We need IQ, Grimes, Obi and even Deuce to wake up in Miami

Go NY GO NY GO!!!!

I'M GOING TO SOUTH BEACH FOR THE WEEKEND SAINT PETERSBURG TO SOUTH BEACH WE HERE BABY!

gradyandrew @ 5/3/2023 1:40 AM
I felt like the Knicks got a lot of help from the refs to win this one. I think NY needs to go back to it's original rotation of starting Grimes and bringing Josh off the bench. Hopefully that does something for Quickly. If Quickly can't get back on track, I'm nervous about the Knicks prospects.
Jimbo5 @ 5/3/2023 2:15 AM
Im hoping the whole knicks team would be able to show up offensively the rest of the playoff run. If the knicks can find a way get everyone rolling they can definitely make a deep playoff run.
Nalod @ 5/3/2023 4:18 AM
My goodness this game thread was a trip.
The game was awful because some of you just want to see winning, not the art of the contest?
Heat get this far regardless of the lack of names and draft positions they should be respected.
This was how it was for years and year when heat are in playoffs. Some years they are good, some not so. YOu meet them in the playoffs they will drag you down and exact influence.

Thibs coached a great game. It was ugly. But the passing was there and keeping grimes fresh legs in the 4th mattered. He played great!!!
Randle ankle loosened up and he was great.
JB was not himself, but he came up big.
RJ you can see was struggling. HIs legs looked tired in the 3rd. Kid had a great game.
Great game! Heat took out Mitch somewhat and Isiah Hart was a wrecker!!!
WE go back to southbeach tied. Great series!!!!

Clean @ 5/3/2023 5:51 AM
Just noticed that if not for the Hart trade we would be a first round exit for sure. His production has been able to just barely hold us over while IQ and Grimes stink up the place. We need them to figure it out for a game or two and we can beat the Heat. We need useable vets next season to replace the young players if this happens again. We must be prepared for a situation like this.

Great game to watch and good game to turn off at spots. Lol
For those that don't appreciate a tough PF beast that demands double teams, you saw why you should last night. Randle as I have been saying is an elite physical PF.
Albeit, a "Wild" beast at times. It is something a chip team needs. We don't win the game without him.
IHart played great. Like Randle, brought the physicality. Beat up Bam all game and kept him under control. IHart is that big who does the "little" things a chip team needs. We don't win the game without him.
RJ was unstoppable going to the basket. Have always said he is elite getting to the rim. Also have said that if he makes his threes, he is an All Star. He was that last night. We don't win the game without him.
JHart is that glue guy, dog mentality player a chip team needs. He was also the "upgrade PG" I have been asking for all year, with his clutch shooting, last night. We don't win the game without him.
But MOST of all it was mother fucking Jalen Brunson. Kid is our MVP. He won't let us lose. Kid made big shot after big shot. Proving that last year was not a fluke. We definitely don't win the game without him.

Win was a quintessential team win! All around good game from our big three and a couple from our role guys. Need to figure out how to cool Miami's three point shooting. If they continue to make that many threes and Butler comes back, we will have a tough time moving on. Also need our bench, besides the two Harts to wake up. It was our strength during the regular season and now our weakness. A reminder to those that love the yoots but don't understand that the vets are the ones who can continue their regular season success into the pressure packed playoffs.

SergioNYK @ 5/3/2023 9:21 AM
A win is a win is a win. And if we were going to avoid the sweep and get one, last night was the one to get!

I thought for sure Butler was going to play so we caught a break there. But seeing that smug face waving at the crowd and flipping the bird at the end of the game really annoyed me! Give the cHeat credit. They gave us a huge scare. I thought game was over down six in the fourth. All credit to Spoelstra. He's the best coach in the entire league. I bet he can take the best twelve from ultimateknicks and prepare us to play our best and give us a chance to win! LOL He's the Belichick of the NBA imo.

As I stated before, it was going to take a Superman game by either Brunson or Randle to win a game and both were outstanding! Brunson especially had a gutsy game with 30 points. You can tell the ankle was bothering him. Especially on defense where he couldn't stay in front of anyone or rotate fast enough. He also didn't look like himself when he was driving to the basket but thankfully that jumper was on! Huge bounce back shooting the ball 6/10 from three after going 0/7 in game one! Fingers crossed these next three days off heal up that ankle!

Great game by Randle too! I like Obi a lot but he is no Randle. This guy was named an All-Star for a reason. I thought this was his best playoff game of his career. Loved the passing too! Especially that drive and kick to Hart for the three. He moved well and looked healthy. Great start to the game by RJ! We'd probably be down double digits if it wasn't for him. Great effort driving the ball and miraculously hit three threes! I was annoyed Thibs didn't let him finish the game but it was the right move. Hart made some huge threes and got some huge offensive rebounds.

Hartenstein is the unsung hero of the game. Huge offensive rebounds and great defense on Bam. Great move setting that pick to free up Brunson for the corner three where Bam ran him over making it a four point play too. I'd like to see more from IQ but he hit two huge floaters in the fourth. Grimes played good defense on Lowry but he needs to quit the quick hot potato passing as soon as he catches the ball. He's not Ntikilina! Grimes has shown he can put the ball on the floor and drive! He needs to look to be more aggressive! I'd also look to start Grimes over Hart if I were Thibs. We need more production from the bench! Let Grimes check Butler to start the game. We'll finish with Hart anyway.

It's time to start respecting and acknowledging Vincent. This kid can play. Brings back memories of Anthony Carter. Thibs needs to draw up some type of scheme to get the ball out of his hands and off that three point line. That's two straight 20 point games and 9/24 from three.

