Knicks · Knicks not extending Scott Perry (page 2)

Thank God...6 seasons too long. Another example of the "Peter Principle"

Perry inherited a washed, disgruntled superstar. A young star 7ft center recovering from major surgery, and demanding to be traded. Few picks, assets to speak of.

When Rose took the job he had cap space, a surplus of draft picks. A future All-Star signed for practically nothing. Drafting an elite rim defender rebounder. Tanked for the third pick, our highest pick since Ewing. RJ has led in availability from that draft, and he's starting to show that he has more game in him.

Please name the last GM who left the next regime in better shape? Better poised to get back to contention?

Leon extended Perry for 2 years as a continuity move. Perry was OK but loved his former guys like ELF a bit much and the Knox draft was a class A phuck up

it is possible Perry did not want to be extended - we will see if he lands somewhere else- like Washington.

I think he did a pretty decent job. I mean, we can't really know what he did or didn't do, was vetoed or compelled to do as far as moves go.

I always land there. No idea how certain moves get pinned directly on people.

Perry whiffed on Knox but he also got Mitch in the second round which was a brilliant pick in the same draft. Also drafted RJ and signed Randle after getting back as much as he could for an already declining KP

4 rings in a decade plus worth of work. 6 finals appearances. Both of those guys were nowhere near where they are now.

Your hot takes dont even know what accomplishment means.

Myers had nothing to do with drafting Curry or Thompson. He did draft Draymond Green I’ll give you that. KD is a front running wuss he was signing to play second fiddle to Curry no matter what and then he left Myers btw

You are good with the obvious. Thanks for pointing those out.

Perry was at the end of his contract.

I dont understand the thinking behind the second bolded part, it doesn't make sense to me.

Just saying it is interesting timing. Myers leaves then all of a sudden it comes out Perry is gone. I don't think it's any relation, just seems weird.

As for the second part, guys like Barrett, Mitch, anyone that was brought in with a tie to Perry, I think it just increases the chances they are moved. It's common thinking when letting a GM or coach go. Their "guys" are not held as dearly by the new guy coming in.

Happens all the time at an end of a season.

Why is this line of text so outlandish? A supposedly (depending on your view) excellent GM walks away from Golden State and within a day, if not hours, it is leaked out that Perry will not be offered another contract (his contract still hasn't run out), and it is leaked out, mind you, by one of the most tight lipped front offices in the NBA.

Yeah. Nothing weird or interesting about that.

KIngs had hired Perry as assistant GM and he was there for like 2 months when Knicks came calling. NBA has a thing that if you offer a promotion teams let guys out of their contracts.

A team like knicks were there have been many consultants and “voices” on staff, its hard to pinpoint who is to blame or credit.
But Myers has been in GSW and while lady luck has much to do with alot, there were some very savvy moves getting the right role players to support Steph. There was also a time when his ankle was chronically bad and he was given a contract anyway. Getting Iggy and able to pay him, Bogart, the Wiggins deal was brilliant, and so many that add up. Getting the cap space right to sign Durant, etc. The guy was the architect of much that happend. If it was that easy they have one more the 4 titles. This was done with rules that promote parity. Might be the last “dynasty” we see for some time.

Perry was part of a process that signed Randle. Signed Morris, and traded him for the pick that became IQ. They drafted Grimes. They drafted Mitch and paid him with a 4 year deal and developed him. Knox did not turn into a good pick. RJ was a no brainer.
GM’s hire guys too as part of the job. Perrin? Aller? Etc………He oversees the staff.

It not always about who made what decison or gets blame. Aggregate results. Leon is the boss. Perry reports to him. The business side reports to Leon. The baskeetball side reports to the GM.

Not all teams have the same lines of authority.

My guess is Perry extended two years ago and it worked well. Curious what his next move is.

He has lots of ideas. No front office experience and has been out of the inner circle for some time.
Stan at least did the gig. Did it badly and was one of the few coach/Gm/Pres to end the era.
We all love JVG.
Between Rosas/Aller/H20 I think we have it covered.
My guess is Rosas who is a consultant might be the guy if he passes the muster of scrutiny due to his indiscretions with his extra marital affair.
Be surprised if there was a big name enroute to take the gig. Myers? Seriously doubt it. Why the coincidence of his announcement and Perry?
Maybe league said to make the announcement prior to start of finals?
Like I said previously, he might want some equity somewhere.
As for rebuild? The pending tear down? The might have happened sooner because its up the owner to set the direction of the team. Not an employee. Each team has its own agenda and who sets it. Sometimes its financial first.

Massai Ujiri deal is 15mil per and has "equity like" incentives. Its not seen anywhere the length of the deal and it might be open ended.
No rumors about. The Wizards might have been mentioned but someone is always writing something.
The closer one gets to Free agency and the draft the more unlikely any will move. Myers leaving gives clear line that he won't be the guy to get calls and for now Mike Dunlevy jr who has been handling a lot will assume at least on a temporary basis. Owners son is very involved and perhaps Dunleavy becomes the face? Who knows.

If Perry has plans one would think sooner than later it happens.

If one wants to better understand the roles and who is in it just go to the league site.
