Knicks · Any good backup PFs out there? (page 6)

Saw Jacob Toooin draining threes in his highlights. If he can do that then with his athletic ability bring him up.

He would be deadly on the Heat.

They have a matching contract and picks to give up for him ? Also time for the Knicks to consider blocking a team like Miami from making trades as well. We should have traded for one of KP or Jrue to keep them from Boston.

What would you have given up to have accomplished that?
Jrue is 33, hell of a player for a team with a two year window like Celitcs. Was a "Smart" deal for them.
KP is a killer with that roster. For us? Maybe not so. And again, what price?

For Jrue, Grimes, contract to match in deal, and a pick. For KP same value they gave up for KP to DC. Others have gone over the trade package for KP. Would have made us better and simultaneously kept a rival stay at our level. But whatever... Knicks have to be more aggressive in trades eventually. Can't Keep putting our faith in a major trade some time down the road. Feels like when we were waiting for the big free agent signings like Lebron, always looking for the perfect future piece while neglecting the current possibilities.

JRue would have made us a contender. ECF expectations for sure.
Grimes can be close to that with proper development some time down the road
gradyandrew @ 11/22/2023 10:12 PM
Gtimes has to pack on about 10 pounds muscle to get up to Jrue. Basketball reference has them listed at the same weight, but it doesn't pass the eye test.

HOliday makes 33MM. “COntract to match”, if you want to play pretend GM, other than Fornier, what other contracts who happen to be players do you offer. Remember, Other teams does not have infinate space either.
And, how many picks do you use? Cause and effect matters.

THe past did not work attracting players for many reasons besides money. FO turmoil and constant changes were a turn off. Cockblocking teams from improving is a good idea which is why GM’s create a bidding war for players. Increases the take. HOliday will be resigned and its still going to be a big number. He would have helped but adding a 33 player has long and short term ramifications.
NO doubt FA signings to major deals are limited by new cap rules that over time favor players resigning which result in trades. So the past knick FA starphuch fails are not as relevant.

I'd rather pretend other things...😭 Jrue whatever the specifics at this point...but if they wanted to a thire team would have been recruited. Other GMs demonstrate creativity.. going forward Let's just hope they make good moves and stop talking themselves out of potential improvements. Years ago the team paralyzed itself because they needed to have cap space for all star free agents that never came. Let's not aquire players to help us in the hope of a potential all star becoming a available for a chance at being traded for

Agree.
CBA and cap space rules are vastly different then the era you mention.
Fans want the starphuch but Im not worried about what isiah-Walsh-Grunwald did in the Dolan meddling era.
At least from Phil on to present we might not have gotten every thing right but we have not starphucked ourselves into a corner!!!

JaMychael Green still a free agent. For the vet min can't we try him and let go of Jeffries or Windler ?
Alpha1971 @ 11/25/2023 8:35 AM
Watching DDV and Grimes makes me assert we really would be better getting a combo forward and shouldn't be concerned about how that effects the nine man rotation. Why wouldn't the team better having a capable forward in the rotation at the expense of one of DDV or Grimes ? Add a forward and exploit match ups game to game. When we need four guard lineups great we have the guys. Need more size great we got that too...use our assets get somebody good

Roster building is not a video game?

Maybe not. But what does Windler, Jeffries, Ryan A offer us right now that we can't take a flier on a wing or a PF ?

Randle looks like his ankle still isnt 100 percent. Looked like he drove and dished a lot because Jules doesnt have the same burst pre-ankle injury. Might have been a good idea to rest like the coaching staff wanted.

I'd really like to see what Jacob Toppin can do to help cut down on Randle's minutes. Looks like he needs some help. If it doesnt work out, then a trade for a backup PF.

He's not ready. If it's not an alley oop, which isn't this team's strong point, he ain't scoring. He needs more seasoning.

What's Enes (Kanter?) Freedom up to these days? Remarkably, he's only age 31.

Kyle O'Quinn is out in China these days (I think) and he's only 33.

Reggie Bullock is 31. He's barely getting any time on the floor this year. I'd imagine a 2nd round pick or even cash considerations would be able to nab him?

Though if Thibs can stomach it, I think we can go with a Twin Tower lineup with Mitch and Hartenstein *IF* Randle were to go down for extended time.

So funny... I was just going to ask if that tandem had ever logged minutes together?

Jacob Toooin I watched his last game. He scored 30 and was not a ball hog. He scored in the flow of the offense and he moved the ball and constantly moves. Sort of like Obi with above the rim Athletic ability. His 3 pt shot has improved at least in the g league. Heck worth bringing him up to practice with the big club. His defense is good per Thibs.
