicks have some good stuff going. They really need Brunson to continue to develop where we can convince ourselves he’s the superstar to lead this team to a title with the help from the rest of the talent.

You have to believe you can win. We have the talent and the mojo. The final team chemistry and believe is all we need. We’re good enough right now to beat any tens. No team is better— we have to believe that because it’s true.

Briggs bringing the UConn mojo and vibes. Someone else bring the beer and food

They're good enough.
They're smart enough.
And doggone it, people like them!

I believe its possible - if you keep RJ out of the lineup.

This is what im hoping for, for 1 or 2 players to take that step. During the trade deadline the consensus is the knicks are 2 superstars away from contending. This is the reason why they didnt pull the trigger on the Donavan Mitchell trade. With the cost of the trade being to steep they might not have enough to trade for the 2nd star! Now I think they can be just a superstar away from contending, provided that its the right superstar they go after. I think they need a two-way superstar like Jimmy Butler but preferably younger. Can that be Siakam? This knicks team can be deep! 3 complementary pieces putting up atleast 30pts each in the same game.

If the right superstar becomes available in the near future, im only willing to give up RJ, Fournier, Sims and Obi plus 3 1st rounders. Any combinations of these players. I love Obi but trading him out of the team is the only way he can truly spread his wings and have a chance to become a star. If the price is too high, im all for giving the young knicks a chance to develop into homegrown superstars. What this season has shown is that the this coaching staff can indeed develop players, can they turn them into superstars, I hope these young knicks have a change to show it in a knicks uniform.

Next year, i want both IQ and Grimes on this team.

Even if Randle was in the deal for a superstar, we would still have to give up IQ or Grimes. I dont see any FO not asking for at least one of those two players. Wouldnt you?

If its for Luka, I make the deal.

Why can the Lakers or the Warriors trade for AD or Wiggins while still keeping Poole in the team. Im hoping the knicks front office can find a way. I think the number of 1st round picks the send out can hopefully do the trick. Im hoping they can hold on both IQ and Grimes. If somehow they can see that Obi is good enough to be as impactful as Randle then Randle can be part of the trade. I still think the front office and thibs sees Randle miles ahead of Obi, the chance if them trading Randle will be slim to none.

I would like Luka to team up with Jalen here with the knicks but a part of me thinks he wouldn't be a good fit with Thibs. Siakam, mikal Bridges, Ingram or Jalen Brown? Will the Nets be interested in RJ? I dont see the Nets trading with the knicks. Can Zion pressure the Pelicans to trade for RJ?

What? In my best tony montana “ we don’t need no stinkin trades”

Guys we have the stars here— a bunch of them. We DO NOT need other players — we have the goods. The only questions I have are time and shot allocations. I have thoughts about starting iq at 2 guard. So that’s my question. I don’t need to go out to find other guys. It’s up to thibs to find the pt allocation. But the main theme is believe. Winning teams. Championship teams BELIEVE they can do it. KNOW they can do it. And we CAN. This is the time NOW. Live and win this f thing this year

Boston is the comparison, I think, where they drafted guys, built a foundation that developed.

I don’t know if we have the talent. I would like to see RJ turn into something that isn’t a disappointment for where he was picked. Grimes has come on of late, but I can’t say it’s because he figured something out or he is just getting hot against some teams that aren’t good and on the way to the exit interview at the end of the season.

JB really is the engine that can, along with Randle being a beast that moves players out of his way.

Stay healthy, play d, don’t go cold and we have as good a chance as anybody.

But we’ve had games where the other team lights us up from 3. Our OT record isn’t very good (look at the Cavs, I think they are undefeated in OT).

But back to the Celts- they finally made it last year, but fell short because their 3pt shooting let them down. I feel like this year, they’ve improved there and are on a mission.

Harden and Embid are healthy- did not think they would make it through a full season.

And the Bucks have the best record.

We won’t have to go through all three, just two- that is assuming we get through the Cavs.

This could be like 99 a little where being the road team helps take pressure off and we sneak out with one of those first two home games and hold serve.

I’ll be happy if we get by the Cavs and come back starting the year like we finished.

They are one SF away. Get one more wing like Hart and this team can do it. Blow the Raptors away on a trade for OG. A long defensive forward with low usage that shoots lights out from 3. They need bodies to throw out Giannis and Tatum to win.

Alpha1971 @ 4/6/2023 6:54 AM
The way Obi plays offense he is an offensive SF. I can't see why he can't play more at the 3. Defensively many of his critics will say would be a nightmare but I think he can do a good job

Most backup PFs play like SFs anyways. He fits the mold of a backup 4 to me. It’s a shame he just can’t play with much confidence in low minutes. He needs big minutes to play loose.

We have at least 2 other players that can back up the PF, iHart and Jericho, but only really with a different kind of center, one that can shoot.

1st round exit is in then. These jinx threads are surprisingly accurate in their prediction of the contrapositive.

We would need to win it over these next 2 yrs then. Cuz the tale t on rookie scale contracts will want to get paid and for some increased roles and touches.

The thing that I love about the current roster is that this could be the starting point for next season.

The Knicks traded for Josh Hart and his first game was 2/11. Give or take, that's about 1/3 of the season, ~25 games, so not a bad sample. At the time, the rest of the remaining schedule was one of the hardest rated schedules around and here is what the Knicks did:

Knicks are 3rd in overall record, 2nd in OffRtg, an abysmal #16 in DefRtg, #2 in Net Rating. And that'll be the starting point for next year? They don't have to figure out Fournier or Rose or rotations or new guys (if no trades). And I'd guess that iHart, IQ, Grimes will come back MUCH better next season (or for the full season). Brunson won't have the feel out process. Randle can maybe take another step towards less ISO ball. Obi can step up.

Quite frankly, I'd be happy without any trades happening until next year.

Times two. The Knicks have 4 guys that can go for 30 any night. Maybe Fournier even regains his 3 point accuracy. 4th quarter defense has been steady. There's not really any contract pressures coming up next season. Plus teams start to leap in the coaches 4 and 5 years. Lots of positives, I just hope Dallas finishes on a win streak!

Knixkik @ 4/6/2023 8:44 PM
I had been anti-Barrett trades, and in many ways I still am. I believe in his talent and think he will develop in time the way guys like Butler and Middleton did. He may just not break out until he’s 25-26. With that being said, I do think outside of an Embiid type trade which would require gutting the team for a player who still had a major injury history, the best way to maximize this group is to move Barrett for a better complimentary piece. Someone who is a better shooter and defender. The pie in the sky would be Anunoby or Bridges of course. But there’s probably other slightly lesser considerations like Jeremi Grant, Gary Trent, etc. guys who can score but fit more of that role player role. This team is being built around Brunson and Randle. And I believe Quickley can become a star. In a league getting smaller and faster, can’t rule out a lineup of Brunson, IQ, Grimes, Randle and Mitch, while a little small, being the answer if they find a star 6th man to replace Quickley. I just really don’t want to trade what’s required to get a top guy. I would love a guy like Jaylen Brown (I doubt Boston would trade him here) but I know that caliber of player, even not a top 10 guy, would still require trading Quickley, Grimes, Barrett and a million picks.
