Knicks · I don’t get the recent KAT chatter, if that is a thing. (page 4)

I dont think that's a good interpretation of what Bagley is stating. Could you point us to the article you are getting your info from cause I have not seen that.

Also, KAT is under contract, there is no need to draw him or attract him to Randle. If you want KAT on team, you just trade whatever for him if that makes sense for the team.

And a combo of Randle and KAT doesn't make sense to me at least.

I would think if Kat is coming Randle would be going (at least somewhere) but Randle would actually fit in Minny next to Gobert and off of Ant.

Towns/Randle combo sounds yuck and it’s really because you really can’t count on Randle to function in playoffs or defend hard all the time.

Issue with Kat to Knicks would be could he fit with Mitch? Not so sure there.

Thing I like about Kat is he is decisive with the ball - shoot or pass and skill level really high.

Things I don’t like are injuries, soft around rim and defensive effort.

Still think Julius limits any legit past 2nd round dreams we may have because he doesn’t fit smoothly with others or defend.

The frustrating thing about Randle is that he can defend, we’ve seen him do it. He can defend at an elite level for short bursts when he wants to. Eventually that light bulb is going to go on and he will make it a priority to defend.

You right. It confounds me how hopeless Randle is on D some times and then all of a sudden the lightbulb accidentally flashes ON for a few minutes and he remembers how to play defense. But only for exactly 2 minutes and then done.

Randle is always in great shape, but he works really hard on offense and his defense suffers. I think he figures with Mitch or Hartenstein behind him he can coast on that end since he’s maximizing effort on offense.

Always seems to me that it is more mental focus instead of resting on D.

On the old ESPN Knicks boards in the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a steady flow of trade threads for Chris Webber. Right up until he retired, lol. Feels the same way with KAT.

As good a player as KAT is, I believe he would have to be the third option behind another couple of stars, for the team to be a legit contender. Like Randle.

Would rather find a second option to Brunson. Might be more cost effective.

I remember those days! And Mitch Richmond, Mutombo and Terrell Brandon rumors too.

I agree with the Webber/ KAT comparison with the Knicks rumors. Very similar. I do think he could be a second option here though with Randle moving down to third option. Not sure what Minnesotas appetite is for Quickley, Barrett and picks for Towns, but I see it as a possibility next summer.

I could see them wanting IQ, but not Barret. They already have Edwards and McDaniels. The problem is salary matching when talking about the max guys. Quick is still on the books for $4M. Even if you throw in Fournier, you're still looking at about $23M. It makes things difficult if a team doesn't value RJ enough in a potential trade.

I think any deal would happen in the offseason so it would be a sign and trade with Quickley.

The KFS podcast covered this in a recent podcast with Fred Katz. IQ's salary for any trade would account for about $4M or 50% of his new contract if it's higher than his previous years salary. Sign and trades are especially tough in the new CBA and it makes hard to match salaries in a trade. I also have no idea what other deadlines are out there in terms of Fournier's team option.

I was gunshy about KAT for a long while but after more time watching - I'd do a trade of Randle and IQ and picks for KAT (if that is the deal option).

We all agree Embiid is better but would def cost more, is older and has a greater injury history/concern.

We mostly all agree that either Randle or RJ don't fit well next to each other and they are some of our best moveable assets... so breaking that pair up is ok.

I actually think we could have something by swapping Randle and KAT as they offer similar production (and defensively both inconsistent) and we could pick up gains in a few specific areas. We could play KAT next to Mitch but use KAT at the end of games when we often play 4 vs 5 offensively. KAT also seems to be a little more steady in crunch time. While Randle averaged a good amount of assists I don't think he really had good court vision much of the time... perhaps it was just handling double teams or athletic bigs? Giannis and longer PF's posed matchup challenges for Randle much of the time (due to his limited athleticism/height) and they would not as easily do this with a 7ft PF.

While our defense may be similar - it would be great to have more length/size in our frontcourt.

If we are dead set on Embiid I guess we will wait it out... but if not - who else that is attainable should we wait for? This move wouldn't stop a future DM move if that is what the front office wants.

Brunson (Deuce)
Grimes (DDV)
RJ (Hart)
KAT (Sims)
Mitch (IHart)