I'll be honest I don't feel great about going down to Miami. I guess we can steal a game there if all falls into place with some luck but we really need to make some major adjustments especially defensively. Miami looks too comfortable on offense. You cannot bank on us hitting 16/40 from three or outrebounding them 50 to 34 either. Plus Butler will be back. Guys need to ice those ankles and lower backs and Thibs needs to be in that dark room watching film cause we got our work cut out! But I'm glad we avoided the sweep!

Nalod @ 5/3/2023 9:28 AM

You get some TO’s with Randle but his are sometimes from passing out. Mitch missed and easy dunk trailing the play. It was a “good” TO.

StarJay kept us in the game the first half.

Love this team but again we don’t stand a chance unless quickley and grimes have some impact offensively. Considering what guys like Vincent and Martin are doing, it’s not asking a lot.

It's just an experience thing. IQ and Grimes will get there, maybe not this series or this year, but they will be huge soon.

Trio of Martin, Gabe Vincent and Max Strus? It's like their 3rd or 4th playoffs. Each has 4 years in the league too.

Knicks young crew will have their time soon.

100% and I think the Knicks would be hard pressed to win even 2 games in that series too

Chandler @ 5/3/2023 11:04 AM
i can't believe some people are griping about the quality of the win. Sheesh

Heat had Vincent AND Martin playing out of their minds, mimicking Steph and Klay (with better defense). If our team didn't show grit and resilience we would have folded when we down 8 and be down 0-2. Good for the Knicks for having some nads and playing tough

i was very worried in the first quarter because i was not seeing Jules at 100%. I thought he was still hobbled more than lackadaisical. Good for him for toughing it out

Going forward, I have to imagine Grimes, IQ or Obi (who was dogshit yesterday) will play more to par, and hopefully one or two of them have a good game or two, and i'd like to think Vincent and Martin will revert more to form.

Knicks in 7

Chandler @ 5/3/2023 11:06 AM

Separately, i thought Foster and crew did a much better job officiating than Tony Brothers et al., and not because we lucked out on the rim graze and the foul on Hart when JB hit the 3

i thought Brothers et al let the game get away from them with all the physicality only to be followed with whistles on touch (or ghost) fouls. Thought Foster et al. found a happy medium

yeah and Thibs got him out right before he could fumble passes, lose him man at the 3pt line or dribbling into the zone. He was playing GREAT but you could see bone headed RJ starting to poke out from his shell and Thibs said "Grimes.. you up"

Give credit to the Heat AND the Knicks. Heat executed a fantastic plan and stayed in the game. Knicks didnt let that beat them, stayed close and executed in crunch time. That's how it's supposed to look

Randle showed his value today. They ran the ball through him because Heat refused to let Brunson operate with space and I thought Randle sliced them up pretty well. To me he's why we win this series. We cant really stop Bam from doing his thing but he's GOT to deal with Mitch/Hart which leaves Jules free to do his thing while being covered by a wing.

I know Thibs loves Josh but he cant play him 48 minutes. We need a strong performance from the bench which we clearly arent getting. IDK how that changes.

I feel GREAT about winning a game or two in Miami

MaTT4281 @ 5/3/2023 11:40 AM
Relieved with the W, but pressure is on for game 3. I still feel like Miami has the momentum, despite the final last night which they can just say "oh well, we didn't have Jimmy". If they deliver a beating on Saturday, it's easy to imagine this snowballing.

They're looking like a well oiled machine. Nothing flashy, but the ball is moving well and everyone chipping in. They had immediate answers almost every time we hit a big shot (just up until the end).

------------

But credit where credit is due. Our big 3 took turns carrying us last night. Playoff RJ has been great to see. Was unsure of what Julius would look like in his return, but he definitely impressed. And Brunson does not stay down for long - cranked the star level up for the second half. Hart & Hart were our rocks.

Whole damn series could come down to who has the healthier ankles. If Randle played Game 1, I think we win. If Jimmy played Game 2, I think they win.
Who's going to be the literal last man standing?

Despite one being called in the beginning, there were still a bunch of missed defensive 3 second fouls missed. This is clearly a coaching maneuver because So is betting officials won't be paying attention or want to slow down the game with obscure technical fouls. It explains a lot. Knicks aren't a great shooting team and it forces them to be so.

Check out any other team in the playoffs and you will notice a big difference in defence. cHeat regularly have a guy in the middle of the paint guarding no one. No other team gets away with it.

That does a lot for the entire team. He still gets his 30+ mins per game, so I don't see the big deal. Knick fans love him, and he's playing with Brunson in an impactful role as a swiss army knife. But for the same reasons I did not like RJ and Randle together. I don't like Hart in that starting unit, as far as the offensive flow. But Thibs will figure out how to balance that out with his substitution patterns. Thibs is leaning on defense more than offense. The issue is Deuce is on the bench and hes our best PG defender on the team. Hart is better at guarding SGs and SFs. But there's nobody in the starting lineup who can guard quick PGs who can shoot.

This is why I felt IQ would've been a better replacement for Grimes. Then you have Hart passing to Grimes and Obi, which will get them going, especially Grimes.

blkexec @ 5/3/2023 1:10 PM
Pressure back on the Heat now.

Lets Go Knicks!

Glad RJ is playing well, we will need him.

Glad Hart his those big shots. We need his confidence high.

Brunson was the closer to carry us to a victory.

Isaiah Hartenstein was the MVP with his energy on rebounds, charges, etc.
He came into the game at the 9min mark. And he kept his fouls in check. Great game from iHart who looks like a solid keeper.
