There’s a lot of talk around the internet about moving him. He’s probably the most unappreciated current all-nba player in the league. In 4 years he’s been twice an allstar and twice all-nba. He’s one of the most double teamed players in the league. A guy who gives 25 and 10 and gets double teamed like him isn’t easy to replace. He struggled in the playoffs. Year 1 he was overwhelmed and didn’t have any help. Tried to force everything. Year 2 we saw him badly sprain his ankle twice which required arthroscopic surgery, yet people still say that wasn’t the reason he underperformed in the playoffs. He’s provided the necessary scapegoat for the fan base. Move Randle to get Toppin starting minutes, so on. We know what would be the result if that happened. Randle’s biggest faults are his emotions on the court and being over utilized due to lack of options around him until this season. He’s probably best suited as a #3. But until he proves to me he can’t be a #3, I want to stick with him. You never have to worry about him getting in trouble off the floor or not working hard. And there’s no question that in the 4 seasons he’s been here, the franchise has gradually improved in all facets. Product on the court, respect around the league, overall culture. Randle is a main part of that.
agreed. read some snips from his recent interview and it was all good
Randle’s still in a cast. I wonder how everyone is going to feel when he has another one of his seasons where his numbers all drop off.

You don’t think Brunson will make a difference in that regard? Remember when he fell off he literally had no PG. It matters who is on your team.

burn his house down we will!
Im sure there will be those who will be very happy to be loud and proud to remind everyone that despote two allstar appearences and ALL NBA whilst on a very reasonable contract and one that gets more reasonable every day, will be happier to proclaim "I told ya"!
For some fans "being right" is more more important then the games.

even more of a reason to run it back and keep developing the young guys. Randle's coming off ankle surgery and must see his work load reduced. Strikes me as a GREAT opportunity for Obi to increase his role and value in a contract year.

Come on man, you already know how short sited knick fans are. Love you one minute, trade you the next. All in the same breath. (It's all in love)
He’s under appreciated only with the fickle NY fan base.
Just a year ago, we had folks, on this site, calling to trade for a bag of peanuts, just to see more Obi and promote RJ has #1

Reported that he is supposed to be ready for training camp. For me, my outlook has changed.
Brunson / _____ / _____ / Randle / _____ I'm building around this in my head now.
I'm not sure we have exactly the pieces we need yet, but Randle proved a lot to me this past year. He is making the improvements. He is playing with heart. And I think he can be a part of a championship team. Now, all the blanks are not meant to disrespect any other players on our team, but they have certain weaknesses that they need to improve on before I mentally commit that they are the long term solution at their respective positions. And I could fit another high caliber into those blanks maybe in a manner that better fits next to these guys. Or another player from our bench. For example, if you told me Barrett and Grimes are on their way to Brooklyn for Mikal Bridges, I don't think we are worse with Hart and Bridges. If you had to trade Robinson to Toronto for OG, I don't think we are much worse with Hartenstein and Sims. But, I don't think you can replace Brunson and Randle at their respective positions, dollar for dollar.
And they should come into this season with a ton of confidence that is well deserved.

Bill simmons had his yearly trade value ranking and Randle isn’t even on the list. An all nba player still in his 20s making under 30 mil a year.
He has grown on me. In 2022 I would have given him away for a bag of balls. Now I'm defending him. Now I see how stupid I looked with my trade proposals just to get rid of him.

I don't think he is suited as a 3 but besides that its all facts.

I agree. I'm terrified of a bad trade that destroys years of work

Then maybe not as a number three, but part of a better top three with someone really stepping up on the wing. Or even a center that can score more than ZERO PPG. Its great that we have good defense from the Mitch/iHart platoon, but we need a better complement there. One of them + a more versatile player.
And totally happy that I'm not seeing the idiot salary dump/second rounder BS trades were flooding this site last offseason.

That list is broken, although I do appreciate the fact that he has Brunson at 21 and he plunked RJ in at the bottom.
Brunson at his price surged in so many ways. We were a little queasy when we signed him and now worried in two year we gotta max him.
Good problem, not gonna sweat that.
Randle not on the list? He too is polarizing. Knicks are better with him but the iso makes all losses look worse.
RJ? Kid been pouring in 20 for nearly 3 of 4 seasons improved in all ways but not at the same time. Thus, he too is polarizing to some fans.
And, there is the "been here 4 years and was 3rd over all pick". Expectations are high for him.
Obi at the 8 does not get that distain. His contract is not up there, and we can blame Thibs for the "Hook".
His name is "obi"!!! nobody dislikes anyone named that and dunks, and has a nice smile.
RJ, has the half moon eye like "Look like I don't give a fuck face" at times.
If we extend IQ, and he does not surge in play, we'll hate on him also!!!!
Act like we the ones writing the checks.
Sounds like the "Dear Mama" remix

I think I listened to the same podcast and I thought Randle was on that list…I think he had him twenty something. Could be wrong.
In any case…I enjoy listening to B. Simmons but he comes off has bias towards the Knicks, at times, and his opinion changes every week.

It’s on The Ringer. Randle didn’t make the list which is insane. Probably the only allstar/ all nba player not on it and he’s cheap compared to others. Brunson was 21 though and Barrett was around 60.
