I’d like to see grimes especially play less rigid and less of a 3 and D role - more of a ball handler and driver - just all around offed game
There is only one ball. Between Brunson, Randle, RJ, IQ. Already have 4 guys who provide this. While of course you want complete all around players so it doesn't hurt for Grimes to round out his game to become a complete player. But as long as these are the pieces he plays with. Molding into 3&D is what's best for the team as we are lacking in that area to begin with.
Not that Thibs holds players back. Its that the roster isn't complimentary to each other. Same thing for Obi. Obi gets knocked for standing around the 3 pt line. But he does this because he is trying to fill in the 3 pt shooting gap we have due to the teammates he plays with. Mitch & Hartenstein aren't going to hit 15fters or threes. So its a lot harder for Obi to get those PNR looks over our centers. As their man can sag off them to cover the paint etc. Obi instead has to be the one to stretch the floor for them since he is more capable shooter out of them. But at the same time this won't maximize what Obi brings to the table offensively.
Obi ranked as one of the worst defenders in the NBA this season. That has absolutely nothing to do with This.
Toppin allowed opponents to record 56.3% effective field goal percentage as the contesting defender. That ranked 292nd among 312 players to contest 300 shots per Second Spectrum.

Could have gotten out of EF also - guy looks like Jordan when he plays for France
no he got MOST out them they could. Next year will be more (if they all stay)Im being silly... literally how are you quantifying that statement? You just watch and when Obi/RJ/McBide are clanging 3s and making low IQ moves you just know it's the coaching?
Its the starting to get good circle jerk...
1 We need a better coach our players suck
2 hey we winning. I like these players
3 why arent these players winning more
4 must be the coaching helping them back
5 we need a new coach
Try not to rationalize or over-think it. To me this is just a "Get Rid of Thibs because he plays Randle too much" thread in disguise.
We won ten games more than year before. Brunson made a difference, but even with all the "RJ Needs this", Or "Obi needs that", and "Grimes should be".......
We won more than expected.
Blame? Kudos?: KNICKS!!!!!
Offensively Grimes, Obi and Mitch have a little more potential. With some motion, back cuts, speeding the team up more guys would thrive.
Thibs was not creative this season. We have a lot of very solid talent, he needs to find a way to reduce the minutes on Brunson, Randle and keep everyone fresher for the long term. If he breaks up RJ and Randle and allows the all to move and not stick this team will definitely be better.
More development and more shooting practice for the guys is really what we are missing. Everyone needs to get their percentages up a little.
Nothing wrong with McBride, Grimes, RJ, Obi, Mitch lineup occasionally.

Nor should he be because his players weren't ready for it.

With Randle pushing him around on the bench and Obi checking him in the locker room, Thibs is to busy fighting for his life. Forget writing plays. He's writing his will.

We have a winner
This is why I love Jacobs upside over Obi. Jacob is already a better defender and he hasnt played one single nba game.
In fact Jacob reveals that Obi can’t guard him. He said he simply drives by him. Obi is stronger but there’s no path as a backup PF under thibs. But Jacob can defend guards and SFs. Two positions we’ve seen changes in all season. And there’s no 2x all star in front of Jacob so he has a path to impact this team eventually. But as long as Randle is here I don’t see that path for Obi.
