If Knicks feel like they need to move on from Obi, this is the guy for me

Usman could be a big fit, but he needs time. If Thibs rarely plays Obi, how much time is he giving Garuba?

Cause he is an edge type player, 10-12 minutes would be completely fine IMO and he can earn more minutes depending on play

Small ball 5. Backup minutes to Randle.

He didn't take a lot of 3pointers at all last season. Let him work on that shot. You got 2 years to see what you have.

Fred Katz brought up George Niang in his last article covering Knicks MLE targets. He also brought up Yuta, Torrie Graig and Bruce Brown(who seems unlikely at this point.)

Georges Niang
(most recently with Philadelphia 76ers)
Niang, a backup power forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, makes sense for the Knicks if another change came. New York wants shooting. Niang provides it, but he does it at a position Obi Toppin currently occupies.

But what if the Knicks were to make a trade — say, something involving Toppin, who is extension eligible and can become a restricted free agent next summer? Then they may need a Toppin replacement. Niang probably won’t cost all $12.4 million of the MLE, but a portion of it could entice him to come to Madison Square Garden and play a similar role to what Toppin has for the past couple of seasons.

He lights nets on fire from the corners. He’s shot better than 40 percent from the 3-point arc in five consecutive seasons. He’s a quick ball-mover. Reigning MVP Joel Embiid often looked more comfortable on the block when Niang was attracting attention in the weak-side corner. Niang could provide the same effect for an offense that has Mitchell Robinson already camped in the middle with Brunson and Barrett slicing through it.

The signing of Isaiah Robey at the end of last season flew under the radar. He is signed through this season but has yet to suit up for the Knicks. At 25 he might not be asked to play in SL, but he probably should to prove he is more than a G League talent and not just end of the bench fodder

Well shoot, I said that in the trade EF thread. Since I have never been right about anything, it's bound not to happen

1) Hart accepts player option.
2) Trade Fournier and Washington Pick to SA for a TPE (18.8mm). I'd ask for Devin Vassell, Zach Collins and/or Charles Bassey back, but not optimistic on those.
3) Sign Donte Divincenzo to a 12.2mm MLE contract - 4 years.
4) Trade Obi to Lakers for Jarred Vanderbilt. Extend Vanderbilt for 4 years, 13mm per.
5) Extend IQ. 4 years 17mm per.
6) Extend Hart, 4 years, 16mm per.

Brunson/IQ
Divicenzo/Grimes
Barrett/Hart
Randle/Vanderbilt
Robinson/Hartenstein

I'd also make phone calls on:

1) Trey Murphy
2) Chris Duarte
3) Jalen McDaniels
4) Isaiah Stewart

I'd make half hearted comment about OG and JJJ, respectively, just to see if they laugh or not. Those aren't little moves though.

Taurean Prince had his guarantees declined and is a FA. He’s a CAA client who is a low-level 3&D player but he can really shoot it. He would be a realistic fit for a backup 4 spot assuming Toppin is moved.

What are the protections on the Washington pick?

Chandler @ 6/29/2023 5:29 PM

i like the post above about Niang

still would like CJ McCollum. #freecJ. He's playing with a bunch of immature crybabies.

We should do right with EF and try and get him to a place he wants to go -- don't get greedy.
