Toronto needs a pg. Young pg for a wing, not really going to include many picks, maybe a few picks. Brunson, Grimes, OG, Julius, Mitch. Bench Dante, Hart, RJ, Heart, Situational bench Obi, Sims, and Deuce.

IQ is better than OG

But is Dante and OG better then having IQ ? I have no idea but if the team signs Dante IQ or Grimes is being traded

Keep the youth. Stats show that grimes and iq are very valuable

Can start in a pinch at SG in case of injury.

Coming out of winning environments from Villanova, Milwaukee, GS.

In all honesty, I want us to collect all the Jay Wright-era Villanova guys. I view them as kinda like the Infinity Stones; get them (as well as Embiid) and we Thanos our way to a title.

Yup. If we get donte, all that’s left is Lowry and bridges

Yeah, I guess we'd need someone to take up fat Thor mantle.

A gentleman's tip of the hat to you, sir.

...I also forgot to mention Siddiq Bey as far as the Villanova guys go. He's set to become a free agent next season and I think we should have the finances to make him a compelling offer. He'd be a great replacement for an Obi Toppin as a guy that can defend both forward positions, hit the (corner) 3 and cut when necessary. The Hawks trading John Collins might positively affect his role significantly with them though, which might make it unlikely that he leaves for a bench role with us.

We should have grabbed Bey at the deadline last year.

Donte is underrated right now. If you can get him for the mid level or a little below you do that. Rose and IQ worked very well together and Donte moves the ball and shoots a high percentage. Obi is going to be traded and I like the guys that can do multiple things.

We need good players on good deals locked in for when a trade does become available that makes sense.

No brainer move.

Chandler @ 6/28/2023 8:58 AM
to me it boils down if he's willing to take shots and capable of making them

we need willing, reliable shooters, and for all of the guys we mention on the roster we don't have that. Grimes unwilling. IQ hopefully gets to be reliable but we're actually a bit short in that category and maybe he can contribute there

I think the choice was Josh Hart or Saddiq Bey. Bey was swapped for 2 seconds rounders, which seems to be the equivalent of a late first rounder these days. That said, I agree Bey is a better fit due to his ability to guard both forward slots. He showed his limitations as a offensive creator in Detroit, but I still like him as three & D role player.

I could be wrong on this but I thought folks in Atlanta don't regard Bey's defense very well.

Bey in same draft class as IQ and Obi and will need to be extended very soon too.

He only played a handful of games in Atlanta. But it sounded like his defense went to crap when his offensive responsibilities increased in Detroit. He definitely has quickness issues in certain matchups tho.

Bey? Isn't Josh Hart staying?

Kinda different players. Bey is more of a combo forward. He would be more of an Obi replacement, though I have to admit that it wouldn't be a clean fit. But it would be cleaner than Donte's fit, who plays the same role as Hart

Knicks are prime to make a deal but I have no clue who fills in where until one is done. IQ for a pick(s) is not that far fetched.

I don't see overlap between Donte and Hart, although I think Donte is just a different version on Grimes with tons over overlap between those 2.

For me Hart is a SF or PF in a 6'5" body, someone who defends, rebounds and takes the ball to the rim. Dirty work/energy guy type of guy who is instant spark and impact off bench.

Donte is the classic spacer in the Gabe Vincent, Max Straus mold. Defends, scrappy, shoots and shoots and you want him to shoot more when open.

Both guys know how to defend and how to help defend. Endless motors. Passers, rebounders, ball movers.

I have it in my head that Donte is also the perfect role model for Grimes. Really show him the ropes about off ball movement, screen and re-screen type plays, C&S and pull up guy.

I see them both as 3/2s. Hart is physical and he rebounds, but I don't see us going far with him at PF. Also, I don't recall Donte being anything special as a movement shooter. I have to admit that I didn't see much of him in Golden State. I remember him being a physical, athletic wing who can knock down a three if open. I have no doubt they could play together, but it doesn't address the lack of size at the forward spot IMHO.

Just meant that I thought Hart's game more resembled that of a burly PF or SF but in a guard's body. He definitely is no PF.

Gotcha. I'd guess I'd compare them by saying their both utility wings, with Josh being more physical and Donte being more athletic. I looked up their rebounds per 36 possessions and Hart was at 8 and Donte was at 7. Their career 3 point percentages are about the same, with Donte being slightly better. Donte has shown steadier improvement from 3 throughout his career it seems. But Hart has been a much better finisher at the rim, I'm guessing because of his aggresiveness in transition. I like Donte and wouldn't mind having him. But I'd prefer it if they nabbed a legit combo forward 3/4 or 4/5 who had a clue on defense.

Doing Obi dirty without even mentioning his name. Shame shame
