Love Brunson to death but he's got to clean up those unforced turnovers! Almost cost us the game with those last two in the final minute! But great game overall bouncing back with 31 and a career high 8 threes. Knew he'd have a big game after the stinker against Boston. Another great game by RJ too! Hit some big shots in the fourth with that driving layup and pull up. And that pass to Randle in the corner for the 3. RJ's been a slow starter but that's two straight big games to start the season! Loved how Randle played as well. The shot and offense are still in preseason mode I think but he didn't force it but almost had a triple double and made two big shots in the fourth and clutch FTs.

Monster game by Rob on the glass with 13 and defensively with 4 steals and 4 blocks. Was a big reason why Young struggled. Nice game by DiVincenzo at both ends too.

Stinker of the game was Hart. Got torched by Bogdanovic all game and had some dumb turnovers and plays.

But good first win on the road! Hawks are going to be one of those teams we'll be battling for homecourt in the playoffs so these wins are important.

Good recap, dont forget Grimes. That was a head scratcher from a smart player.

As I said in the gamethread, Grimes seems to be put in a box like Obi was. Grimes hasnt shown the confidence yet in his dribble, why not let him bring up the ball? He's the starting SG, and he barely touches the ball.

Let's just trade IQ and Grimes and start DDV?

If Deuce can play backup PG well, anything is possible. Would give the FO a lot of flexibility.

Went 9 deep and we played 4 guards and Mitch I think at one stretch in the 2nd half.
LivingLegend @ 10/28/2023 2:35 AM
One of the very best (mostly under control) games I’ve seen from Julius.

Mitch was terrific!

Brunson so clean, RJ getting his, Grimes great D, Donte dishing/swishing and I-Hart with some terrific plays.

Laughed after they showed Thibs face after Brunson passed it out of bound off RJ late and Thibs looked just like probably 95% of fans with the disgust on his face.

nycericanguy @ 10/28/2023 7:12 AM
its early but RJ showing another step forward would be HUGE. he takes alot of heat but he was the 2nd best player on the court in that CLE series and has been one of the best players on the court in the 2 games we've played. that's not that common, and he's still our youngest player.
nycericanguy @ 10/28/2023 7:15 AM
randle deferred to Brunson during the playoffs, and even to RJ. And he's doing it again so far this season. He's been letting RJ, Brunson and IQ in game 1 get theirs. maybe he's taking it easy in a sense, i like it, once his shot gets going he'll score more but he's fine letting others help him for now.
nycericanguy @ 10/28/2023 7:19 AM
and brunson hitting 8 three's. damn, that was the knock on him in DAL, he wasnt really a 3pt shooter, he obviously shot the 3 great last year, but still on lower-ish volume. now he hits 8 and it doesn't even seem out of the norm. if he can up his volume a bit more this year he could be a 26-27ppg guy. and those 3's i think are easier for him than working hard in the post for a 2.

Johnson was available at pick 20 when we traded the 19th pick to Charlotte. We just never take chances on long wings. He would have looked great on our roster, a switchable forward with offense. Oh well, we passed on Herb Jones too in the second round

thats your takeaway after last night? You can go back to any draft and talk about teams passing on 2nd rounders, it's a crapshoot. but we have a legit young team 10 deep. Nothing to complain about right now. JJ wasn't going to play here and he's an awful shooter.

the big miss was not getting KP back here, but I'm not gonna sit here and scrutinize drafts from years ago. Not when we have a team full of homegrown drafted kids. I mean 4 of our top 6 players are homegrown and all except RJ drafted with later picks.

No that wasn't my main take away 😆 Others have already discussed other topics. I wanted the team to take a chance on Johnson who feel in the draft to our range. Yes, we can always second guess a draft and I have chosen to about Johnson at this time. When you do it I won't respond to you likewise. Also not getting KP is also a discussion but that was after the Celtics game. But really it isn't mutually exclusive right ? Maybe if we had Johnson we could have included him a deal for KP right. But just to remind you that was the draft we traded the pick to Charlotte for a protected 18 pick. W could have drafted Johnson at 19 and Grimes as well and Deuce. Could have drafted Herb Jones too instead. I recall that draft we traded back a few times. Trading the pick to Charlotte for a head scratcher at the time, it saved us a few dollars for the cap . Was the rationale. Still goes to show we don't gamble on versatile long wings.

Knixkik @ 10/28/2023 7:54 AM
DiVincenzo stood out last night. We don’t win without him. His shooting gravity and ability to do some other things showed last night. Gives this team a different look in place of Toppin.

the trade made sense at the time, we wanted future draft capital to use in a potential trade. CHA was an up and coming team that had just won 43 games. The pick was likely to convey later on. No one could have foreseen what would happen with Miles Bridges.

We've done an amazing job drafting overall and also targeting high character guys.

I recall the discussion of the time. Just sayin Johnson would have added to the stable of those young late drafted picks or Herbs Jones as well in the second. We always want a big and long wing and versatile forward but fail to draft one even late in the draft it seems.

Against a team with a lot of pretty big wings too. Nice

You know he broke a blood vessel or 2

Spot on. This is Randle’s best role imho. He looked great and in turn other guys were better.

Hope it’s not a mirage.

It can be successful during the regular season will it work in the playoffs against the better teams ?

Randle can average 20/10/7 on this team very efficiently if he doesn't force.

And still be a guy that can go off for 40 any given night.

depends on your definition of successful. This team can make a nice playoff run, we weren't far off from the ECF's.

but ultimately in the NBA if you don't have a top 5 player like a Curry, lebron, Jokic or Giannis, then the odds are very stacked against you for winning it all.

Gotta make his layups but I think this was the vision with DDV. Spacer, mover, cutter, makes defensive play.

Knicks have him bringing up bal ball with IQ on court. Interesting decision but maybe it gets him some touches?

He felt like a different type of pairing with IQ that Thibs had with IQ and DRose.

I don’t think it is dramatic as saying Randle is now your 3rd option, but in this game anyway, Randle clearly had a different role and it seemed to suit him and the team much better.

It was so good to see. Defenders can get into his dribble and Ju seems to lose it a ton, but last night was sooo good.

I’m still shocked at his production across the board last night, snuck up on me
