That Siakim stated he won't resign with anyone he is traded to is also pretty sticky.
Massai drives a hard bargain.
If they get Hunter, does that make OG more expendable?
Bottom line is Toronto then becomes another team with lots of assets.
The notion of "middle of the pack purgatory" is interesting. With fewer players shaking loose for FA and a structure of Parity it becomes more important FO talent can be of influence.
This is where teams can spend and its on the cap.

I don't understand the Sikam thing. Is he saying he wants to stay with Raptors even if they don't want him? saying he won't resign with anyone seem a little crazy no? IDK, am I missing something? I don't think Hunter makes OG more expendable. In fact, I don't know if he'd earn mins even if OG and Siskim were gone. They would still have Trent, Barnes, Gradey Dick, Jaden McDaniels, Thad Young, and Will Barton. The whole roster is wingy guys between 6'5 and 6'9 and I don't think Hunter is very good. Personally, I love Dick and I wouldn't want Hunter cock blocking him.

Siakim makes more money if he extends AFTER the end of his current contract than if he did so in-season. I *think* that's the context but I could be wrong.

We shall not go near the Dick loving issues that seem to be yours alone.

[Woj] New York Knicks G Josh Hart is finalizing a four-year, $81 million contract extension, Aaron Mintz, Dave Spahn and Steven Heumann of @CAA_Basketball tell ESPN. Deal delivers Hart a total of $94M through 2027-2028 season.

more than I'd like but overall 5/94m isn't too bad.

Yeah. Supposing he continues to have the impact he has over the past 3 years of his career AND gets Brunson to stay longer, we’re fine. We’ll consider how he took one for the team by opting into his deal for this year. Averages out.

technomaster @ 8/9/2023 11:55 AM
On another note, I don’t really understand the limited scope of the “super max” from a player’s association standpoint. So in order to qualify, you first need a regular “max” deal, then in the last 2 years of your contract you need to make an all-NBA team.

It screws players like Randle, who signed a less than max deal, yet performed at an All-NBA level. So basically, since we signed all of our players to this point at less than max contracts, none of our players will be eligible for the boost.

(Not our problem, but I want our players to be happy about being here and wanting to return as FA’s, esp if we’re fortunate enough for them to perform at that level)

not sure of all the rules and the newer rules but Jules extended after his all nba season and I believe took less than what was possible. That could be the market would not be there for that amount or he just felt knicks with Thibs was were he wanted to be and the money was very good at that time.

Jalen understands the business. His villinova guys could be gone in two years, as can Thibs and his pops. That and injuries.
He is no doubt grateful for NOT signing the $55mil deal with Mavs and im sure in time will want market value. We have to see how the next two years go.
Its a long way off. Enjoy the games!!!

I don't know all the rules either but Jules took his max extension. he only would have been eligible for more if he waited a year til his contract ran out. It's a really good contact but the notion that he did the team a favor by taking less is fiction

i mean getting him to take 117m when he could have waited and gotten 200m was a huge win.

it would have been a bit of a risk but 4/117m is nothing these days for an all star caliber player.

overall we've done great with these contracts. Brunson is the best deal in the league, only thing that could have made it better would be if he had a 4 year deal, but he's going to get paid whether its 2 or 3 years from now anyway.

Hart at 4/70.9m is a steal, less than $18m per year and allowed us to sign DDV by opting in.

we really dont have a single bad contract outside of Evan who is expiring and might be needed anyway for a trade.

He couldn't have waited and gotten 200 million b/c he had a bad 2021-2022 season. After that year it was widely thought we might have to add draft compensation for someone to take on his 117. After playing good last year, it turns out Randle's contract is a very good value. it's also realisticly the most he could have gotten

Perception was he gave us more cap space.
And its possible he was told he would not get the 200mil with Knicks and he could be free to explore that if that was his preference.
He had a shit year.
Then he bounced back.
Not quite "fiction" but seemed it was mutually beneficial.

Alrighty then. He then had another killer year with allstar and likley his last All NBA honor. They go positionless going forward.
Bottom line is he got security, we got a very good player on an very good contract.
Benchmark are players on tradable contracts. I'd say all are but RJ right now.
Winning is what matters. We did more last year than year before.

Agree. The perception is if he did not get greedy he took a discount.
That Melo could have waited and then opted out to come here as a FA is also perceived as him being greedy.
That summer the CBA expired and he could have opted out and not had anything until it worked out. He needed surgery on his knee. It was minor, but things can go wrong.
Context and details matter.
