We own a top four protected pick of theirs soon, wowza

GA also is a practicing Orthodox Christian with ties to the Greek community and NYC has a large Greek community and many Orthodox Churches to attend. Maybe that will work in our favor

There is a path perhaps to knicks. Jules as part of trade is not crazy. Luka to knicks with Randle and Mitch Or IQ as pieces is not either if Kyrie bolts. But until June there is still game to be played. At the moment, we are “contending”.
Knixkik@ 4/28/2023 8:02 AM
Suddenly anything is possible with this Knicks team. If we were to hypothetically upgrade Randle to Giannis this is a contender. I still don’t see him leaving though. But less certainty is always good, and the Knicks own their 2025 pick lightly protected and a lot can happen between now and then.
Nalod@ 4/28/2023 9:04 AM
That pick is top 4 protected. Giannis has two years left but team is run out of pulp to improve and facing the tax man. Its an expensive veteran team. Giannis can extend with a handshake deal ok to be traded. 15% trade kicker falls on acquiring team. If he does not extend it could be telling. If he wants out, or if they want to retool he holds some leverage to where as he can used extending as leverage. Granted, not too many cities are worse than Milwaukee! NYC? He will either love it or dread being under that kind of scrutiny. Not saying he is not man enough, or "can't handle it", lets be real, if you don't crave the spotlight, are a peaceful man, he has two babies with his partner, and pretty much keeps it chill, can't say this speaks well for being a knick and the experience? Not sure I see Giannis as wired for NYC or necessary for his career. MVP and has a chip. Love for him to be here if he does and the price is not stupid.

this is exactly why I prefer trading for future firsts way out into the distance... so much can happen in a few years

"I think it is unlikely Giannis extends his contract this summer," said Brian Windhorst. "He does have two years left, but with everything that's going on with the team and considering there's new ownership that makes it very difficult.
"And the Bucks are heading into the repeater tax. This is what happens to teams who are contenders year after year and they spend. Everything on this team is about to get more expensive. Plus, we have new rules coming in that is going to limit the way they can improve this roster moving forward. They are a late stage contender with a superstar in his 20s.
"There are teams in this league watching very closely to see what happens with the Bucks this summer."

I had been sharing the undercurrent of giannis possibly leaving- everyone was very dismissive of this. Let’s see what happens though

Khris Middleton's going to be making 40M next season?! Ooof! I feel better and better about our contracts every time I look at another team's salary sheet.
fishmike@ 4/28/2023 11:31 AM
he's got 2 more years and then a PO option for $50mm ish and the team puts family member on the roster. Would be nice but do we wanna guy the roster for a 30+ Giannis?

Not I! Unless there is very low cost and he can play a supporting role.
I'd rather have Randle, to be honest, over Giannis.

that's madness... no you wouldnt. But you would rather have Randle/IQ/Grimes and 5 picks than Giannis... maybe

Yep. The roster would need a major renovation unless Giannis decided to play center. A Mitch Giannis starting lineup would have horrendous spacing. RJ would also probably have to go for more consistent shooting. It wouldn't just be five picks. We:d be in the same situation (asset wise) as the Bucks.

Well how about would you rather have Giannis at $45M or Randle at $25M?

Agreed here, 5 picks
nyvector16@ 4/28/2023 12:27 PM
With the new CBA, 50M on one player is not part of a winning formula. Supermax contracts kill team flexibility.
How can you win if you have 1/3 of team salary invested on 1 player. Only possible way to make it work is if everyone else is on Rolloe deals..

Let's review Miami's cap sheet cause it's just as fun: Lowry making $29M next year, Duncan Robinson $18M (plus 2 extra years at same rate after that), Oladipo $9.5M.
For comparison, Knicks have Brunson at $26M and way not as fat, Josh Hart will land around the $18M mark, and iHart will make $8M (to fill the same MLE slot Victor did).
Nalod@ 4/28/2023 1:31 PM
MIddleton on last year of contract. Player option. Had a bad season. They won a chip with him. They got their money's worth. We are about the future. Miami will turn Lowrey and Herro into Lillard. Those fuckers will torture us forever. And don't sleep on the Heat and think this is a party. I hope it is, but one never knows with them.
