Knicks · 2023-2024 NBA news and non Knick Schtick...... (page 73)

Danny Hurley Stays at UCONN. Perhaps an "East coast guy" or the lure of trying to get a 3rd chip was too great.
The NBA will be waiting for him when he is ready.
Unless his program falls apart or falls into scandal, his star will still shine. Being from New Jersey Danny is a Knick fan and maybe one day he takes over for Thibs if Johnny Byrant does not?
That Laker Gig is all good when winning but perhaps not so when the pressure is on. For Danny, who has not coached at that level to jump in and have AD and Lebron is a different gig than most.
Jay Wright being floated out there. Not sure why they want to bring in College guys? JJ Reddick does have a good image and NBA experience.

I'd like to see Sam Cassell get the gig. he has worked as assistant for a long time now.
Read Detroit might be willing to let Monty Williams go and Lakers pick him up?

I posted this in the playoff thread by mistake so I will move it here.

This guy has gotten big things right multple times when he references his sources about the Lakers and Clippers. He also said that coach would not accept the Lakers job and he was also right about that. Lets see if the Lakers go with JJ now.

If this is true its satrting to make a lot of sense why that guy knew he would not take the contract.

Leverage, in raw form.

To the winner goes the spoils of victory and all that goes with it.

The more info that comes out from this the more I believe this was a gift to Hurley to get him a better contract from UConn. That TV Reporter guy knew it from the start. He was not their number one target but lets throw him a bag anyway because he was in negotiations with UConn at the time. Now his contract with UConn is way better than it was going to be. UConn got played big time.

Edit: Like how Shams was suspicious with that fake draft movement tweet to move the gambling line this shows you can't fully trust Woj either.

RIP

Everything is falling into place exactly like the LA Reporter guy said it would.

Tatum eligible for 5 yr 315M contract extension. Celtics team salary is about to go off a cliff.

True, but not yet.
No doubt in the age of parity Brad Stevens has a challenge.
This run was basically a ten year process. Started with hiring Brad stevens and letting him grow while rebuilding. They won 25 games in year one.
Year two they win 40 games with Rookie Smart. Then 48, then they draft Brown........
Danny made some slick moves and a few blunders. The Kyrie Trade was a good idea and they really did well but obviously Kyrie was a mess and the rest is history.
Despite that, they been knocking on the door for a few years now and broke thru!
In this age its going to be hard to run it back beyond next season. Extensions done aggregate until they are in effect.
My take is they have to trade Jaylen Brown which is not a terrible idea. I said a week or so this is how Danny Gets a star to Utah, and perhaps how Boston stays contending for a while.
This team was about them, but really Holiday and White were master stokes! KP on the court was brilliant as he fit that roster so very well!
All things we already know but I really respect how they built that team. It took a long time to get that chip! Some Miscues and some really good wheeling and dealing as well. Nobody gets it right all the time. Trading down to get Tatum was genius!
Its not easy, and you need good fortune and be ready to pounce when an opportunity comes your way!

The thing is they have all the peices they need. Its going to be crazy expensive but they don't need to add anyone else. Just just need to maintain so a lot of the restrictions should not be too bad on them. Please correct me if I am wrong.

JVG to be lead assistant for Clippers under Ty Lue.
I expect this is to launch him back to a head gig at some point soon?
Those Balmer Bucks are nice too!
Curious if Bryant went to Clev if JVG would have taken a role on Thibs bench? It was reverse a long time ago.
I have no idea if they are get along or the nature of the relationship now. Not everyone stays buddies.
JVG had Thibs and Steve Clifford on his bench when he walked away.
Former Net Coach Lawrence Frank runs Clippers for Balmer.
Maybe Mark Jax should take note that taking consulting job and then as assistant is sometimes the path back to Head coach job if thats what he in fact wants.

You are correct. KP and Horford (38yo) will be their achilles heal.
