Knicks · Can Lillard and Miami Strongarm Portland Into A Trade (page 2)
I dont believe Dame's rep will take a hit in Portland. Been there too long, is considered a pillar of the community. Employs a lot of people. They know the clock is ticking on Lillard having enough left in the tank to win as a starter.

The Heat don't have the ransom to pay. They can only trade swaps on 2024 and 2026 and 2028 and their picks on 2027 and 2029. With 2027 & 2029 being likely outside their competitive window, the value is too distant to be high for anyone else, but the insurance value to the Heat is so high that it is hard to trade unprotected. The Heat are not a viable trade partner without someone getting bad judgment. Its a perfect fit for the Heat and Lillard from the roster perspective, and if the Heat can get protections on 2027 and 2029 they would do it, but Portland should really be getting a viable rotation player in a position of need to make this move.

Right. Portland most likely can find a better trade partner. The only compromise I see is that Lillard agrees to be traded to a contender. Not necessarily the Heat.

Key to Dame trade is what can Portland get for Herro and can they also get C Martin because I think they’ll get whatever picks Heat can give.
I’m a Herro fan - Portland should fight to get more than say a lotto protected 1 for him or just keep him - he’s a bucket.
Three team trade is ideal. How many picks do you think Miami could flip Herro for in order to move to to the Trailblazers?

Poole is likely to learn first hand how much he benefited from Curry’s offensive sets and spacing. Of the contracts I would least want to inherit, that’s up there for me. I’d probably want the pick + just to take on Poole’s contract. It doesn’t bode well for the protections on our pick.

Thats true, a 3 team trade might be doable. A good trade for Miami makes a tough team to beat tougher. IDK who in the East wants to help them do that. Wiz blew up the roster when they traded KP to Boston.
Lillard might find a better fit somewhere else. Those role players who stepped up are either gone or no longer have the element of surprise. They do have a HOF coach who hasnt lost his touch.

True. The players left to get paid and its a credit to their process and the players diligence to put in the work.
I don’t know how Miami gets Lillard. The Lowrey contract is a part of it but the talent drain is considerable.
Seems on the surface League did discourage teams from screwing Portland and issued a warning. While they publicly discouraged an event like that they would disallow a trade. The backlash from the CP3 to Laker trade was bad for the league. One has to wonder if there is a deeper behind the scene issue preventing BLazers from getting screwed.

It might be a combination of the FO not wanting to be remembered for giving away a future HOFer for nothing. And the league also worried about filling seats after Lillard is gone.
Seattle is finally supposed to be at the top of the expansion list. Stern might want to make sure the Blazers are doing OK, before adding another team in the PNW.
Its been a long time since the Blazers were without a superstar. I'm guessing they want a deal they can confidently show to the fans . I cant blame them, if thats the case.

I think Portland just wants a couple of quality young players to build with not named Tyler Hero and still on rookie contracts. Don’t think they even care about expiring contracts for matching. Miami could obtain a few quality young players for Butler AND picks but they don’t want to trade Butler. Miami is trying to negotiate in the media and they have zero leverage. If I’m Portland I’m on the beach with drinks that have tiny umbrellas and not answering the phone

A long time? Isn’t Lillard that guy?
I think you meant “Silver”? Yes?
Portland got Scoot. The consipriacy minded might think Silver already took care of them with a future attraction.
I recall the Laker Trade to Memphis. Looked like it was totally unfair but years later was judged as both teams won. The lakers got a HOF center to be with Kobe and Memphis got Marc Gasol, who became a 3 time center, picks and cap space to become very respectable in the playoffs.

Yes, Lillard is that guy. My comment was about a post-Dame Blazers. Without their superstar.
