Hey Martin, it's a slow off season. Can we discuss the Giants here? The off topic section is dead.
oh shoot I butchered the spelling of 'Saquon Barkley's' name in the thread title.

For sure, I think others would appreciate that

Thanks man
So it looks like he is still getting the same 10.1M as if he had signed the franchise tag with (3) 300,000 incentives that are unlikely to be reached adding up to 11M. The key difference is a 2M signing bonus. No expert but I guess he gets 2M now instead of waiting for game paychecks starting game 1. Barkley is in camp today, day 1. This is great for the Giants.
When I was a youngun running back was the premier position. Not so any longer - still debatable whether the Gints should have taken Saquan so high. Anyway, things are looking up for both NY teams, although I'm not big on the Rodgers signing. The teams are on the upswing because of good drafting and smaller smart FA signings, not the big splash stuff. Look at the Yankees and Mets especially. When will NY teams learn? Seems our current FO has.

Yeah, until the process starts all over again next season. I feel bad for Saquon, but this business decision. It's risky to give guaranteed numbers to a RB.
The Daniel Jones contract - I've been dying to talk about this. DJ gets 160M but all of the guaranteed money is in 2023 and 2024. The upcoming draft is reportedly QB heavy. The Gmen have improved the O line and finally drafted a C this last draft. The offense is also improved and DJ will have plenty of weapons. We got Barkley signed, added TE Waller. We drafted a WR and the group as a whole is better than last year. There's talk of opening up the offensive playbook this year as well.
All said, DJ is in a prove it situation. He needs to bring it and I don't think an offensive game of check downs and running is going to be enough. The schedule is rough, the draft is deep at QB. I wouldn't be surprised if we draft a QB with our 1st rd pick in the next draft if DJ proves to be a very average QB.

Yeah I feel bad for Barkley too. He is really taking a chance of getting injured without a multi year contract but this is good for the Giants
Happy for this Kid, and excited about the season. I think it's really fantastic this can be discussed in here, thanks

The giants had to pay Jones. It’s a qb league and he was good last year finally getting a solid head coach and offensive coordinator now that that clown Joe Judge is gone.
Giants extend LT Andrew Thomas for 5 years. Schoen taking care of business
As much as I like Saquon, I'm not signing him to a long term contract. Too expensive, too injury prone and it's been proven you do not need a star RB to win the Super Bowl. So enjoy Saquon while he is here cause I think it's very likely it's his last season here.
But very happy we extended Andrew Thomas! Got to now hope Evan Neal shows major improvement!

Turned out to be a pretty good move for Schoen even though Jones had leverage. Justin Herbert just signed extended for $262M ($52M per year) over 5 years. Jones falls to 12th in annual QB salaries on what really is a prove it deal..... soon to be 13th when Burrow's extends with the Bengals. Giants have a very tough schedule this year so its possible they may take a step back record wise, but feel like they are on an excellent path forward with this GM/Coach.
Garret Wilson already injured. I’m so glad the jets did t sign Hopkins but are now going to give Dalvin Cook $40 million
