Knicks · The 2023-2024 New York Knickerbockers Season......... (page 3)
RJ is willing but not sure if he's capable. Seemed like he ironed out some things in playoffs but we need to see it consistently
Grimes is capable but not willing -- way too deferential and also needs more poise at time and play in flow.

Suck it, Jokic!
I may have had too much caffeine today.
His survival in the league really needs to have some offense game beyond what we have seen.
He has to athletic foot speed and explosiveness to be Aaron Gordan like. How far can he go? Good story line perhaps.
One video clip? We fans become expert on this. Build it into our data base and then believe it! LOL!
WE read the same off season hype about mitch. This time from his trainer.
We don’t know what trades Leons has looked at or not, but Mitch has to be important.
Lets put it this way, If PHilly wants to move Embiid……… is Mitch and Jules with two firsts really crazy for both? Jules is an allstar and Mitch a darn good center!
Granted, puts us in a bind at the 4, but rest of core is there and our glut of guards can be used to get one.
Or, Sims/iHart gets promoted. Just spitballing………Embiid plays more like a 4 anyway on offense. Paired with Simms as rim protector makes for good convo. Lets not discuss foul troubles yet…………
Its knicks,
So, where does that leave us? I don't think the 4-5 seed is a given.
Brunson is looking like a team leader. The relationship between him and Randle will govern a lot of our season. Which Randle shows up is also relevant to at least maintaining the same performance as last year. I love Brunson, but I worry he doesn't have the biometrics to be a two-way player and that other half of the ball is relevant.
For me, the shots allocated to IQ, Grimes, Barrett (will include DDV and Hart in this list) will be the place where we change our +/- the most. Barrett either needs to figure out his efficiency and take better shots or take less shots. Don't want to stifle a young player, but he needs coaching on that. Spend some time with his godfather on how to be a team basketball player.
Our bigs (Randle and Robinson) are strong and create a handful for any frontcourt in the East when healthy.
So, I think we can make some more noise this year, but its not a given and I think we need health and steady improvement in performance on our side.
Surprise move?
Brunson/Grimes/jHart/Randle/Robinson to start
DDV/IQ/Barrett/iHart/Sims off the bench.

Healthy, I think we have a hard time stacking up with them. Miami kind of lost its footing with the players that left, so I think they actually will be worse despite amazing coaching. Philly is a soap opera. They should blow it up. But, Morey won't bow down to Harden. They will play without him. Cleveland, Indiana and Brooklyn are good, young teams. Toronto is pretty similarly situated to us personnel-wise, may benefit from the coaching change. They are starting the season with a Center but are mailing it in with Schroeder at PG.So, where does that leave us? I don't think the 4-5 seed is a given.

i agree a lot with this. Our strength will be consistency and depth. (here's hoping Boston and Bucks have spells with no chemistry or nagging injuries!)
The key for me for a significantly improved season is (a) can RJ improve his outside shooting [there was chatter during the playoffs how he adjusted his mechanics for the better] or (b) can Grimes be a more consistent quality contributor on offense [needs to shoot more; and know when he can slow down]

I look at the Grimes shot attempts like a champagne tower with the over flow from Brunson trickling to Randall, Barrett. By the time you get to Grimes and Robinson, well, their ain't much left.
One play in particular resonated with me where Barrett was in the corner and Grimes just at the top left of the 3, with Brunson dribbling at the top of the key. Barrett called switch with Grimes so he would be in the position to take the outlet pass from Brunson, which he did. Then RJ did his bulldoze past the hoop to the far side of the court and tossed up a falling fadeaway away from the basket with 3 defenders for the missed FGA (not even a Kobe assist).
Now, this for me was perhaps the least efficient play I have seen in a long time. You took the best efficiency player (Brunson) and brought the larger defender out of the corner to close any gaps that might have existed. You pulled the 2nd best efficient shooter out of the outlet pass and moved them to the corner with the smaller defender. They gave the ball to the least efficient shooter, who then took possibly the least efficient shot possible.
Long winded way of saying that RJ needs to defer to Grimes and be cognizant that his calling switches don't really help the team. He may have the green light as the 3rd option, but maybe that should be questioned based on his position as SF. That play only makes a little sense if RJ thinks he has the mismatch. But you give up that mismatch when you shoot in triple coverage.

My take is chemistry and your not incorrect. RJ has to read things better and Grimes has read also and not rush. "Confidence". RJ does not lack this but he needs to tighten his repertoire. No secrets. Grimes will be fun to watch as he finds his way.
These two plus all star Randle and soon to be Brunson not only have to figure their space out a bit better, but also RJ and Grimes!
Lets be honest, our starters did not always start well. We had games were they did finish strong, but also games with IQ and JHart there at the end also.
Knicks have depth.

Had to give up caffeine, not missing it as much as I thought I would.
Was happy to see Sims take a mid-range jumper during the game. You can practice all you want, doesnt matter if its just in practice. Hope he keeps shooting.
Many at MSG groaned when Oakley started shooting from outside, but eventually he became a reliable shooter. This lesson seems to be lost on a lot of young NBA players. Too afraid to make a mistake.
As a superior athlete he should improve. While it was just one shot it was a fluid motion attempt.

This image is irritating an OCD I didn't know I had. Who starts a set of dates in the top right and goes clockwise?

THE FUCKING DEVIL! That’s who. I hope they die a horrific death.
Also, you may be overreacting.
