Knicks · PSD closing, word to the new members (page 5)

Alpha1971 wrote:Just a question for the PSD members, why not go to the new Patreon site ? Why not just keep it all going as it was, why seek out a new forum with new culture ? You can have what you had previously that you lamented losing when the site closed ?

Just a question, why not see how it goes? Maybe the site gets better? I'm an old timer but isn't it a good thing when folks want to join the site? I always encouraged the visitors to come join the party at PSD.

I recommended this site for good reasons, my question is if a post like this is really the culture here? I don't think so, I like to be positive

Long time poster in PSD with some others that joined. Looking forward to talking Knicks here. I think a lot is warranted what was said, but I account for it as posting with others for 15 years. I like what was said about this forum and I have checked in here as a guest for quite some time now. I recommended this site to the PSD folks and I see some have already joined, great!
I usually don't forget posters and knickdanger has legit points, he was a good poster for us.

I did read one part about moderators and staying on topic, moving threads etc. As a former mod back in the day, I think you can shoot the site not the mod, we just followed site rules, which I know this forum considers a good thing. Actually had to step down awhile now because of things that were said, but never get enough of talking Knicks.

Some great posters have moved here and i'm very pleased to continue posting with them. After such long periods of posting constantly you get to know each other very well, even know what they will post before they do. I think sometimes like family it went to far and never liked people talking down to anyone. But I will say this the knicks knowledge is off the charts.

So glad to read the way it's done here and looking forward to talking Knicks with all or you.

Thanks

Welcome. I have no influence on this forum and am not a moderator or ever plan to be. Infact, in my time here never knowingly ever had any contact with a moderator. Like I mentioned earlier, this forum seems to be self regulated by members who are respectful and tolerant. It's " Peace, love, and happiness with a brother do your thing attitude". So if you ever feel the temptation to write " Where's your link, that trade discussion belongs in that thread, stop posting this or that here, or we already have a thread for that, or why is that topic a thread, I will recommend you let the temptation to pass. It's not that kind of place. So is the need to correct or educate another person. Let the light hearted responses of the others and the interests of the posters determine when and how a conversation flows. Often a conversation may be started with the intent of discusing something else, you might have charts, links, stats the whole ball of wax. But the posters deviate to discussing the latest film or novel. It is what it is here, that's how it goes. Relax and let the tide take you without fighting against the current

I'm optimistic and embrace the possibility of change. My question stems from your last few comments about the PSD site closing and how little you enjoy change and your interested in going to UK. Seemingly, never yourself, pointing out the differences between the UK and PSD forums. You perhaps jokingly stated something to the effect the folks at UK won't know what hit them or something to that effect. Just that we should go together in large numbers to preserve what we have over at UK, but not providing a context to PSD members that over at UK does some things differently and let's be respectful. Could be wrong. I will take you at your word. What else can a person do ? You made your pledge in your introduction if your a person of your word it's all going to go fine. Just that people become creatures to habit..

Let me extend a welcome to all the PSD folks. Andrew and I are the mods but Andrew is somehow lost in the sea of kids and their activities and whatnot and we haven't heard from him in years. I'd rather have the forums mod themselves but do step in every once in a while.

Summer time is relax time and conversations do meander as they probably should.

Wanting to Trade Randle and also Keep Randle are both a daily and yearly thing.

I don't begin to understand half the things Alpha is referring to but that's OK too.

Welcome and let's go Knicks.

Oh ps, ToddBott is in charge of the cheerleaders pics, so funnel that energy towards him.

Martin, I sort of apologize to you for seemingly speaking on behalf of the PSD board. As you may realize I am not a major contributor here. I post but I am not a real regular here, I post here and there since joining but never religiously. I felt the need to step up and defend the culture of your forum, which is truly a credit to you and Andrew. I hope the site is what you envisioned it to be when you guys created it. If I have over done it I apologize. But on the other hand if you have enjoyed my defense of your site feel free to cut me a check or knight me " Sir Alpha 1971 ". It's really a great place to come and relax

Anyway, time to enjoy life outside, and that means weed and alcohol and bikini clad women

Peace out

Too old for that or too old and sick. Lost the taste for drinking, never really liked weed. My wife don't like me looking at woman in bikinis. But she encourages to embrace my kinky side with..... Never mind

Welcome Stilla! I am glad to see you here and you were always a gentleman even when we would disagree. I don't want to belabor my point but it was a small number of posters i had a problem with. To acknowledge my part I always took the bait and engaged - I've done that here as well. Seems to pass more quickly here for whatever reason. I actually go back a ways on PSD to the Sly days - I posted under a different moniker then. It was my introduction to hard core Knicks talk and a Knicks community. Unfortunately they were mostly dark days for the team but we got to be excited about Andy Rautins and Landry Fields and so on!

