Knicks · Year of the ankle… (page 1)

People literally saw him badly sprain his ankle twice and still want to trade him based on his playoff performance. Moving him for anything less than another all-nba level talent would be a big mistake.

Absolutely.

Grant Hill says take care of that.

You good with me.

I thought he was more injured than was known at the time. I think after the initial injury he only had one game where he was his normal self.

That was Al Stewart's original title, before he changed it to "Year of the Cat".

Randle looked healthy on offense, hurt on D. I dont doubt Jules was hurt. More about how he used what he had in the tank. His strategy.

People on Twitter want to trade Randle and 3 first round picks and 3 swaps for Towns. Its a lateral move at best. Hopefully Randle comes back and plays at this level again. I hope we don't get another down year.

Papabear Says

I only wish we would have given Obi more playing time instead of maybe Randel having a more serious injury. You know Thibs will play a player in the ground

jskinny35 @ 6/4/2023 1:21 PM
Can we trade Randle's brain and ankle - he is physically strong and has heart... so the rest are worth keepin
ESOMKnicks @ 6/4/2023 2:16 PM
Ankle sprains can be very nasty and take a long time to heal. Plus the risk of aggravation when playing on a bad ankle with nerve endings that have been damaged and no longer provide the necessary feeling of spacial balance.
JR wanted to be a hero and play through this nasty injury, but ended up only making things worse for himself, now that a surgery has become necessary. Was it worth it for the ungrateful fan lot that we are?

Good question for thibs. Just because Randle says no I’m good, are you still going to leave him in games? Randle is clearly not the type of person who will sit when injured or manage his own minutes.

His body language is just so bad that it looks like he doesn’t care and that’s what everyone remembers, along with his press conference.

But, it should not be forgotten that without him gutting out game 1 vs the Cavs we likely lose that series.

He didn’t bring it up as an excuse and you have to respect it.

Also keep in mind only 11 players have made all NBA in 2/3 seasons, Julius was one of them.

It’s too bad we didn’t have him at full strength because he was finding his rhythm in game 5. Series looks a lot different with him healthy.

get that weak shit out of here... actually no, I'll explain it to be helpful.

When you are on offense you get to go where YOU want and make the moves YOU want. That allows an injured played to be more choosy about certain moves that might aggravate an injury. We call this "favoring" one body part or another.

However on defense the player is totally reactive and has to stay with an opponent. This does not allow an injured player to favor said body part. It's also why offenses "go at" injured players.

But hey... you can always switch the narrative to this being a result of Thibs overplaying him at some point or another. Cmon.. you know you wanna (if you havent already )

Feel bad for Jules, but Knicks are lucky they have him locked up a bit before the question of a new contract comes up.

His body language speaks volumes.
Last season was pretty bad. This year better but the issue is when things are going well its great.
When not, he cannot hide his frustration and it looks bad.
I give him a pass on a bad ankle. Not every one is Jimmy Butler and mask the pain as he can. Fatigue from pain and along season drains so much and we put emphasis on pressors way too much. Look how the world jumped on Lebron after they got swept. he hung 40 on a losing effort on a bad foot. yet we slammed him for being an attention whore, etc. The man gave it all and was deflated and we said he needs to look at this off season. I don’t hate him and thus don’t tilt to dissecting it in the worst manner but to me it was a very humanistic response and I had some empathy for how exhausted he was.

As for Randle, he looked drained and spent. We now see he needs surgery perhaps to clean up fragments, and give room for it to heal. We don’t know for sure. But, perhaps some kudos to that he tried to play on it.
Perhaps is Obi stepped in and killed it Randle could have sat more? Maybe?

"Weak shit" is you becoming menstrual every time I say anything remotely negative about Randle. I've played many games on bad ankles, what you said is complete BS. A bad ankle doesn't instantly turn you into a one way player.
