As mentioned, we only get the headlines, not the small stuff that can grate on a lockerroom or the coaches.
our guys seem to have good character and get along with each other and the coaches. Sure Obi might be frustrated by his career at times but
thats competitive spirit and its usually respected and they move on.

We have currently a very likable team. Whatever their flaws they are hard working, supportive of one another, and nobody has thrown soup at a coach or had hookers drag them in social media. Yet.

Bridges would complete the roster………But that ship sailed years ago.
At least they all in NYC and can hang together.

Can Ryno be a role player if Knicks make a big trade that moves IQ and perhaps Deuce?

Maybe he requests a trade when his contract starts to wind down.

Nalod @ 9/18/2023 9:13 AM
with 4 Villinova Wildcats rostered is Jay Wright anywhere in any rumor mill?
Thibs has 2 years left. Johnny Bryant is a legit head coach prospect. I don't see it, but the guy can coach and looks good doing it.
He is 61. I have no idea what his ambitions are nor have read anything suggesting.
I can only go on these guys are a good core group to build with and get along.

As for Giannis and Embiid rumors, to me Randle is top 5 PF in the league and statistically on a bargain contract. Its why he could be a great trading chip.
RJ seems centric to any mocks for good reason but knicks would be near naked at the wing position in a league that demands it if he was moved.
No predictions here.

Any deal that Starts with All star Randle and up and coming IQ fits many teams need for current allstar and valueable young player. I say starts as it would take more of course.

other things to think about is the internal growth:

1. Mitch have another level to go?
2. RJ Barrett ceiling can be seen but consistency has prevented it. He get there this year?
3. IQ is in the motivation zone for his contract and Knicks don't want him going restricted if he kills it.
4. Grimes year three is a hell of a prospect.
5. Chemistry/Continuety with the team returning all but Obi and doing so mostly healthy. Only Jules had to rehab off season.
Some good stuff brewing in house with this team!!

Been a quiet trade off season. Is the log jam to release after Lillard and Harden issues are resolved? Not Knick centric but elsewhere?

I felt this.

Nalod @ 9/27/2023 9:04 AM
Those memories are his and a franchise moving or their demise cannot diminish that.
I own my knick ones. Not Dolan, Not Isiah, no heartbreak can remove them.
I too have great indelible memories of Knicks was a kid and its why I don't say goodbye.
To each their own though. Man has to do what a man has to do.
As for Raiders, sure once upon a time there was a great era. It goes back way before Gruden and Mark Davis.
That franchise was a rebel in the league from its inception and How Al Davis got the team and ran it was legend.
Its fitting its in Las Vegas. Stadiums and money matters. Oakland fucked up. Al Davis fucked up. and the fans were hurt.
Davis was not a wealthy owner. His wealth came from the team. ITs a great story actually.
Blame the NFL owners? Sure. They are greedy. They were back then also.
The fans? They keep paying and paying for a product that makes them happy.
Blame technology. Football was made for night time and the new flat panel TVs are bigger, cheaper, and better than ever! Its a visual delight!!!
Unless you got great seats Football is better on the Big screen. Tail gating is fun. I get it.

Some of us watched knick games on 12inch black and white tv's as kids and we still loved them. Listened on radio when home games were not televised, and they weren't unless it was a national weekly game. And when it was, we'd bust with pride we had the nicest arena, load fans, elegant uniforms, and a damn good team! One day MSG will be moved and a new one in its place. One day we will win a chip. Maybe Im here to see it, If not, its been a good ride. Could have been better but it sure started off great. From 1970 thru 1976 Knicks won two and then DR. J and the nets won two. One could love Knicks and still love DR. J in the ABA back then. We had Giants and upstart Jets. Yankees and upstart Mets. Knicks and upstart Nets also. Its how things were back then. They rarely played each other so it never mattered. AFL vs. NFL, NBA vs. ABA, and AL and NL leagues.

