Knicks · Why did we trade Obi Toppin ? (page 7)

Eastern Conf player of the week: Julius Randle.
Don't mean nothing? It means something. "He Here".
ToddTT @ 12/4/2023 6:55 PM
If Obi wasn’t playing with some wanna-be All Star he’d be player of the week every week.

Orange and Blue Julius.

Chandler wrote:Obi played soft. All his dunks seemed to be leak outs and back cuts. Someone standing in front of him and he got awkward and soft

no tenacity on D or the boards at either end.

not a good character trait for a Thibs team especially for a PF

He seemed like a great guy though and I hope he does well, but i see why the Knicks decided to move on

I agree with this, but I'd still like to see the Knicks come up with a replacement for him.

Are we really in a deficit without him? Team seems to be doing well?
Jacob might be more of a wing than a power player. He is physically a clone of Obi.

Clones are scary

Jeez, what did Bruce Brown do to you?

Alpha1971 @ 12/5/2023 8:14 PM
Why did we trade Obi ? Because we had Isiah Robey, da..
KnickDanger @ 12/5/2023 10:26 PM
Why did we not re-sign Bobby Portis?

Resign Portis and maybe Hali instead of Obi

Bc he sat on the bench when he was here and didn’t want to play for the Knicks anymore

Just joking around - my point is as far as “regrets” go I would regret losing him more than Obi. Especially after last night.

he wanted to leave cause we didn't want him - I don't think we offered anything as far as a contract.

And can't argue with going to play the role he does there- would love to have him back.

We picked Randle over Portis. Simple.
POrtis looks great next to Giannis.

Hindsight: does anyone still believe it was a good idea to give Obi away for nothing considering how depleted we were this year, and then trading assets for Bojan who ended up injured after minimal impact and Burks who totally sucks? This is not meant to be sour grapes, but I really believe we could be using him right now. We’re so thin, we’re one more injury away from a beach vacation.

we could use just about any average NBA player right now on the bench.

Doesn't mean we should have kept a malcontent Obi.

Malcontent? Come on

martin @ 5/4/2024 5:29 PM
Thibs does not trust Obi and Obi doesn't play defense. Pass.

I was a big Obi fan - unabashedly would talk about "if only he was given a chance". He got a chance and Indy decided the same thing as Thibs. Still like Obi and will root for him after this series, but fandom makes some of us (willingly) blind.

More importantly, we dumped Obi to clear money for DiVo, yes? Does anyone still believe we'd be better with Obi instead of Donte?

I mean he blew up at Thibs so yea he wasn't happy here, we did him a favor moving him to IND.

I'm not sure Obi survives the hits DDV took from Embiid. I'll root for Obi when he's not playing us, but he kinda soft.