And welcome to Ewing, Dleethal, NYRican - all respect to you guys and I look forward to you adding to the community should you stick around. A bit slow right now but there will always be another wacky trade proposal for us to all weigh in on until the next real move or the games begin.

I was a regular back then there as well. I can't remember dates but I recall discussing Walsh and players like Nate Robinson and players from that time up until the COVID closures. COVID was a turning point for me. People died and I was homebound due to the virus in NYC and sports meant very little to me at that point but kindness and respect meant more and family and time with family, friends, and pets. Needed a place where people were more mellow and friendly. PSD is like the alternate Star Trek Universe that Kirk beamed to with that transporter malfunction.

your name looks familiar, there isn't a big crowd coming from PSD. I would wager 10-20 at most. and most that have said they were coming are here already.

NYCerican, just asking, out of curiosity, why some posters coming here versus the other members who joined that Patreon ? Or did people join both forums ? Just curious in your opinion. Some folks want a change from the group ? Want a new pool of water to swim in. That Patreon account reportedly has over 100 new members. It's a positive sign for me if some folks chose UK versus staying with the herd.

I can say with certainty that my style as a poster has changed over 15 or so years. I really don’t get why you are beating a dead horse. Maybe get outside, get some fresh air and chill a little.

Never heard of Patreon but I like the "forum" feel of this forum, no learning curve from PSD.

NYKalltheway @ 7/23/2023 3:34 AM
No idea about that Patreon thing Alpha is referring to, but I saw that there's a Discord group going but it's not really Knicks related. I know you can create channels or something on Discord and could have a Knicks corner, but it's just not the same. It's like an old school chat-room as opposed to a proper forum with a rigid setup. Which is also why I dislike the Reddit interface, it's all over the place and I never felt comfortable in keeping up with any conversation there.
The official move is to some sister site which is mostly on sports betting, don't think that's the kind of crowd that hanged out at PSD Knicks forum.

This feels like a proper Knicks nest. I actually did sign up here back in the day but never used my account. When I tried to register the other day it said my email was already in use, but honestly I don't remember much about it. It's been almost 15 years!

Also, something that people who weren't there don't understand is that PSD was thriving in the late 2000s and early 2010s (when I first signed up) and there were fans of all teams, as well as your own Knicks corner, but I also had fun checking out the Lakers forums for example and the general NBA area. Safe to say that the PSD general NBA talk has had become a really annoying place to be in the last 5 or so years, with the same people arguing the same things (guilty of that myself, but it was fun poking at these semi-bots :D ) and activity had dwindled. When I first signed up, there was discussion all across the NBA team subforums. Now, you check the Spurs forum and their last post was in 2019 or something and unless you've been hit in the head during the lockdown periods, that's like 4 years away! The Bucks won the league recently but nothing picked up, if anything, activity was also less. I think it started going downhill since the mid-2010s. Perhaps the reason was banning users frequently and having relatively strict rules, but some of it was from members was pure flaming at points. I didn't mind it - coming from Greece it's a bit natural to talk shit and direct to randomers as if they're your best friend - but I get why the PSD guys wanted a different approach. It suffered from not gaining new members, losing activity from its existing core (I was relatively active, but on Knicks forum I was mostly reading as I wasn't able to catch most games live due to the timezone difference) and even mods got less interested, so they had to make some active people mods who weren't really cut for it and kept insulting members.

No idea how activity is on the NFL, MLB or NHL areas, but I can say that the New York sports teams subforums were the only thing that held PSD going in the last few years. Like the last Gaulish village from Asterix. And it's safe to say that aside from a select couple of members, the majority of Knicks posters didn't really go to the general NBA forum as much. I think myself, Ewing and maybe another poster here or there were relatively frequent posters there.

I love that there's a place here that holds a lot of Knicks fans and I think it's great news that this place is actually growing with a bunch of us coming over. Hopefully we all celebrate a championship together soon :)

It’s going to bug me but I can’t remember the site I came from prior to this. You started this up right when that one was going out. It was definitely one of the NY ones, plus the espn Knicks forum was pretty decent at that time and didn’t last much longer. I had no idea at the time I had signed up here the day you guys started it. If there are any other original members still around I wonder if they can name the forum a few of us came from. There was a guy who posted regularly on it that had legitimate information from the front office and forwarded along some tidbits. But we are going back 22 years.