And we were kids then, Our lives were far less complicated and we loved sports. WE had our heroes and they were also more accessible. Times change. some for the better, some not so.

Alpha1971 @ 9/27/2023 1:08 PM
No ex Villanova PFs to back up Julius ?
blkexec @ 9/27/2023 1:25 PM
I believe this season will go as far as RJ takes us.

Yes hes the 3rd wheel, but I trust JB and Jules. I don't trust RJ's consistency. His highs and lows are too extreme. But I'm hoping his experience on the Canadian team helps him be a better player.

No basis to trust his consistency because it has yet to be demonstrated.
I think they played 8 games and but two were very good.
Lets hope he carried that playoff series feeling into the FIBA and its now the norm!

About Robey, after watching his highlights its encouraging his abilty MIGHT be a good fit. Obi will get a chance in Indy that he did not get here.
Roby is not the same player but might be a better fit? We'll see!

I'm still hoping the Knicks announce an extension for Quickly before the season starts. The Knicks are hardcapped for the season after using the full MLE to sign DDV. If the Knicks sign IQ to an extension he will be locked in as a Knicks for this season because of the complicated rules of average contract value for guys in his situation. Any trade involving Quickly after a signed extension would push NY over the hard cap line. The Knicks won't have enough cap space to make keeping a low cap hold on IQ's contract a worthwhile proposition.

Two big reasons a contract extension doesn't get done is both sides can't agree on money or Knicks are keeping open the possibility of using IQ as trade bait. Again trading IQ to a new team would require that they quickly decide to resign him in the offseason with far less a track record than the Knicks on how he fits with a new team. IQ is good enough to be a top 6th man candidate but his role as a full-time starter is still up for debate.

A few years ago I wrote the Knicks as a big market team should take advantage of Covid to outspend other teams before realizing that the parent company was harder hit than most companies due to Dolan's sole focus on event hosting. It's possible Rose and Co. have been forbidden from being a tax team the past few years. An IQ extension for 25 million would keep the Knicks under the tax line, but once it gets to 30 million the math becomes more complicated.

I'm hoping that IQ follows the good example set by Randle and agrees to a somewhat team friendly deal before the season starts that will keep him in NY.

I'm a believer in what Fred Katz says and relays to us.

And the Knicks did it. They got their guy, for free and can still upgrade 1 player and still also go all in on another.

I think we just need to be patient.

It's hard to imagine Brunson making a leap from the level he showed post-season. He was a superstar. Given our play style and rotation, I think Randle is the guy most likely to take a leap this season. Randle shot 34% from 3 last year on over 11 attempts per 100 possessions. I don't know how they measure this but one stat said Randle had the 2nd highest game to game variance on 3s in the NBA (lots of 6 for 9s and lots of 1 for 9s). If Randle can shoot 36-37% and be more consistent game to game I think it would be big. He also made some strides in scoring as spacer and making some swing passes though it's certainly not a strength. I think these are two areas he can improve on and will definitely have the opportunity to improve on.

I agree that he cannot take a much bigger leap offensively. I think defensively he could take a few steps. I am not thinking he will be a lockdown defender. He does position himself pretty well to block passing lanes. But with defensive footwork, I think he can up his total game.

I think Fred was suggesting that that is the level we should expect him to get to on a regular basis, that potential superstar or at least all-nba level of play. Especially with that remark of "from Jan on he averaged 28ppg on 52% shooting with 45% 3pt%".

That's the leap I think, to go along with what he did at end of Miami series.

Nalod @ 10/4/2023 9:41 AM
If post January was the leap, then we have seen it. Its just a matter of full season statistic.
Cool.
I'd hope the whole team can make the leap to a 55 win season.

We need more willing and capable shooting from the 2/3

RJ is willing but not sure if he's capable. Seemed like he ironed out some things in playoffs but we need to see it consistently

Grimes is capable but not willing -- way too deferential and also needs more poise at time and play in flow.
