Whom I believe the Knicks traded out/off of in draft…still 19.
Over 1st 3 games avg. 18/15/4 assists/3 Blks - 80% Fg and 75% (6/8) Ft.
This one makes me sick as I really had my eye on this kid during that draft.
I forget what the actual transaction was with Detroit

Yeah, but don't forget that we pulled Trevor Keels in that same draft.

we got 3 future 1sts and cleared cap for Brunson, we did just fine.
What really surprises me that draft was we traded, our pick to OKC for some picks.
Then traded back into to the lottery to get the pick that became Duran with a combination of a first and several second rounders. How did we do that ? Then haven't been able to trade up as rumored the FO wanted to. Or why didn't trade back in to the later part of that draft to get someone like Tari Eason or to get a player this draft once the Dallas pick didn't convey ? Anyway that part both amazes me and perplexes me, we can get creative sometimes but only do so sometimes. I was impressed they did all that dealing but wonder they can't do that more often
Why don't we just sticky a regret thread.

Being a fan is a combination of regret and unrealistic optimism....both to be indulged at different times.

Can you remind me where you are getting the 3 firsts from?
What I read as final deal was Walker & rights to Duren for Detroits 2025 pick - as a stand alone deal.

Knicks drafted Dieng with their pick 11 ( I believe ) to OKC for several firsts. Then traded one of those picks and second rounders to Charlotte for their lottery pick. Knicks traded that pick Duren to Detroit with Kemba Walker and contracts for Duren. It was a lot of little moves that occured. Net we got three protected picks including the Bucks conditional pick

We wouldn’t have had minutes for him. Rose has an agents mentality. You saw it with the Obi trade, getting Obi into a good situation even if the return wasn’t great. You have to think Brock is always in his ear also as we have made a few trades where not taking salary back was a priority. Hopefully some day Rose’s good karma will come back to help the Knicks.
Let's not count those picks before they convert. I'm pulling hard for Jalen During and the Pistons as well as the Mavericks. Washington is hopefully a year away from making the 8th seed too.
Never mind for Detroit. The pick is protected through 19. Hopefully Mavericks are just good enough to make the play in.
Duran and Mark Williams both look like legit starting centers. I think the team could have cleared Kemba and made space for Brunson without trading the pick. If they were going to keep the pick and draft a center it seems unlikely to me that they also resign Mitch and they would not have had the cap for I-Hart without moving the pick. In retrospect, you could have two monster centers splitting minutes, and if Duran got too good to be a platoon Mitch is very tradable. IDK at the time I felt like if they kept the pick and went center that meant no extension for Mitch. That would have been a BIG risk. I was in favor of keeping the pick, keeping Mitch, and drafting a wing if possible. I think the FO felt getting this stockpile of future 1st was going to deliver Donovon. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out. The direction we went was positive so that's good, some alternates might have been positive as well.

I’d have to go back and check but I don’t remember Duren being a consensus pick around here. I can’t even remember if he was mentioned at all. I do remember Jalen Williams name coming up a lot.

I wasn't on this site back then but I remember a debate about if we should take a center and what that meant for Mitch. I think if we resigned Mitch fans wanted a wing if we didn't Duran and Williams were options. That wing probably would have been AJ Griffen or J-Will (they were the 2 on the board when we picked)
To be fair, we had one of the best center tandems in the league with Mitch & Hartenstein. :)
Could Mitch do the things that Duren does? Maybe. Thibs keeps him in his role. If Duren were a Knicks, would he have the opportunity to do the things he's doing now? Not sure.
But yeah, we absolutely gave up strange things in order to be able to sign Brunson.
We'll see how nice a player Duren turns out to be. If his career is better than Mitch/IHart. If he ends up in the Hall of Fame I promise to come back here and mea culpa. In the meantime that these moves created cap space for the guy most perceive as our best player...AND there are likely still a few #1 picks to come...well hell I just don't understand what some people want.
we should be happy, we need some of DET's players to pan out so we can get a nice pick from them. They've drafted alot of busts lately but Duren and Cade are looking good.
if they make the playoffs as a low seed in the next few years we can get a pick right outside the lotto from them.
Last year don't happen with Duren.
Brunson don't happen with Duren.
He turns 20 this month.
Duren might really be good in a few years. Mitch is really good now. Took a few years to develop him.
Wasn' there a moment of regret last year when Kai Jones had a good game or two.
Remember Willy Hernangomez?
Context matters.
Duren Duren.

Knicks do have Detroit second round picks for 2024 and 2025 too.

I'd say Detroit has drafted decently in recent years. Killian aside, I like Ivey, Beef Stew and Thompson. Not sure how they all fit with Case in the long run, but the Pistons are collecting a solid talent base
