Knicks · The 2023-2024 New York Knickerbockers Season......... (page 1)

Nalod @ 9/12/2023 11:07 AM
Camp officially starts September 27th, First preseason game vs Celtics October 9th and regular season, the home opener on ESPN is Wednesday Oct 25!
Some preseason items remain are IQ's extension and that's about it. Drama free thus far and only DDM for Obi is the rotational change.
Jules comes off ankle surgery and everyone else is healthy.
Thibs in his 4th of 5 year contract. I doubt anything happens this year unless they fall apart. I'd expect his extension if we succeed at some metric reasonable.

Bill Simmons almost guarantees a trade for a "superstar". The biggest media town in the world can have nothing but starphuch stories to circulate.
They are prime to make a deal and still be strong. The cast of characters are well known by most of us.

Embiid
Giannis
Luka
KAT
Lillard

No predictions or order of probability.

Star power? Too bad Jalen did not shine in Worlds. They set him up to be the hero but it was not to be. He was not disgraced. Plenty of blame to go around but his metrics were not great.
Small guards thing? Maybe. Clev might have the same issue with DM as its star. He is a hell of a player but come playoff time. For knicks to succeed beyond last year we need more from those around JB.
That and better ball movement. We are a very good iso team.

Nalod fanboy of RJ and hopes he shines. Thing is that might make him a true trade piece. No down side to that either.
So I'm rooting for his success! Same for everyone.

Where do we finish? Force me to guess? I say 50 wins. Im usually conservative.
Looking forward to this season. Parity will make most nights no cakewalk and rivalries will form.

Go NY GO!!!!!

Notwithstanding dynasties and GOAT led teams, where teams finish can be unpredictable. Where do the football Jets land after putting their eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket and seeing him have a great fall? How does the unforeseen affect not necessarily the Knicks but their immediate competitors? I see the Knicks as having good depth that can help them in the long haul while still not having "the Star" that the gasbags insist upon. Personally I see Brunson and Randle as our stars and their health is paramount in any big success hopes. After them you wonder who among RJ, Grimes, IQ, and whomever takes it to the next level. With continuity and good leade3rship and a defensive mindset I predict the Knicks have an excellent shot to get to the Conference Finals.

The Jets were real. They won last night without Rogers for a reason. With Rogers they were a super bowl contender now they look like a solid team that need something to be a real contender. I think the Knicks and Jets are on similar level

I watched the end of the game - exciting win! On 9/11 no less. Awesome defense. And I would love to see Zach Wilson continue to redeem himself. Personally I didn’t care for the Rodgers move - don’t like overpaying especially for older players. Hoping the Knicks continue to avoid that.

Imagine Zack Wilson becomes "All That!"............
Didn't we have a Jet fan who got booted form a site for being "all that" about Zack Wilson?
Aaron Rogers karma is not a good thing.
Packers are just know when to let their dudes go.

Speaking of Zach Wilson, haven't heard from Phil or NYKMentality in a minute. Nevermind, Mentality is still doing Mentality things on X.

The Athletic has This order of finish:

Boston
Phila
Knicks
Nets
Toronto

Depends on which Harden shows up and how long until he asks out. Logic says he shows up to prove he can play which gets him traded. If he mails it in, its a shit show.
There were rumors knicks made inquiry to philly about Harden and the price they wanted. Thats either due diligence or a real interest. Just rumors.
Who and how much draft capital was offered is not known by Nalod. If anyone has any input and source that would be interesting.
How far could Phila drop?
one can blame Hinkie, Colangelo, or Morey but the one constant was the owner Josh Harris to start "the process" to current.

Injuries aside I can see Celtics atop the east. After that the Harden thing determines Phila's fate. Not to say they can't make an intriguing deal and remain competitive. Nurse might unlock somthing Doc Rivers could not.
Nets have Ben Simmons who like KP could be a wild card.
Knicks are solid and deep. Homer in me wants to go above 50 wins. I'm still damaged given our history so I will protect my emotions and just enjoy the season.
Toronto is strange. Siakim is heading to free agency. He does not turn 30 until april and has a slight build which has been pretty durable. Ujiri that dumb or just operating on a level we can't fathom yet? OG also heading to unrestricted FA if he does not opt into his near 20mil player option. Its not the no brainer we think it is given an injury could occur or he plays his ass off and Ujiri gives him a fantastic extension for him opting in and cap space to do magical stuff.
He won't let both walk. Or will he??

Anyone have season tickets this year?

Tickets? I'm still trying to figure out the best package to (legally) stream games. Anyone here try the new MSG app yet?

If the Knicks did make this move, I'd doubt Porter would see the light of day in a Knicks uniform. But what draft assets would Houston have to give to make this move feasible?

I'd do it if Eason was tagged in. Salary would be tricky.

Knicks aren’t trading for Kevin Porter Jr. I get these guys just make s#!t up for clicks or whatever but come on….

I wish divisional standings meant something. Used to be the top divisional teams had home court advantage in the first round until the NBA threw out that idea. If it didn't make sense to give divisional winners extra weight, I don't understand why conferences still matter for the playoffs. I think Silver missed a good chance with the in season tournament to lean into divisional rivalries; if groups were divisional rivalries I would be more interested.

I am less concerned with Brunson's FIBA experience than I am optimistic about RJ's. RJ showed that he's ready to level up again as he enters his new contract. Since RJ famously takes some time to get into a groove, hopefully his excellent summer play carries over into the beginning of the season. One thing that did stand out for me was Josh Hart isn't a power forward. I know a lot of us have him penciled in as one when Randle is on the bench but it doesn't seem like a viable solution long term.

Injuries and trades are going to happen but with depth and familiarity Thibodeau should have a lot of options. The paltry return for Obi was disappointing but effectively swapping him for DDV on a long term contract seems like a smart move. At the end of the day Randle is still the most important player on the roster. He reworked his game last year to become a volume 3 point shooter leading to a career high in points per a game. If Randle comes back without any lingering injuries, Knicks will have a great season.

re Harden: I take him at his word that he's not playing for the 76ers again as long as they have Morey there.

I don't think it's likely, but the idea of the trade would be for the assets. Knicks trade Evan and whatever for Porter if the Rockets give up any additional assets that are worthwhile. Knicks waive or trade Porter once they get him. If Porter is convicted, they might be able to just void Porter's deal altogether. If not, they just make Porter stay at home. Porter's deal is only guaranteed $1M next season, so they might be able to flip him in another deal.

On reflection I get that “transactional” aspect to this made up trade proposal. And personally I wouldn’t care as long as he never put on a Knicks uniform. But I sense the front office probably wouldn’t want any stain from his domestic violence charges on their hands. But even if they were willing, do the Rockets want Fournier? All this for a second round pick attached?

Something to talk about in the NBA dog days!

The immature blow up he had that got him traded from Cleveland was pretty telling.
As mentioned, we only get the headlines, not the small stuff that can grate on a lockerroom or the coaches.
our guys seem to have good character and get along with each other and the coaches. Sure Obi might be frustrated by his career at times but
thats competitive spirit and its usually respected and they move on.

We have currently a very likable team. Whatever their flaws they are hard working, supportive of one another, and nobody has thrown soup at a coach or had hookers drag them in social media. Yet.
