The road goes through Denver and only one of them can draw Jokic out of the paint.
None of the above would be my choice, but if forced to take 1 it would be KAT. I honestly don't trust any of their health at this point to validate the salaries they command. Not sure why that make KAT the choice, but he is closer to unicorn status than the other two. Pretty much hard pass on all three though.

Feel like I'm in the same bucket.
And KAT is really the only guy someone on staff has a good enough or long enough history with? And then maybe Thibs and staff can remind KAT what he did defensively at Kentucky?
You have to move Randle and Mitch and extra for KAT? And then maybe Minny does something with the Gobert/Mitch mess?

we have to get to the finals first! And we were right there this year - so, which player can we slot in that costs the least in terms of existing assets/players?

This recent news item would have us give up Fournier and RJ Barret for Beal and assorted draft picks.
I would definitely trade regular season RJ, not so sure I would after his play in the playoffs this year- maybe he does have upside and he is much younger than Beal.
If I am trading for Beal, I'm wanting to keep RJ, Randle, Brunson, IQ - and add him to that mix.

With Beal and Brunson, Knicks will literally need to build some sort of Chinese wall that surround the paint cause that'll be the sieve'iest backcourt ever.
I like Beal next to JB and perhaps he comes cheap. That contract is a big one.
EF contract does move the dial but not halfway there. How that happens, thats a different story.
KAT for Randle is interesting study. Kat is a 4-5. Randle is a 4-3. By that, his ball handling duties lend itself similar to a wing player. Does Kat Skill set vs Randle make others more efficient? Does it free up RJ to hit his ceiling? We have discussed that Randle/RJ dynamic is “Challenged” as a fan base. Kat played 29 games this past season. I need more than “playing closer to home and CAA”.
LaVine as a stand alone talent is substantial. His age, the knee and contract are all concerns.
All these guy currently are top tier contacts but are not delivering on them. Randle contract is an outright bargain which should not be ignored. It allows the team to do other things.
If RJ could shoot better he’d be a facismile of Beal. Big strong kid who can play two positions.
Perhaps of the three none are great fits. Lavine and Beal are impediments to a rebuild. Wizards won’t say it but no team tells its fan base they will. If they want to move Beal they have swallow less than full value.
Knicks are prime for a consolidating trade. KAT seems to gain the most traction but lets be honest, WOlves ownership is just one year in, Connelly the long term GM who build Nuggs is running it and made the Gorbert trade. That ownership wants to make playoffs and be a factor NOW. Its not Connelly’s call. They hired him to do the job they want. Giving up on Kat after one season after what they paid for Rudy? We don’t talk about Ant Edwards as much and thats the big question they have their. Is he the generational talent they hope he can be?

Don't exaggerate. Kemba/Fournier was worse.
No to all of them, anything for ant edwards
For reference, Beal is about to turn 30.
Next 4 years: $47M, $50M, $54M, $57M.
Also, last 4 years played: 57 games, 60 games, 40 games, 50 games. Wizards last 5 years (yeah yeah Beal not responsible for all of it): 32 wins, 25 wins, 34 wins, 35 wins, 35 wins.
Randle is a fucking BEAST compared to someone like Beal. Contract, team wins, durability.
Id be up for moves that Bring Beal and KP to NY. KP has a history with Beal and Brunson.
The new GM for the Wiz apparently has a green light to do a complete rebuild.
I’d go KAT because he offers the most upside. But there would have to be significant roster changes whereas Beal or LaVine could just replace RJ and you can keep everything else the same.
I don’t think we need to go that route.
Need a little more offense from the center spot and one more defender and a shooter. IHart is very solid and a tremendous backup, but he’s valuable in a trade for a shooter, is Jericho ready?
Can you get Brooks at a good price for the bench? Donte is likely the guy we bring in for a little 3 point help off the bench.
I don’t like the idea of going all in on flawed players. Beal is the worst contract in the league, Towns can’t handle NYC and Levine is one tweak away from Allan Houston. Time to move away from the mistakes of the past.
There is a trade for a rotation player out of there that is fringe All Star level. Let’s be patient.

I think the point of trading for one of these players is we won’t be going all in. It won’t require mortgaging the future like it would for Embiid, or like it would have for Mitchell last summer. There is argument you can buy low on one of these players if you believe they can excel in a new location. Remember, KAT and Beal have both played for one team and those teams don’t have the best track record for having a good culture.
title of the thread should start "Choose your poison"
I don't want any of these guys for different reasons. Why not throw Lonzo on there -- after all wasn't he the desired choice last year?
None of the above. I clicked Beal because there was no option but the three presented...but I don't want Beal's injury-plagued body on the Knicks. KAT doesn't move the needle for us and would be a defensive downgrade.
I have it in the back of my head that the Knicks FO will have at least one planning path that leads to Donovan Mitchell again.
When a high level free agent all but tells you he wants to be on your team, even if it is still maybe a year or so out, you listen and plan.
IF, and this is a big if, the Knicks start to look to build a team that could offer a defensive balance to a backcourt like Brunson with Donovan (ie, lots of defense and/or spacing at the 3, 4, 5), then that'll be a thing.

If I can get Beal and add him to the core, I'd be ecstatic getting 50+ regular season games out of him. I'd hope a reduced role would keep him in more games and fresh for the play offs.
Post acquiring Hart, this team was really good. We came up short because of an ankle and a lack of scoring punch.
Obi, Rose, Fournier should be all it should take, maybe a rando draft pick.
The money is awful. In fact, for taking this contract on, I should be getting something more from the wizards, like a draft or some young talent.
You definitely mess up your future flexibility alot.
But, if you had had Beal at the beginning of our play off run, minus Obi, Rose & Fournier, are we playing Denver instead of Maimi?

do we really want Donovan "too small" at SG after his poor playoff performance several years in a row?
