Knicks · Good season (page 1)

A good regular season but now ending with a bad tasete due to this Mia series. There is hope and work still to be done by Rose and management team. I want to find out if the Euro guy can contribute and upgrade the 3 point shooting. Robinson needs to develop an offensive move.

I suspect guys are injured more than they are saying. Randle has been subpar since his ankle injury and now Brunson's shot is off.

Nalod @ 5/9/2023 9:10 AM
Knicks are giving it everything they got. To now its not enough.
Miami was missing Lowrey most of the year. Without Herro they are finding other guys to get in rhythm.
Love go to them late and had to get in better “Heat” shape. Quite impressive turnaround.

All in all we are in a good place. Exceeded most expectations, have solid amount of assets for flexibility to improve. Need some tweaks for a better balanced depth chart.
MaTT4281 @ 5/9/2023 9:27 AM
Only one team gets to finish the post-season with a win.

Definitely a successful season when you look at where we started. We've got pieces locked into place now where there were big time question marks one year ago. The PG question is over with Brunson. Randle returned to All Star form. Hart 100% a Thibs player and top tier glue guy/defender - just what we needed to make this rotation sing.

I'll go one step further - successful post-season too! We won a series, saw RJ right the course in a lot of areas, and gave (at least) 10 games worth of playoff experience to our guys. Thibs has made adjustments along the way, happy with his coaching performance, but just tough to overcome this atrocious shooting, especially when your big guns are running around on 1 1/2 ankles each.

Absolutely deflating last night, but I'm back to looking forward to game 5. Not necessarily optimistic on extending the series, but at least as a swan song to a fun and exciting year.

We are in great position. And the front office should feel like it’s time to take a step forward. We should expect the majority of this team back but some upgrades as well.

Good isn’t good enough.

FO has some tough decisions to make this summer. Priorities need to be maintaining cap flexibility and acquiring young assets and/or picks. It should not be overpaying to extend players who are non factors cone playoff time

franco12 @ 5/9/2023 1:22 PM
At least we're not Cleveland!

I didn't think we'd make it to the playoffs.

Disappointed to be getting run out by Miami.

Hope the FO can make another Rabbit from Hat move like they did with Hart at the deadline.

Let’s hoist that “Good Season” trophy. Might as well be a participation trophy they give to everyone now a days.

Incremental growth is valuable. The team has flaws. And upside. The vet teams in the playoffs are finding ways to win regardless of seeding.

This team did exactly as I thought they would in the season. 47-35 is a good season for us.

I thought they outperformed by making it to the second round. I think they are getting valuable experience in the playoffs, even though they are getting their asses handed to them. They are beaten up and have given 100% all season, wire to wire.

It's a good season.

I usually agree with you, but outside of a few players, this team is looking totally defeated and unmotivated, imo.

ESOMKnicks @ 5/10/2023 3:31 AM
The series with Miami has looked pretty one-sided, but I hope a second round defeat will not trigger a knee jerk reaction from our FO to make wholesale changes. Right now our team looks pretty well-balanced and deep. We are lacking guys with a takeover mentality, capable of stepping up and dominating in the post season. Someone like that may end up in our lap via trade, or someone from within, like RJ, may take the next step and get to that level.
So, unless someone of Giannis's caliber becomes available to us, we should be content with our upper-echelone mediocrity status and hope that we can improve/upgrade to a borderline contender status. Short of a complete rebuild and overhaul, this looks like our ultimate ceiling.

Our fanbase has been conditioned by lazy ESPN mockery for two decades to now celebrate no longer being the worst team in the nba

This is what a team looks like when they are “Spent”. Randle and Brunson are fried. RJ has stepped up to be efficient. He had a really good game monday. He is not being asked to carry the team nor should he.

Its possible we find another gasp and Heat go into “spent” mode. they have had a very hard few weeks but seem to be getting better and better.

I think a 47 win year after last year and series win deserves a “participation” trophy of sorts. it was a good season. As Giannis would say, “its not a failure”.

MaTT4281 @ 5/10/2023 10:23 AM
Anyone coming into this season with a "ring or bust" mentality has definitely chosen the wrong team to follow.

Not classifying anything as a failure, but this showing is very poor.

And can you clarify what you mean by spent? I know what it implies, but guys like Obi, IQ and Grimes should be 1000 miles from "spent"

VDesai @ 5/10/2023 10:56 AM
The arrow is pointed up. The core is under 30, are on extremely team friendly salaries. We made a +10 improvement in wins. It has been a good season. This is a confusing ending considering how good we were vs. Cleveland to be this pushed around vs a Miami team that looked tired and old most of the year. That said this Miami team just whipped the best team in the league right before playing us, so we're not the only ones in that camp. Milwaukee has to be dissapointed, but that doesn't mean that they don't start next year in a great position to win the title.
nyvector16 @ 5/10/2023 4:21 PM
There are upsides to the downturn in the playoffs:
  • Quickley will have a much more reasonable contract extension, which helps team flexibility long-term
  • Toppin has put enough doubt into the conversation where his potential is now a thing again, making it easier for the Knicks to sell his value in trade talks
  • Every single player on the roster is better for having experienced the playoffs
  • It is finally clear to Mitch that he MUST work on his free throws this offseason, no excuses
  • Hoping team learns that ISO everytime is not a strategy...
  • This team is absolutely primed for a large trade... Knicks will have another big name on this roster before next season starts
