Knicks · In the country’s largest media market - there is a stunning lack of Knicks print media (page 1)

Caseloads @ 5/4/2023 9:32 AM
When I was young(Er) there were almost daily articles in the papers on the knicks:

Nytimes
Post
Daily news
Newsday
Etc

Now it’s really only the post that is consistent - what gives?

Knixkik @ 5/4/2023 9:44 AM
That type of business is on its last legs. Papers are losing money. Not many people read newspapers even online. At least enough to pay for it.
Nalod @ 5/4/2023 10:32 AM
beat writers also are a thing of the past. When teams flew commercial there was a lot of free time and the writers traveled with players and go tto know them, and players trusted some more than others.
now writers have far less accessibility to the players.
Blogs are not great sources as they are opinions or thoughts from other sources. They look and feel legit.
Print news is a thing of the past. NYTimes is succeeding as a subscription service. You'll see less free content going forward.
Look for the sites like the "Athletic" to pick up were others left off. NYTimes owns them now.

I think there is a problem with the ultimateknicks news feed only showing Post articles

Martin, is this facts?

Philc1 @ 5/4/2023 4:05 PM
The NY sports media still thinks it’s 20 years ago and the entire world is obsessed with Yankees and Mets.
smackeddog @ 5/4/2023 4:42 PM
On the plus side, we’re now spoilt for great quality podcasts which can be funnier, more informative, more in-depth and less sensationalist/s**t stirring

Martin, is this facts?

I knew it! Martin couldn't resist the allure of Rupert's deep pockets. Probably angling for Tucker's old job. 😱

Its true, I found myself in a rabbit hole of reading Mike Vaccaro columns and then clicking through too "I'm a Hot Grandma" articles and realized I was seeing my Knicks world through a martin-lens.

Isn't Dolan at war with the NY Daily News for some reason that only makes sense to him? I think he restricts their access to players and just makes things difficult for them. If that is the case I understand why there is limited coverage.
Another thing to gripe about is these damn pay walls. I'll get to read 2 maybe 3 articles a week then NY Post articles are blocked by pay wall.

Yeah., I'm not paying for content I barely read when it was free.

So what do people read here for decent coverage of the Knicks? Blogs? I read Posting and Toasting, espn.com covg and these occasional post article, and anything else I get through the forum. We haven't had a good beat writer since Alan Hahn was covering for Newsday.
KnickDanger @ 5/5/2023 3:05 PM
I get the NY Post feed free on my Ipad - it's pretty good and thorough overall. Historically they've had the best Knicks and NBA coverage of all the local newspapers in my opinion. Daily News used to be pretty good but they charge for their feed so I have no idea about now. I read the various feeds on Knicks topics - some are just awful with the crap proposed trades as clickbait. Daily Knicks seems pretty good.

But you know where I go for the hardcore real stuff - Ultimate Knicks of course!

PhilC concise and accurate reporting really covers the team so well!
Why go anywhere else?

After that, NYMentality Power of Positive thinking!

Really, I do Hoopshype. Seems mostly vetted and legit from accreaded media. I walk the dog to Windhorsts hoop collective podcasts. I like the PodFather Bill simmons and Ryan Russillo.
UK home page gets the important stuff to the surface. Macri's Film school is diluted.

Fred Katz with the Athletic might be the best beat reporter around for now. For podcasts I listen to the Knickswall,Knickfanstv and KnicksFilmSchool. The Game Theory podcast is also pretty and they throw in some solid Knicks coverage from time to time. Knickswall also has some good coverage. I also like the Knicks of Time and NothingbutKnicks are also good shows if you can catch it on YouTube. Enyspree, who used to post here regularly, also gets some cool guests on his show, The DiehardKnicks podcast. There are bunch of other guys out there with their boots on the ground.

Fred Katz is great. And Jonathan Macri writes an excellent daily article.

I just watch the games. I gave up on ESPN years ago

SergioNYK @ 5/6/2023 9:10 AM
As a kid and teen getting all three papers every morning was routine! All while listening to WFAN on my walkman! Good times!
Vmart @ 5/6/2023 9:50 AM
I gave up on main stream media a long time ago. We live in a world of internet with pod casts there is plenty of Knicks material there.
GustavBahler @ 5/6/2023 10:59 AM
"Video killed the radio star", and the internet killed the beat writer. One benefit is we're seeing much more in depth analysis, game footage analysed. Hell, we can see plays broken down on twitter while the game is being played.
