Almost every past regime this century had a theme, a connection "Utah" "Chicago" "Triangle" now "Villanova". Hope it works. It wont if this is the biggest move the FO makes this offseason.

Leon it seems has been deliberate to bring in higher pedigree players from quality programs. We got Blue Devils and Wildcats from both Villinova and UK. Reddish did not pan out but it was attempted. Grimes did not pan out in Kansas but did rebuild himself at Houston who has good coaching under Kelvin Sampson. More draft picks and less Starphuching created more opportunities.
The trend is fewer free agents making cap space less valuable. The ability to move value contracts and not have any “worst contract ever” on the roster enables us to be nimble if the opportunity arises. Im sure we nibbled at the Paul George situation and thought the better of it. If he did not want to be paid like a superstar perhaps that can be a thing but stupid money on older aging injury prone stars make little sense unless your knocking on the door of true contention.
WE have learned the underwhelming deals (Randle, Brunson, the Harts) in addition to our lower 1st round picks (IQ, Grimes) have been difference makers in our return to respectability. Lets hope DDV is similar!

All good points. I would add that this strategy effectively started when Perry became GM. Stockpiling draft picks, cap flexibility. Signing vets like Randle and Morris to reasonable, short term deals.
My concern is now we are targeting vets that maybe we shouldnt, like George. Grant Williams was a good target, if that report is true. That makes a lot more sense than a even a short term gamble on an aging star, who likely isnt the missing piece. Still would like to see the FO be more creative than Paul George.

If your contending then its a viable strategy? There was a price and we balked. Thats all that matters.

Didn't watch much of him this past season with GS but Dude was fantastic in Milwaukee (before the injury). I personally believe this signing means Knicks are willing to part with either Grimes or IQ, which stinks if/when it happens.

Yes - which could lead you to believe they are squeezing where they can on 23 cap to set up for a larger trade…at least I’m thinking that.

Really really nice pod. He is going to have similar impact as Hart coming to Knicks.

I love when he said he’s not a shooter. That really hit home for me on a personal level.
But it also speaks to how well rounded his game and confidence is.

He wasn't really knockdown when he first came to the league, but he's gradually improved. He reminds me of Bobby Sura.
