Knicks · holy **** Brunson is a closer (page 2)

Its just good. Not for me, DM is just the better athlete.
You’re being a homer.
Brunson is certainly having a better series (obviously) but he is not better than Mitchell.
Knicks defense is doing a lot better job of locking up Mitchell than Cleveland is with Brunson.

It’s about finding ways to impact and win games.
Brunson has a track record in the playoffs against DM’s team.
You’re the DM homer who picked Cleveland in 6?
Case closed. When it matters our guy is the guy.
Don’t worry about it?

Have to consider the strength of the team around them. Right now Knicks have the depth.
Lets also be real, this is Brunson first season in prime time starter minutes in role. Not taking a damn thing away from him.
Playoffs matter, but I don't see Cavs being down on DM. He is not Lebron or super star that carries a team. Both make their team better.
maybe at the end of the day Brunson Brunson has a better career but DM is the better player?
Consider this, I believe JB has won as state chip in high school, won 2 at Villanova, one as college player of the year.
he keeps this up for 5-6 years, wins some award, and a chip, he might have some strong HOF Cred having won at all levels.
Remember, its "Basketball HOF", not just NBA.
Dm does a few NBA all team and some tacky productions numbers he might also.
Remember, Marbury was on track that was until he came to Knicks. Jeez, does Marbury get resurrected given his Chinese success???

Let’s be realer. Knicks are not at full strength, missing nearly 2 starters this particular game and Randle has been MIA but for 1 quarter in 4 games.
Brunson showed out against Utah without Doncic in several critical games against DM’s team. DM did not show up for that series. But yay for some nice stats? When is he going to show up when it counts?
Knicks figured out what JB should do on doubles and blitzes, but cavs and particular DM has not.
If we were guarding him w just JB who knows how many points he would get
This is the issue with playoffs. Have a chance to make the adjustments and so far Thibs has been better

You think he is 6'2"? I'm thinking it's maybe 6'1". Which makes what he does so much more impressive.

I dont think so.
This series aside, did we really believe that Brunson was a better player than Mitchell? Do we believe that now because of this series?
Love Brunson. Was one of the few that was on board with the Knicks signing him last season but if I had to pick one of the other, my choice is Mitchell, hands down.

Two years ago Trey Burke started over Brunson in a game seven playoff.
Brunsons ascent is wonderful and nobody is questioning he is paying too much.
All Im saying is what his is doing is freaking fantastic and I agree its not like he came out of nowhere.
As for “Spida”, perhaps his playoff performances are born from perhaps a team well coached and over achieving in the regular season and then in part disappointment and another just not as good a team as on paper as regular season depicted. Maybe had Gordan Haywood stayed and was healthy things would be differnt.
Really Brunson owned Utah for one series and it demonstrated what he could do.
Again, reality is Leon over paid for him and it was a beautiful thing that proved to be a bargain. Knicks utilized him better than did Dallas.
Basketball is more than a two man contest and Thibs has countered well by reducing Mobley/Allen effectiveness and forcing them to lean on Cav’s two very excellent 6-2 back court. What you are seeing is the very reason as much as I like DM, and wanted him, I was totally ok for it not to because Brunson was just signed and was not with a smallish back court. I did not envision Brunson being this good for a full season. Not sure anyone really did.
Lavert is not a complete player and neither is Okoro. Cav’s have to resign Lavert given the cap bind they are in and need him as a trade asset as well. Mobley is still super young and perhaps this team reaching the 4 seed was a stretch given the lack of depth and roster imbalance. But its one that should be celebrated by their fans even if a disappointment of sorts. At the end of the day Cav’s don’t have the pieces after its trade and that is was always my point of contention with the melo deal and was ok to stay away from DM.
This series also is about Mitch and iHart being stronger. They can’t match the physicality of them with RJ and Josh on both sides of the court.
Brunson and RJ on the big stage in a crazy arena not only did not wilt, but they florished! Brunson was incredibly cool and calm!!

Trey Burke had some game in him, we saw it in NY. Guess Brunson was still developing his game.
The Melo deal wasnt as bad as the DM deal Ainge put on the table because it didnt involve all those 1st round draft picks as well. Amare'e had half a great season before all the injuries piled on. Flu Tyson (great nickname btw) was also injury prone.
Melo had a chance to get some help when he signed his last max deal. But he wanted $$$ more than a ring.
As for Mitchell, its interesting that Ainge didnt want to keep him in Utah.

IM not blaming Melo or revisiting that again. And the price was different than DM. Im only talking the result on his first contract and the fact was we had one really good season from it built form retiring vets that was unsustainable.
Ainge knows that DM is not a franchise carrying player and keeping him would be a gate attraction but to rebuild around him has its risks too. Lillard is a better player and look how its been going there? 6–2 guards are cornerstones but not MVPs as they once were.
The question really is would Clev been better to have not made that trade? I get trading Markkenneenneeenneenn as Mobley is the future but they could have done other things with him and smaller deals.
But thats on them.
If they do that does Utah lower its price and take what knicks offerred?
Who knows.

Brunson is a legit 1/1A option on a title contender. He's one of the best closers in the league, right now. Still think we need an elite/star wing to pair with Brunson, but Jalen is a big piece to the championship puzzle for sure...
Everything at the draft that was dreamed up with Brunson and Hart coming into the league. They have pretty much translated all of it and more into the NBA. Amazing we have been able to eventually get them on the roster!!
